You neglected to mention how far superior the Onyx Mini has as a speakerphone with noise and echo canceling. Major win. No other brand in its class can come close.
Okay, a few things that are incorrect. charge 3 rolls off much earlier than 50Hz. id put it closer to 70 and almost gone by 50. Also onxy mini has 2 passive radiators. theres one behind the grill on the side with the drivers.
i called harmon kardon, they told me there is a passive bass radiator in the front of the onyx mini just like its big brother the onyx studio 3 but smaller.
Yeah I find that strange also it's nowhere documented on the box or paperwork, but it's nice knowing this info. The onyx mini is a good sounding Bluetooth speaker, your video helped me decide on buying one. I'm pleased with my purchase. Again, great honest review!
Thanks to the dolby atmos equalizer My charge 3 sounds better when playing vocal music Onyx mini was really cool, the clarity is awsome, but it can't "humming" my room with that bass radiators
Why didn't you mention that the charge 3 has terrible treble which rolls off after 10khz? And that the Onyx mini can't play loud at all? The compression kicks in after 70% of the volume and it doesn't really get any louder above that. The Onyx mini sounds better overall but only under 70%. After that the charge 3 has the upper hand because they only focused on bass with the Charge 3's tuning.
Nick Capaccio you know what I think. As we all know the quality control from Harman isn't good at all and my first unit of the Onyx was broken. Maybe I got another broken one and the other ones are fine. Otherwise great review like always. Did you work in the film business before or why are your videos so high quality? :-)
I've just bought both speakers! I thought I'd use the Harman Kardon at the house and take the JBL Charge 3 to school and use it in my class. I've tried the Harman Kardon, and it sounds great! I'm going to try the Charge 3. I have a question, I've read about passive radiators in the comments, but I don't really know what that means. English is not my native language. 🙄

Thanks! I would definitely reommend the JBL Charge 3, especially if you plan to take it outdoors. Sounds very good and has really nice low end for the music you listen too. You should be able to find it on sale as well this close to Chrostmas.
Hi Nick, great review as always. but I have been comparing so many I'm at info overload... I don't need a portable, waterproof, party-proof speaker. for in the home, bedroom but would be good if also could play loud. what would you recommend? Ideally would like an auxiliary cable. Don't need long battery life, just solid construction and great sound - both treble bass midrange etc.. esp EDM tracks. THANKS!!! someone, anyone.. (no trollees) fanks =)
Onyx mini no doubt. If u can find one under $50 non refurbished that is. Love mine and sounds much better overall than the charge 3&4. However those last two can go anywhere..
When listening through ur microphone the onyx sounds flat in a bad way and not as full. Is that also the case in real life or only on the recording we are listening
Hi, could u plz try connect charge 3 to harman kardon onyx , maybe jbl connect+ feature can connect with harman kardon dual connect?! Harman kardon onyx 4 can doo that but i dont know about oldes version.
Lawrenz Nelson you are basically fighting the speaker. Thats not what u should do slightly touching it to feel it working should be fine but dont press hard otherwise u might blow up the speaker
Thanks Nick. I am going to receive this speaker very soon, but I was wondering that can I connect the speaker with my lap to play streaming music? If not, is there anyway I can do such as bluetooth receiver???
If your laptop has bluetooth built in, you can connect it that way, or you can buy a very inexpensive USB Bluetooth adapter for around $10 on Amazon. If you don't want to go that route, you can still plug the speaker in with an audio cable.
