I don't care WHAT they tell you about Boudicca in school! My grandma told me she BLACK 👸🏿 (fr though the BBC is currently pushing that native Britons were black, look it up.)
Yr crazy the elite are pushing this every famous person in history was actually black trope to keep us infighting and divided and as a distraction she was European so naturally that means whiteish
I’m assuming you’re referencing cheddar man, a 10000 year old corpse who’s genome has been analysed and assessed that it was likely his skin was darker than the modern Briton, because his people hadn’t been in Northern Europe for long enough at that time to have developed lighter skin. Which is just a logical conclusion to make, it doesn’t stop him having been our ancestor, why does it bother you to think that we descended from people with dark skin?
@@allthebanter9316 I was referencing the Horrible Histories 'Been here for the start' song that tries to suggest that people of Sub-Saharan African heritage have been prominent and common-place throughout the history of the Isles. I have no problem with the fact that there would have been people with darker skin here and there, but it's obvious political messaging that's no doubt well meaning wanting to encourage a sense of belonging and pride in cultural heritage, but the BBC is deliberately twisting facts to fulfill their diversity & equity initiatives.
@@GunterThePenguinHatesHugs I mean they literally aren’t, I will admit I was unaware of this song by HH till now, but after giving it a quick watch on RU-vid there is nothing in it which is inaccurate or twisted. @GraveYardShif7 I predicted Boudica and fellow girl bosses would be on the front lines, slaughtering Romans left and right. I skipped through to the end battle and sure enough 😂

@4atlanta4 it's a nah. The trailer makes it look like it's worth the watch because the actors are actually not terrible, but the truth of it is the screen play and the story itself is just insulting to watch. Too many mistakes were made, in script and in just about everything else. There is a Boudica movie they made that was decent but I can't remember what it's called, too long ago since I watched and it was on tv
Olga Kurylenko is a good choice for the part for this film,, funny thing is she was the movie Centurion with Fassbender and played the part of a rebel native helps in "disappearing" the lost ninth Roman legion in Caledonia,,
Kurylenko is terrible here, with no charisma and bad English. Lucy Martin, who plays in this movie, would be much greater choice, her chemistry with Peter Franzén (he is here as well) in Vikings was awesome!
I mean, the Romans were doing the same thing to the Britons. But then, that's also just how war back then WAS. Every nation did it. Caring about civilians really didn't start becoming a thing armies tried to avoid until around the late middle ages.
So did General Paulinus when Boudica and her tribes brought theyre families with them to witness the last stand of the roman army and surrounded the battlefield with wagons for them to stand in,and when the britons lost the initiativ and pushed further and further back, the romans killed every one of them, children and women who was witness to the battle.
@jasonkyle1980 sometimes on particularly bloody campaigns, their main objective though was to romanise the locals and then withdraw their troops. They wanted to assimilate Spainards, Egyptians, Gauls and Greeks into their armies and empire.
@@Bullski123 which, sadly, I don't believe we'd get to see in this movie. The sheer badassitude of the Roman Army at Walting Street would be much inconvenient to the producers historical biaises.
Yeah I know they did have a lot of Viking look alike people in the trailer real Celtic people of that time were Iberian mixed with viking blood but in the first few half of the the trailer they do show a lot of similarities to what the people looked like so I think they got it somewhat accurate.
@MysticalSpirit11865 I think you're replying to the wrong comment, lol. And what they actually mean is the same actors from vikings are also in this movie 😂
Gaius Suetonius Paulinus (the general commander of legio XIV Gemina,) was from my birth town. He was a very experienced and battle hardened soldier. There was no match at Watling Street, it was a slaughter of Celts. This movie is a joke.
