Im 70 now but when this song came out in 1976 I was into skydiving and this song will always remind me of those glorious days of jumping out of airplanes when I had my whole life in front of me. I was a lucky man and it was more than a feeling.
Well, Jelly, I'm an old white dude from the Northwest, 77 years old, wrinkled and wobbly...but I still sort'a rock with this monster of a song. No matter if I fall down. What's a bruise or two?
Actually, they named a small Lincolnshire town after them first. Then when they got really big they decided to upgrade to a city and relocate to the US. History.
That last ‘she slipped awayyyy’ with the wailing guitar in the background is one of those indescribable moments, like a lightning bolt to my entire soul.
My youngest brother passed away at 13 almost a decade ago and this was his favorite song. It’s taken this long to listen to it without breaking down into tears. I’m still tearing up, even writing this, but I’m not wailing. Love you brother ❤️
I regret that you lost your loved one and I hope and pray that you will find comfort and care in your Creator and [Gracious Great] God who is able to see you through this threshold called life.
One of the greatest songs every made. I always tell people, if you are ever feeling down, play this song (studio version) really, really LOUD. I guarantee you will feel better by the time the song ends.
And it was before "auto-tune". I played this song for my niece and nephew who are used to listening to today's "artists" who make extensive use of "auto-tune" and they couldn't believe what they were hearing and when it came from.
Brad Delp was one of the greatest voices in the history of rock, and Tom Scholz is a musical genius as a songwriter and musician, yet Boston is not in the hall of fame. Inexcusible.
1976.... graduated from high school, bought my first car and this is the first album I played in my 8-track... I blew two sets of 6x9 Jensen speakers in the that car playing Boston at full volume to hear it over the sounds of my dual Thrush exhaust on my Ford Torino! What a great time to grow up to real music like Boston. Takes me back every time I hear it!
Class of 77 here. Saw them live at that time in Santa Barbara. Cranked them all the time cruising in my 71 Dodge Charger Super Bee with an amplifier/graphic equalizer under the dash...
God, we really had it all didn't we? Boston, Blue Oyster Cult, Journey, Jimmy Page, Peter Townsend, My boyfriend had a heavily modified Dodge muscle car! It's no wonder milennials hate us.....just saying 😀
I'm 59 years old. This was the first album I ever bought (and still have). I bet I have listened to this song at least a thousand times in my life. It never gets old. This is truly one of the greatest songs to ever be recorded or play on the radio.
This is Boston’s greatest song ever written. This is coming from a 28 year old. Peace Of Mind is their second greatest. My favorites are More Than A Feeling, Peace Of Mind, Don’t Look Back, Smokin’, Amanda, Rock N Roll Band, Foreplay/Long Time and A Man I’ll Never Be.
Lyrics now!: I looked out this morning and the sun was gone Turned on some music to start my day I lost myself in a familiar song I closed my eyes and I slipped away It's more than a feeling (More than a feeling) When I hear that old song they used to play (More than a feeling) I begin dreaming (More than a feeling) 'Til I see Marianne walk away I see my Marianne walkin' away So many people have come and gone Their faces fade as the years go by Yet I still recall as I wander on As clear as the sun in the summer sky It's more than a feeling (More than a feeling) When I hear that old song they used to play (More than a feeling) I begin dreaming (More than a feeling) 'Til I see Marianne walk away I see my Marianne walkin' away When I'm tired and thinking cold I hide in my music, forget the day And dream of a girl I used to know I closed my eyes and she slipped away She slipped away It's more than a feeling (More than a feeling) When I hear that old song they used to play (More than a feeling) I begin dreaming (More than a feeling) 'Til I see Marianne walk away
Brad Delp's vocals were absolutely unbelievable and just mesmerizing to me. I'm always in "Aw & Wonder" over his ability to hit that high octave sound...just out-of-this-world awesomeness!!! #RIPBradDelp you are terribly missed and greatly & fondly thought of always ♥
I remember when this song first come out I got the 45 and I played it all morning one time after another as full blast as I could on my little portable 45 record player I didn't have much money growing up and that's the only thing my mother could afford to get me for my 16th birthday. I'm 71 now and it brings back so many memories So many loves So many loves lost and as well most of my family is dead but this is an inspirational piece of music and it always brings good feelings back in these tough times semper Fi to all.
All the kids listen to nowadays is auto tune emo kids rapping about how they fuck their gf and think they're a thug. And people play it through their earbuds at full blast.
@Toxic Boy man, if you actually took your time to look for good music and consider there's a shitton of shitty older music that you've never heard because it was shit, the amount of good music being produced really hasn't changed.
These guys were great writers, musicians and recording engineers. If I'm not mistake they made this record in their basement. Incredible to this day. Timeless.
I was 16 in 1976. The lyric, "So many people have come and gone. Their faces fade as the years go by" is oh so true. As is the theme of this song about a girl I used to know. Many of us are happily married nearly 40 years, but we still had our Marianne.
I’ll be 28 this year. Those lyrics remind me of my long, lost friend Stephanie. We met back in elementary school, 5th grade I believe. Haven’t heard from her since. I hate myself for not asking her if she liked me more than a friend. I guess you can say she was my Marianne. If we ever meet again I’ll be shocked if she remembers me. I’ll always love you Stephanie.
This song was one of my Dad's favorites he passed away almost 5 yrs ago in September...he'd be turning 62 this year 😢 💔 😔 😪 when I want to feel closer to him I crank this all the way up!!
me and my dad used to have nights were all hed do is play me songs and this was one of then he suddenly passed away from pancreatic cancer this one and many more like it are how i feel close to him
I'm a disabled Vietnam Vet and was at Ohio University when they gave a concert in Athens, Ohio. The band was three hours late yet everyone stay and waited. What a riot!
