One of the many features of the Boss ES-8 is the ability to use expression control. Not only can you control a pedal with an expression input but you can control multiple pedals simulatneously and even control pedals that don't have an expression input.

Thanks for your es-8 classes. I use an es-5 to control my Memory Man TT using the Tap Tempo input and now I think i'll set values for the feedback with pre-assigned values going into the expression control. This will basically give an old analog pedal presets.

Was just tweaking up my assigns to get more functionality in my board. I suppose a benefit of using the TRS to control the expression instead of MIDI is that you can save assigns (I am using all of them on a few patches :P). Maybe worth looking into? No idea. Not sure if I want to go and re-wire the board again... lol!

Hi Man Bun, thank you for all of your tutorials on the ES-8. Is there a way to increase the number of CC# and its parameters that I could control in a single patch? By default I believe there is Ctl1 and Ctl2 but I feel like it's possible to do more...any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Sir, I’m running a midi controllable board with an ES-8 and the following Strymon pedals: Compadre, TimeLine, Mobius, Sunset and Iridium. I’ve been controlling the TimeLine and Mobius via midi for some time and want add the rest, but don’t understand how. I have a 5-pin to 1/4” coming from the Mobius which can feed any of the others, but how does the midi chain get to the next two? Thx!

Is it possible to remote control a whammy? Both the manual of the whammy and boss es8 are of no use and i can't seem to find a simple solution to use an external expression pedal for the whammy

You can do that with Assigns. Check out this video ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-jFiOzIm7zOk.html. Just set the target to "BPM: Tap".

Hi! I want to start by saying that all your videos on the ES-8 have been really helpful for me, so thank you! I recently started using the ES-8 Editor but I am running into an issue. Can you tell me how you have the MIDI from your pedals connected to the ES-8 while at the same time having the ES-8 editor connected to your MIDI interface which is connected to your computer? I am using a U6MIDIPRO and I haven't been able to figure out how they can both be connected at the same time. Thanks!

I actually found that this issue is my Hologram Microcosm Pedal, I was able to get a complete connection using both my positive grid bias distortion and my eventide space, but when it comes to the microcosm it still isn't working. I have even changed the settings in the microcosm to allow for midi thru and still no change. Appreciate any info anyone might have. Thanks!

Does it work the same on the Boss ES-5 ? This would be great to control both my H9 and TC G-Major with my Mission expression pedal.

I have not used the ES-5 but it doesn't look like it has expression outputs, but it does have an expression input, so you should be able to use expression to control the pedals via MIDI.

Great video- I’m about to pull the trigger on one of these and I’m still not 100% clear on if it can do what I’m wanting. So I have 3 analog pedals that all have expression inputs- can I have 1 expression pedal connected to the es8- and control all three? I’m not looking to control all three at once. Only to have them all connected to the es8 and control one for each song? Can that be done?

If they're all analog I don't think so. You can only connect 2 pedals to the ES-8

Can you walk me through if this is a better buy than the source audio reflex? It looks like it can do almost all the same things but the boss actually has an editor to make menu diving not needed

If you need just a controller for your expression pedal, the reflex would probably be the way to go. The ES-8 might be overkill, unless you need it for all it's other great features.