It was only a slaughter of celts according to the Roman historians Tacitus and Cassius dio, however there is no archaeological evidence supporting their claims, as the alleged deaths of 80,000 men would still have left visible results to this day, as we see in other theatres of conflict such as in cannae. Basically the romans exaggerated like always
Quite the terrible "retelling", As if this story needed even more embellishing by tagging on nonsense like Christian cruelty not being compatible with Britanic religion at a time when there was no open worshiping of Christ in Rome as they were also persecuted by Rome. They also left out the brutality against her Daughters, that there was no betrayal against the king, her husband nor did Boudica try to bribe her way into being Queen. Her husband named their daughters AND the Emperor as heirs in his will and since Roman law allowed no women to hold office, the kingdom was Romes and they came and took it. Then...then the breaking of the sword and tossing it in the water and being magically remade instantly...god this shit was horrible. It did not need this kind of treatment, the story was already great. I would not recommend this Boudica movie to ANYONE when there are so many great other versions that did not feel the need to ruin her story with nonsense.
Yeah I think they were trying to copy Excalibur by having her sword magically be pulled from the lake. Also they wanted to rip off Gladiator by having her family murdered so she can want vengeance and have a happy reunion with them in the afterlife. It's just a ton of stuff stolen from better movies because these writers have nothing original they can create.....
Her uprising killed upwards of 80,000 Romans...a few more than "a couple hundred". She inspired and led a revolt and is considered a British national heroine.
@@charlesmcmasters couldn't finish off that last legion though. But I'll admit I'm half trolling. At least it seems like it's going to be more historically accurate than black Cleopatra. I am more commentating on how movie seemed to almost always want to have a "hero" and a "villain" to fit the film structure better, so often they will overlook atrocities to make the main character look better. The best example of this is probably Maximus in gladiator where they had to portray him as a sympathetic character and they overlook the fact that he just slaughtered a bunch of natives defending their Homeland and anyone who they captured would be crucified. I'm curious if they're going to show the brutal druidic sacrifices of innocent women and children who were just there and happen to be living in Roman Britain. Realistically, since most of the sources from this time are going to be Roman they're probably going to go into more along the lines of propaganda, but when one considers that Victor's Justice was incredibly extreme in this time I'm curious if it'll actually show what the victorious army will do to anyone that gets in the way, ei lots of rape and murder.
@@aaronrowell6943 lol. The Marcomannis ain't natives defending their homeland, they were one of the first cases of invading barbarians during the II century.
@@WFASPigeonGang trust me I know that anyone who talks about that they are native defending their Homeland I guarantee you about nine times out of ten unless they are the undiscovered civilizations in the Amazon they probably killed somebody to take that land from somebody else
@@charlesmcmasterswhen you say romans, we have to qualify that most of the 80,000 deaths in London described were probably of native britains belonging to tribes loyal to Rome, we know the ones who fled headed West towards the pro roman tribes there. The point at which the nature brits become romans is up for debate, probably around the 200s AD.
Pretty much every film takes some license. Gladiator did some good costumes and it was right about the popularity of gladiators, the use of exotic animals but the history of the characters was bunk, the sister was actually executed by her brother who ended up being strangled by a wrestler.
Maybe I'm missing something... but on IMDB there are 18 actors listed before Boudica. I'm just wondering why I had to scroll down 3 or 4 pages to find out who plays the Title Character
Wow. Finally a movie with a strong female lead. That is so original. Never seen anything like it. This will definitely crush box office numbers. Amazing that this is based on a true story, so you know they will be dropping facts after facts.
The fact we hold these Historical Figures as Heroins is disturbing to me. I think Hollywood should educate themselves before glorifying any Warlord, no matter if they are man or women. There's no question what happened to her and her daughters can only be described as repugnant. However Boudica massacred innocent women and children and cut off the breasts of Women and had them impaled on spikes. She may be a face of freedom like William Wallace to some but Boudica to me wasn't Pro Women and shouldn't be seen as a Women fighting for the rights of other women. Her acts describe more of someone who was a Xenophobic, Genocidal Maniac like Roman Emporers Caligula or Nero.
@@HenryPlantagenet-rl1mi okay cool but not every one is you there are some people who don't fully know what certain films a based from or what the actual events that transpired during that time only the interpretation presented in said film is the majority of the info they get some times while other people have done studies or a small bit or research on the matter before hand.

Many thanks for casting an Ethnic Indo-European of mixed Caucasian and Neolithic Stock to play a Historic British Queen. It shows respect and decency. Regards, The Non Woke Rest of the Planet.