I’m a black girl from New Mexico. Born in the 60’s. I grew up listening to the best music. I introduced this song to a guy with gold teeth. A former gang member. Man, when I tell you when I tell you it was one of my best moments. It’s one of his favorites to this day.
I’m a black girl from NY. Me and brother always loved the hardcore soul and funk of the 70s that our father played on the weekends but we loved music so much that we wanted to hear it on weekdays too when he was at work but we knew better than to mess with his records 😂 so we resorted to the radio and the one station that played the hits. Needless to say we’re STILL the only black kids (adults now) that know all of the 70s rock songs and soul and funk lol
@@ceeceetracey9839 How did I miss this comment!!! You know what’s up, sis!! I really caught the feeling and visual with every word you wrote!!! We are truly lucky to have something pure to go back to because I’m not sure what this thing is they call “music” these days. Much love to my fellow rocker girl!❤️❤️❤️❤️
70 here as well. Just got out of the Navy and found a CA girl. Life was fun and this song tied it all together. My favorite tune of ALL time … and I’ve listened to more songs than I can count. Thank you Boston. And thank you, Brad. You defined the song track of my life, when life was good.
Thank You for your service, Sir!! Boston is my favorite rock band (when Brad was with them) followed by Aerosmith and Bad Company. I hope life is still being good to you. Many prayers and blessings always!!!!
Loved this song when it was released 47 (!!!) years ago and it still gives me goosebumps every time I hear it. Between Brad Delp's electrifing vocals and Tom Scholz's equally amazing guitar work (he played ALL of the guitar and bass parts on the final recorded version), this song rightly remains a gem in the rock canon.
Born in 1973, my brother was 8 years older than me. I remember at 7-8 years old sneaking into his "stay out" room and finding two records, one was Queen and the other Boston. I had my own record player and besides Disco Duck ----- my new love was Boston. Edit: yes, he figured out that I was taking his records and it cost me a beating but it was worth it
criminally underrated. actually CIVILLY underrated. Boston had some sort of disagreement->lawsuit with their record company. cbs basically froze Boston out of the media industrial complex as a result. that's why they don't have the recognition they otherwise deserve.
I am 55 and my brother who died last year would have been 64. I remember when I was 10, sneaking into his room when he was gone and listening to bands like Boston and ELO and Jethro Tull and many more on that old Panasonic record player. Sneaking a listen to all the scratching and popping of that old music was like stealing gold back then. This song brings back not just those memories but memories of my brother and I. Miss you big brother! ♥️♥️♥️♥️
My wife is roughly the same age as yourself, she also has pretty much the exact same story. The ages are slightly different as are the songs..but the memory is the same as we lost my brother-in-law around this same time last year. Take care and thankyou for the comment.
I'm 21 now, but always will remember the gold days when I was a kid playing this at guitar hero ❤️, Respect for who has living in this golden times! 💪❤️
1976 i turned 18. Already playing in a local band .No one will ever surpass Boston. They made music that cannot be copied or cloned. My dad who was a musician and my inspiration loved Boston and the band Kansas. He passed away back in 1998. at the age of 75.
To this day I can still remember back in 1976, as a Freshman in High School, spending one day at my cousins house watching this record spinning round on his turntable and listening to this brand new album. We were in awe of how beautiful and great these songs were. This year, 2022, I'm about to turn 60 and I'm still amazed.
Yes, I remember how beautiful this song sounded coming out of my cheep/crappy speakers, the year was 1976 and I was 16 years old, just turned 62 still love this band
I’m 38 I’m happy for you , my dad would play this when I was as a kid, now he’s not here all I have is this , I hope he enjoyed this as much as you did.
Just can't beat the way this song transitions from verse to chorus. It is incredibly satisfying... I remember the chorus hooked me instantly the first time I heard it. It perfectly encapsulates the emotional meaning behind the song too. During the chorus is when you are taken back to those good old days, reliving them all over again, and its a great time. Until it fades again. I feel this back and forth as the song makes transitions throughout. Beautiful song.

This is before my time as well. I was born in 1994. This is the kind of music my family listened to when I was growing up. Therefore, it became my favorite. Boston is my all time favorite rock band. In my opinion a More Than A Feeling is their greatest song ever. Peace of Mind comes in at a close second, then Don’t Look Back.
I'm not 60 but the feeling of the song changing definitely resonates with me. It's so funny I used to not like this song about a decade ago, now I keep coming back to it.
Was? You mean is. I could listen to this masterpiece of a song for hours and not get tired of it. Everything about it is outstanding. My favorite parts are the intro and the second verse. I always have to listen to the intro a few times before listening to the whole song.
I was a senior in high school when the album hit the charts. Being from Boston, these guys blew me away like no other group. Brad Delp had one of the most incredible vocals in rock history. Still can’t fathom why he checked out. Gifted vocals. Brad Delp is so missed in the rock world.
Boston was the first rock concert I ever went to. It was in 1977 and I sat in the lodge at the old Boston Garden. Being a 16 year old kid, I was mesmerized and they became my favorite band.
@@stanleyarnstrong3871 John Lennon said the best rock music is “primitive.” John said the genre should avoid “intellectualism” but progressive rock such as Sergeant Pepper was about making rock music more complex. Songs like Satisfaction by the Stones are unintellectual= simple
I experienced Boston when started the beginning of the rest of my life dreams. Now a senior citizen I realize I lived out my dreams I had for myself when listened to Boston with my friends. Thank you Boston.
This is the greatest, most complete, and perfect song ever! Please don't comment. If you're listening to the song, you know it's GREAT! Don't comment, just listen and feel amazing! The last verse is the greatest in rock history! It has everything-great lyrics, great guitar, and that "I can't get it loud enough" factor.
