Huge fan! I watch all the time! Wishing I lived closer or had a way to get a bike cause mine just recently broke down and it's beyond my budget to repair :( it over heated and now lost power and won't run right. Was hoping to have it on the road it was my very first bike. 1982 kawasaki custom kz305 video of it on my channel

The KZ440 was my first bike. My neighbor gave it to me (in pieces). I spent a few months searching local junk yards to find the missing pieces (this was pre-internet). Bought a service manual, and learned how to work on motorcycles with that bike. Finally got it all complete and back together. Ran great and was a joy to ride. I rode it for about ten years, then finally sold it to a teenage kid who was looking for his first bike. Then I started collecting and restoring KZ1000s.

Story time. Back in Soviet Russia, a nuclear power plant was on the brink of meltdown. All the plant operators were at a loss as how to stop it. They called in a specialist. He got off the helicopter and he was lead down into the main control room of the plant. He looked over all the valves and buttons for a bit, then turned one knob. The plant returned to normal operation. 2 days later, the Soviet government received a bill for 500,000 rubles. They sent an officer out to question the specialist as to why he charged them so much for merely turning 1 knob. He replied: because I knew which one to turn. Value is not always merely found in how much you do, but how much you know.

Back in the mid to late 70's throgh the 80's there was a lot of demand for these sub 500cc bikes . I've had a '78 CB400 and a 87' GS450L . There were tons of them , they could be made to go fast , quicker than the 500 triumphs and way more reliable and a good number got fairings and saddlebags/trunks . They are Great Bikes ! the KZ's were a bit faster and at 40HP it was more powerfull than either of the 400's I had ( 28HP best ) . Was enjoyable seeing one of these running again and good to know it was a simple fix on a bike with a good price . Thanks again for another great episode and keep up the great work and wishing all of you many years of safe and fun riding .

Found your channel recently, and had to subscribe, been going through the back catalog of videos and loving all the content. My first motorcycle was a 1978 Kawasaki KZ400/440... bought it in 1994 for $100, clean title and "Didn't run." Spent the winter tearing it down in my 3rd floor apartment (had 2 bedrooms, two bathrooms) - one bathtub was the recipient of many parts and component cleaning sessions. Taught myself to rebuild the carbs, change the fluids, replaced the brakes, new battery, and two tires, it ran like a dream. I rode it year round for three years as my daily commuter vehicle. I miss that little bike.

I have owned the same model KZ440LTD for about 25 years, as one of several bikes. I think about selling it from time to time, but it is such a sweet running, comfortable, easy to ride bike that I can't part with it. I have a 1000cc Beemer, and several other smaller bikes, but the KZ440 is the perfect commuter and around city motorcycle. The low seat height and big padded king/queen seat is cushy. It can do 100mph, and the 6spd trans means that it isn't frantic at highway speed. You got a great deal on a fine machine.

Cool second bike I ever owned was a 1979 KZ440 LTD black and gold. Rode it for awhile the only real issue I ever had with it was the carb diaphragms cracked on it on apparently a common problem I remember they were like a 100.00 for the pair back in 1983 it was like crazy money to me, so I tried patching them well needless to say never found a glue that would hold up to gas so I ended having to buy them from Kawasaki. It was a great bike though really light. My third bike was a brand new Honda 550 Night Hawk talk about fast bike that gets no respect that bike was beast quick and fast shaft driven I had it to 138mph once and it had more to go but was enough for me...

I had a KZ440 given me for repairing a outboard motor, the owner decided to adjust the valves and did it without turning the engine to the correct positions for each valve, he did not know about that stuff, hit the starter and bent valves, broke valve guides etc, pistons survived with a few knicks in them, the engine was apart in a box, it was beyond his capabilities to repair. Apart from that it was in nice original condition, It runs now, the air filter box was missing, try find one of those, just unobtainable, But it is a nice reliable ride, gas and go.

for the carbs, it may help to possibly run some treatment through it, its cheap to do, and just kinda see if it does anything helpful. My current bike, wasnt running perfect for a while, and ive been working on it, just fixed a vacuum leak, still not at 100%, but it does seem to be running better each time I take it out, so I mean, its never a bad idea to just try some carb/fuel system cleaning stuff

Brings back bad memories. Third bike was a KZ440. Worst bike I ever owned. Even the Kawasaki dealer could never get it to run right for more than a day or two. Mechanic told me the carbs were not a good match to the engine for some reason, which caused it to be nearly impossible to keep tuned. Enjoyed a few months of hesitation, bucking, stalling and trips to the shop for tweaks. Sold it for less than I bought it for. Next was an 82 CB750 Custom. Best transition ever....

I have an 81 KZ440 LTD belt drive with 605 actual miles on it. When I get to 800 miles it will need the initial belt adjustment. Bought it new in Montana for about $2200 and before I even licensed it I took a transfer to Minnesota and promptly bought a Suzuki GS850. My wife said to keep the KZ for her to ride. Never happened. Then said hang onto it for our sons to ride. That also never happened. Now 40 years later I'm trying to decide if it's worth putting the money into getting it running again for me to ride. It's a beautiful bike and in great shape except for rust in the tank. And your auction bike started up better than this one ever did. Always cold blooded and took a while to warm up.

I resurrected a 1980 KZ440 that I rescued from a salvage yard last summer. Paid $90.00 for the bike, cleaned the carbs, replaced the rusted out gas tank, transplanted a headlight and turn signals from a Vulcan 1500 parts bike I own, and had that lil' KZ440 running down the road again in no time!

I had a '75 400, loved it. It needed the 6th gear. The 440 had the 6.

Why aren't you doing this anymore? Super entertaining, and selling them to the comment section is awesome

A friend just traded his on a new bike dealer gave him $400 for it. The bike had 7k on the odometer and was immaculate, original paint and chrome not even a scratch (bike looked as good as the day it came off the showroom). The bike even had new tires and chain. the bike ran perfectly he just wanted something bigger. Funny thing is it's currently on the dealers website listed for $2499

My first bike was an LTD440 belt drive that I switched to sprocket and chain and rode until I joined the Navy! My brother liked it so much he bought a LTD 750