They cast a Ukrainian as a Celt, it’s about as respectful and decent as casting a sub Saharan African as a Celt, I would argue less so. But you don’t care about that, you just want them to be white don’t you
I just seen the preview on Netflix and in the scene she has girls with her that are obviously poc. So I don't know what that is about. I hope they aren't making them out to be her children.
Uhhhhhh, hate to tell you this bro….. this is based on a true story, Boudicca was a real warrior queen of the Britons, her image later became known as Britannia, the British incarnation of war during the empire.
@@allthebanter9316 yeah... no way she was "stronger than men" and was some fierce warrior. may have led an army, ok, but stop with the super human woman thing, especially back in that time. Just stop. its ridiculous
@@grizztough4091 “She was very tall, the glance of her eye most fierce; her voice harsh. A great mass of the reddest hair fell down to her hips. Her appearance was terrifying.”- Tacitus. Boudicca was explicitly a terrifying warrior woman, it’s not like they’re saying every woman of the iceni was some madcap Amazonian, literally this one woman, and you are offended by it? There are many women who are stronger than the average man
@@allthebanter9316she was no doubt a powerful queen, I haven't seen an account that she was a warrior. We have to remember too the writings we have about her come from about 100 years later so it's unlikely they knew exactly what her appearance was like. In fact in making her tall, with a harsh voice, wild hair etc it's making her sound like some kind of androgynous pr masculine woman which was probably part of the roman propaganda to contrast that with the ideal roman or Greek woman who was meant to be a quiet, dutiful mother who took no part in politics.
@@lw3646 the writings we have about her are contemporaneous, they were primarily correspondence from the Roman general she was fighting at the time, Suetonius paulinux. Even the secondary sources that recorded her, such as Tacitus, were alive at the time and had primary sources present in the area, namely his father in law julius Agricola, who was a tribune in Britain at the time. Literally every account of her is as a warrior, she led her soldiers into battle, as was traditional at the time. Finally while yes it is possible that the description of her could be Roman propaganda, it is unlikely that Roman propaganda would be written by an iceni poet, don’t you think? It seems you have just taken the most basic general criticisms of historical sources and not done any research on if those criticisms even apply to the sources we have for Boudicca. The latest writing we have of her that purports to be a primary source is 60 years later, for context there is a longer gap between the end of WW2 and now.

her tribe still had the guts to fight them even though so many Britons died but either way Romans wasted their time trying to expand westward. If they actually focused East they would've been in power longer than any empires. They wasted 500 years trying to expand but nothing great came out of it but blood shed by 5th century they couldn't handle Germanic tribes attacking from all corners. Odoacer basically pulled the plug on the western roman rule
@@Lhenry2365it wasn't just her tribe but a coalition of tribes that revolted, though other tribes in the west appear pro roman. The romans never seem to have managed to completely subdue the Brits but they did to some degree. There's so many remains of roman villas spread across Britain. The romans didn't really try and expand further after the Emperor Trajan, the 3rd century was mostly taken up actually with infighting and civil wars. For an empire to last 400 years is pretty incredible and even the people who sought to overthrow it in some senses wanted to buy into it too. The causes of its collapse are complex and not down to one single factor, still hotly deepened by historians today. There's no denying it's legacy lives on though, latin, christianity and roman writings passed on onto the middle ages.
I feel like they spat all over her memory when they made this movie. Made her out as a crazy person who spoke to ghosts. Plus the screen play was horrible. A lot of repeats with rallying the troops, a Roman telling his troops to halt after they had already been standing idle for several minutes. I feel as if I would be more entertained by reading a dictionary
Are they going to show that after London was sacked, Boudica lead over 100,000 peasants into a death trap against 10,000 Roman soldiers? That from all around people came to watch the fight to take place in the valley below, not knowing that it would be them, not the Romans that would die that day? The Roman's lost less than 500 men, they slaughtered up to 90,000 in some reports. This part of history going to be shown in the movie, a blood thirsty sweet talker that lead thousands to their demise? Or is it going to be a fictional tale glorifying Boudica into something she was not..... I think the latter, unfortunately.
