I think the Behringer sounds awesome, slightly fatter tone and a hint more distortion over the Boss DS-2🎸🤘 was VERY close I'm really impressed with the UD300 😎🎸

I would assume both contain the exact same circuit and differences in sound are due to component spread. This implies another Boss pedal would also sound a little different. In the end, I very much doubt these differences would be audible once the EQ is set and the guitar is joined by drums and bass. Buying the Boss helps finance their development and marketing teams who work to make other products like the Katana.

Yes the difference is minimal just goes to show the Behringer is a very good clone for those on a budget. In terms of not spending money with boss I usually buy from the used market so makes no difference 🤔

Could immediately tell the Boss. Just sounds... More refined, which is weird to say about a distortion pedal. If rather pay the few extra bucks and get metal pedal that will last forever and be able to sell if needed be.

I’ve got 3 Behringers. The plastic casing is fine for regular gigging around town. Sure Keith Richards or Edward Van Halen would want something more solid for a world tour but for us regular dudes it’s more than solid. I have their TO800 and it’s my favorite tube screamer pedal I’ve personally used.

I have the Behringer UM300 Ultra Metal pedal. It's been very reliable for what I've needed it for. The shaping of the mids is a great thing to have!

I have an acoustic guitar and that stuff and well, I learned a lot if nirvana songs and the funny thing is that I don't know how the chords name but I still use them to play, I enjoy your videos because they're nice!, Good video bro, keep doing them

The sound is very subtle between the two to my ear. I use the DS2 often, and they are a beast of a pedal. The Behringer sounded pretty good too. Had a bit of a heavier tone to it. My only dislike is the plastic casing. I have heavy feet and tend to wear boots a lot, so a plastic case makes me thing I'm going to shatter it when I hit the toggle switch. But, as you say, the price difference for essentially the same sound quality as a DS2...can't complain much!

Behringer sounded beefier. The crappier casing doesn’t really bother me because I’ll just leave them on the pedal board anyways.

I love the tone of the DS 2 compared to other "boutique" distortion pedals. Over the years I've sampled a few, I did persevere with a JHS Kilt for a couple years & that was "ok" but came back to the DS 2. When I plugged it in it was like "What the hell! This is great"

Great review Rob, I have a couple of dearer pedals but the majority of my pedals are budget ones but I really like them, I tried several made by mooer and been pretty impressed by the money and the mini pedal size means you can get more on your board, i got a couple of kmise which are also not bad, especially for less than £15 each, the world is oit oyster it seems 😃, keep up the good work Rob 🤟

I liked the Behringer, had pedal a pegged as my favourite, more due to the tone, I thought B was a touch darker, both great though!

i prefer the Behringer, it sounded fatter, can’t believe it lol. Rob, i’ve got a DS1, with the Turbo Distortion switch off is there still a difference in sound between the DS1 & DS2.

Since you’re my go to Nirvana Tone guy have you done a comparison of the DS-1 and DS-2 in regards to that Nirvana tone? I know Kurt switch during his career, do you know about what year he did?

Kurt switched to a DS-2 during the nevermind live era, either in 91 or 92, and used the DS-2 to record in utero. The live tone in the in utero era was always either a DS-2 or a sansamp Classic.

is there a difference between the ud300 and the ud100? im wondering if its the same pedal, just under a new name. i could only find one ud300 selling on ebay for $70

I think they're the same, Behringer changed the names of various pedals quite a lot.

@@theguitarmanifesto Man, I know! I'm like you, I just went down the Behringer pedal rabbit hole just in the last two months. I've bought 7 in the last six weeks. I've got a couple more on my radar that I'd like to get new, then just watch for older discontinued models if they ever pop up used. I think they're very durable and made well. They may be plastic but it's a solid heavy plastic that almost feels like metal. Have fun with your pedal addiction. 😂🤣😂

I've heard good things about Behringer pedals despite the cheap plastic case. My buddy has the clone of the Boss Heavy Metal distortion pedal and it's pretty damn close to the original. I might have to buy one in the future since they're dirt cheap. I think they go for about 45-50 CAD?

Either 1 sound good to me. 1st distortion style pedal I got was the behringer blues overdrive (also discontinued), latest is a used boss ds1. The DS2 at 60 quid is a good find though. where I live they run $145 at least new price.

@@theguitarmanifesto Luckily I have been able to find a few used. The DS1 I mentioned I did get $30 used in a store during the boxing week sales though that 1 is usually a bit less new than the others.

If you want a good distortion for cheap buy the UD-300 but if you want a pedal that will last forever buy a DS-2.

Great review, both sounded the same to me. I never got on with the DS-2 . Yourself and others seem to get great tones from them ,but I sounded worse than usual when I stood on it 😂👍

@@theguitarmanifesto I'm pretty much set in my ways . TS9 or Soul Food depending on the guitar for overdrive and a Williams Mk I fuzz . On the rare occasions I get to really crank my amps , I don't use any pedals . I'm so old School ..my school was demolished before yours was built lol 😂😂😂

The Boss sounded tighter and more amp-like. Behringer had more of the undesired fizzzzz sound I try to avoid. Neither pedal impressed me. I’ve owned the Boss. $60 DS-1 sounds marginally better. Turbo mode did nothing for me

I hear no difference worth talking about. No noise on the cheap one either. The only reason I could think of to buy the Boss is if the Behringer casing falls apart after 6 months but I doubt it would be the case.

@@theguitarmanifesto He believes the Ultra Distortion is a clone of the Metal Zone, so it can't be compared to a DS-2. He is incorrect however, since it is the Ultra Metal that is the clone of the Metal Zone. The Ultra Distortion is absolutely a clone of the DS-2.

i hate sound of both to be honest, but if i wanted to get best deal if it comes to getting what you paid for i would get behringer but if price would not matter i would get boss.

I have that behringer since 2009 and in 2021 started to make some noises, last week the footswitch started to fail, boy is going down after more than 10 years of regular use. I think for its price, it's an awesome pedal, a shame they don't make it anymore

Neither is the Boss pedal it's being compared to though. Both are buffered bypass. There's true bypass loopers for this specific purpose. In the old days you had to bust out the drill haha
