You deserve more views. More praise. More love. Great job guys. So much positivity even in talking about overrated authors. Love your channel. Please keep coming up with such interesting discussions for your fans !
Backman ❤️. He sounds much better in Swedish though 😊. And yes public is not scared of police in Sweden. Police here don’t have the same rights as in India, and Sweden places the highest importance on human rights. You should see the prisons in the Nordics! Also, I felt the police investigation and the apartment viewing in Anxious people were spot on. Hope the future Backman’s books change your mind 🙈. Great episode as always guys!
Murakami and Paulo Coelho do deserve to be in this list. The only book I’ve loved by Murakami was The Norwegian Wood. Baaki Kaafka on the shore to kya hi tha 😂🤣 I so agree with Anuya, abstract art😂🤣🤣 Also Smriti’s point on Murakami’s writing of women, I agree with. I’ve read two of his books and I felt that💯
Having said that, I do agree with Sharon’s point on Murakami writing about loneliness and all. And I’ll give him a chance by reading Sputnik Sweetheart
Can we please have Kanan Gill over? As a voracious reader and having himself written a book, he seems to be like a human encyclopaedia who would have a lot of interesting insights to offer. Fun fact: most of the guest appearances/podcasts that he has done on other people's channels have garnered the maximum views out of all the episodes present. The Menu please episode on Netflix India, His appearance twice on Kenny's podcast, the one with Surbhi Bagga...
I started watching this video with a light heart and enjoyed it until I found some of my favorite authors in the list :-P! But that's the beauty of open and honest exchange of thoughts. It shows us how diverse our choices are and how we have so many similarities and differences with each other. Just wanted to point out one thing, expecting that you'd love every book of an author because you liked one or a few, is probably an absurd and unrealistic expectation. It's like watching a movie or tv show of a male or female actor, or a director and loving it, and expecting that all their other work to blow your mind in the same way. It never happens with books, movies, tv shows, music, sports, or anything else. So you shouldn't start calling them overrated based on that. Do I think every book Paulo Coelho wrote was a masterpiece? Absolutely not! But did I love some of those? Yes! Same goes with Murakami, Dan Brown, Garcia Marquez, or anyone else. But they truly lost me when they said "Normal People" was overrated! Neither the book or the tv show was overrated. I loved it so much. Again, proves how different each of us are and how varied our tastes are! I guess there is no right or wrong answer to this. "Overrated" is perhaps a very subjective choice!
I don’t know if other readers do this - but if I really really like a book or an author- I prefer not to read their other works. Case in point - The Palace of Illusions.Thumbs up Smriti.
Guys can u pls get biswa, kanan or any comedians u can? I keep rewatching your old botcasts and they are so so so good. Pls guys. I need some more books content. Can you try to be slightly more active? Bcz i remember 2017. What a year it was for me. I used come back home half day through clg , just to watch your videos after the upload. You guys were a big part of my growth during clg. Now that my clg is over I misss what I had. Pls do more botcasts with people we adore.
I got mildly offended after hearing Backman’s name here 😂🤣 Like I kinda get your point when you say manipulative but A Man Called Ove worked wonders for me, it felt like I had just finished watching the movie Up.
maybe i am really young to understand shit but the thing is that mark manson book subtle art of not giving fuck is a good book, if you read it before a crucial year of your life, when you have to decide between plethora of options and there were two great take aways everything else was common and you can find in other book 1) do not chose the end but struggle that come along (like i want to be teacher, can i make do with the less pay, can i explain same thing again and again, can i refrain from frowning upon someone stupidity) and 2)there are two kind of entitlement-the giver and the receiver.
It was really difficult for me not to outrage on all the Frederick Backman Hate.I love his books and couldn't bear u guys shitting on them. But then again that's why like this channel.Honest opinions always..
@@prashantsurti5788 Office first season is horrible but after that (till the point *a certain someone* leaves) is gold. After *a certain someone leaves*, just skip to the finale.
Anuya, I absolutely agree with your opinion on Murakami. Please don’t read his short stories, just don’t. I read Men Without Woman, and oh my God(puke, puke, puke) The way he talks about woman, ughhhhhhhhhh.
100% agree about bookstagram promoting free books. it's annoying as fuck. But I will not stand for the Gaiman slander 😭 and my high school English teacher won't for Ruskin Bond 😂 I also just got Project Hail Mary xDDD will get on it once i'm done with exams. Duma Key was my first ever Stephen King book and I didn't read another for like 5-6 years lol. One friend described Paulo Coelho to me in school as "this man goes and talks to snakes then to sand then something something." 😂
A man called Ove might not be an amazing book but it was very well written and the hype was justified imo. But yes, Backman is definitely overrated! Paulo Coelho deserves to be on the list for sure... The Alchemist was just a desperate attempt to sound intelligent.
So I am a complete fantasy reader. Non fic mai I just sleep off. I Really Really LOVED the king Killer books. So kinda hurt when they dissed Patrick Rothfuss. But I agree with Pablo and all. It is shit. Also Brandon Sanderson is good not amazing but he's goodddd.
I agree with Sally Rooney. I've read only Normal People and it's so pretentious. The book takes itself too seriously and feels like it's "deep" but it's just boring trash.
People think Gabo and Murakami are over-rated? And, Black Leopard Red Wolf is over-rated? Wow. People wanting resolution in books would go mad after reading Krasznahorkai. My favorite book, Soul Mountain, has really no story. What happens at Brothers Karamazov in the end? Ilyusha dies. Big deal. Salam thok, Chal rasta naap. I sincerely suggest you guys read more non-english literature. Peace out and apologies for snobbery (if any).
Black Leopard Red Wolf was just too much for me tbh. And Murakami, as I said, I read only one book and didn't gel with the writing. It's all good though. As for reading non-english literature, I can assure you that we all do. :) No snobbery though. Appreciate your thoughts! :D
Amish Tripathi??? I mean I will give him credit for rejuvenating interest in Indian mythology but I found his books really predictable. Aisa laga ki 80's ka bollywood movie dekh raha hu.
Hahaha 🤭 I don't think she's bad! I just think her books have dipped for me a bit - from Palace of Illusions to Forest of Enchantments to The Last Queen. Will still read her. There's no question.
Robert Jordan and Brandon Sanderson shouldn't write?! 😂. You mean 2 of the greatest fantasy writers who redefined the entire genre shouldn't write? I think Vivek should actually try READING their books instead of seeing the page count and running away.
Sree, I have read their books and definitely still feel they are overrated af. Just not my thing. But let's agree to disagree? If page count would've scared me, maybe I wouldn't have read the classics then, and enjoyed them.
@@vivekian1 Glad to know you have actually read them, cuz since u said they are all 1000+ pages long and what's the point, I assumed you left it somewhere in the middle. Yeah let's agree to disagree. Cheers👍
@@sree.8556 Vivek reads everything... he never discusses something he hasn't read. Have you *met* the man? He's already finished like 200 books this year. Mad fellow he is.
