I could be a minority of one here, but at this point a lot of these models are close enough that it really comes down to the UI which is one of the things that make the 201 such a great unit. You want to twist those knobs in real time. This seems to have a great UI, but I wish the foot switch was a separate component as I'd want to use this either with guitar sitting on top of an amp where I can turn the knobs easily, or with my synths with it sitting on a stand, or desk.

@@sammaddison2085 Good idea, but they never feel as smooth to me as turning the knobs on a unit and I've got an RV-500 which has a great space echo algorithm so I'd just use that if was going to do the MIDI thing.

You could have the unit up on something and control the switches via midi. I’m assuming that’s a feature of the pedal, most midi pedals from the past 10 years you can do that.

You CAN use it with a separate footswitch. Two, in fact. It has a CTL 1/2 input for switches. Or it can be used with an expression pedal

Nice. I have the old version from maybe 10 years ago. You can use the ramp feature with the volume down and then swell to create some cool textures to loop or play over. It also used to be ‘a thing’ to use the reverb sound without delay too... but with so many reverbs around these days might not be as cool :)

I like the way the modulation sounds in this but I think the Volante's killer feature is being able to pan individual heads, it makes it sound massive in stereo. This feels like its maybe missing a bit of that width. Looks great and I love the warp and twist stuff.

really hoping that BOSS is able to address the stereo panning in a future firmware update - seems like a missed opportunity considering that the pedal has stereo ins and outs

After watching many people supposedly reveiwing the DM-100 & RE-202 on RU-vid, I decided to order one of each to try with my rig. It took me ten minutes on each of them to find out they wouldn't do job for me as well as the Strymon Volante does. Why ? because there's no editing on the head spacings and individual head levels, which to me matters a lot. I sent them back. If people would actually play something recognisable to get a better idea, instead of creaming over useless features such as oscillation, it would be of more use.

Maybe read a manual or look at the product description on the website instead of depending on demos for all your information? Editing of head spacing and levels is a very specific feature you wouldn't assume a given pedal had, considering the Volante is the only thing off the top of my head that does it.

Btw, not sure if you saw the new Victory amp... in a box format released today. Wonder if it will take you away from your modelers... sounded decent on Andertons...

I'm kinda debating if I should get this RE-202 or the compact RE-2.. also if I get this, is it still neccessary to have a separate delay pedal such as DM-2W or the Space Echo is good enough?

I gave them both a try. The 202 is way better than the 2. Do you really need more delay on your board. I have this one and five more.

Hey mate this is a great review! I own this pedal except for some reason I can’t access configurations number three the memory lights are just blacked out. Is this because I need a firmware update do you know?

ANYONE using this pedal with MIDI?? I just bought the Fender Switchboard switcher and ALL I WANT is to be able to change presets on the RE202 with the switcher but can't figure it out 😅 midi noob here PLS HELP!?

Is there any way to get these tones or something similar in the POD GO? I know that the Cosmos echo is in the Helix and HX stomp but not in the POD GO.

Cosmos echo isn't there but in the legacy section - Multi Head is based on a Space Echo from the M series effects?

Why would one buy this over say, using the space echos in the Helix?

Having tangible knobs to tweak on the fly is great. Also, this pedal can switch between Line level and instrument level, so it can be a great studio tool as well, for running vocals through. Unless there are deep shoot outs between this Re-202 and the Helix equivalent delays out there, I’d lean towards this being more true to the original Roland unit

Don't worry this guy just hates delay pedals but feels the need to complain on every delay demo for some reason
