Compressor Pedals are a confusing subject. In this video i'll give a simple analogy as to how compressor pedals work, some comparison examples of how they sound on and off, and recommend a bunch of compressor pedals you could get.

Yes, I need a compressor pedal, but the pedal stores won't just give it to me. They require me to hand them paper with old dudes in them.

Great and informative video dude. If you could provide examples of the settings you use on your compressor pedal, that would be "very fantastic". I realise each pedal reacts differently with different guitars and amps ,but I think was really impressed with you tone and some 'ball park' advice would be greatly received in order to up my compression game.
@LetsTalkAboutMathRock

Thanks! I had everything pretty much at 12 o'clock apart from the Attack control which I had set quite high to minimize the initial note transients (how quick it compresses basically). Use your ears, start by dialing everything too high and reduce till you find that sweet spot that works for you.
@binface9
@binface9 5 лет назад
Cool. How much gain reduction to you tend to see from the onboard meter? Are those settings similar to how you'd run the CS-3 in the past?

Nick and Juan from Pedals and Effects made videos about compression and it was pretty great for me who cared functional things about compression rather than theoretical or super minute tonal aspect of things....

I just reorganized my pedals and put my compressor after my drive and it's also my always on pedal now along with my light overdrive. It just makes everything so much more well rounded.

@erpringle
@erpringle 5 лет назад
@@kyleritchie50 should be before all od and dirt pedals as it will intensify any noise. Look it up, most everyone puts it near the front except for wahs and fuzz although I run mine before fuzz. Wah first always. Just a little helpful hint. I run wah,tuner,comp,univibe, fuzz,od,chorus,delay, reverb. I also put an EQ usually in the middle somewhere if I use one. Usually best to experiment but I figured I would save you a little time.
@kyleritchie50
@kyleritchie50 5 лет назад
@@erpringle I put it after drive so I can maintain my picking dynamics when drive is engaged. Listen to how your drives react to hard/soft picking with your compression on and off. It's a huge difference when you put it after the drive.

Should I get this Boss CP1X or is there another I should get? I’m pretty ignorant when it comes to equipment in general so I tend to stick with one brand. My delay is the Boss DD7 so I was thinking of getting another Boss product.

Mooer Yellow Comp is my fav super affordable compressor. I think it’s also worth noting the different result you’ll get from placing your compressor at different places in the chain. Before drives and amp=evened out playing dynamics. Sounds like your picking is more consistent. In the effects loop=evened out overall volume.

If you want the best and your music means a lot to you go for the origin effects cali 76 stacked edition. The best compressor made. Yep, you can get cheaper compressors but you get what you pay for and I beg to differ but most pros go with the cali 76, even in the studio that is usually what you will see. Boss is okay if you can't afford the best but my next choice would be the suhr koji comp for $200. The cali 76 is a little expensive at over $300 but like I said, you get what you pay for. That is MHO.

It’s good if you’re talking about the compressor plus. It gives you a switch option for a single coil/humbucker & a blend option which is good as well. It’s really good I returned my Boss CS-2 for that pedal I recommend it.

@kyleritchie50
@kyleritchie50 5 лет назад
Depends on what you want out of it. If you turn the compression way up you lose a lot of dynamics and get a much more percussive sound (think funk or country). Dial it back and it will increase sustain and level out your volumes.
