Great video guys, you did a full Enerdrive upgrade for us 12 months back! Best thing we ever did, we have just returned from 3 months on the road, 4 states and many free camping days. The system performed faultlessly and gave us peace of mind without the worry of running low on power! Thanks again to the team for a great job.

I did a ranger dual battery setup that a cust bought it of use with alloy bracket . Looked dope fitted dope . But took way to long to install . . To much to do just to make it fit . Unfortunately i thought it was to much ive done custom timber battery trays behind the seat in these . With bcdc on back wall aswell . In the ranger .weve done heaps even on the chasis mounts ive made them fit there to anyway keep up great work guys .

This is a great video, many thanks. I wish I had seen this before I picked up my new van 2 1/2 years ago, as I would have had an Anderson plug installed on my car then and there. I really need that when going off grid in the NZ winter, as the charge current through my 12 pin plug is just a dribble.

Good advice. 👍 My tip on a 3 way fridge is to install external fans (top vent) and a internal fan. All problems solved.

Excellent video. Would have been interested to hear your thoughts on pairing up an inverter with batteries in particular size of inverter to size of battery especially lithium. My understanding is the a 2000 w inverter is too big for 2 x 100Ah due to the battery bms.

Hi Robert, your understanding is correct. It depends on the maximum discharge the battery is rated for... Usually 100AH Lithium battery will have a max discharge current of 100AH therefore it would only suit a maximum of 1000w inverter. So if you're wanting to run a 2000w inverter, you'd need to look at a 200AH battery.

FYI At 4:36 Briohny muddles up the Ando connections by saying you can't mess up by plugging red into red or grey into grey just a small slip that you may care to edit to save confusion

Great Video! I just installed a TowPro V3 into my Jimny so that I can to more than 300kg. It isn’t as tidy as one of your installs, but I hope to tidy it up a bit when I run an Anderson Plug.

Just found this video - great for explaining the ins and out re electrics and towing. One question- I have a Anderson plug on the front of my camper leading to a dc2dc charger which charges my AGM house battery. When travelling the Anderson plug is connected to my vehicle. When parked I want to have the input from my solar panels which have solar controllers on them. Is is okay to feed ex solar panels via a solar controller to the dc2dc charger . Thanks Peter

Thanks for your comment! Unfortunately most solar regulators will not output enough to wake a DC2DC charger. We would recommend seeing if your Dc2Dc charger has a built in solar regulator and wiring a dedicated Solar input Anderson plug on your trailer.

HI Briohny and Andrewys, great informative video, thanks heaps (not to mention your other vids) Just one question to Andrew. Ive already got a redarc brake controller fitted to my car but we will be purchasing an Dexter sway control caravan. Do I fit another anderson plug to the car? Do I not use the redarc controller anymore? Sorry 3 questions. Again thank you for your time and informative videos pitty your not based in Melbourne.

Hi Tom, Q1) Yes we'd always recommend using an Anderson plug for sway control. Q2) Yes you still use the RedArc TowPro

Hi folks I think you need to check your info regarding 7 pin plugs pin 5 is elec brakes pin 6 is brake lights pin 7 is tail/clearance 😊😊

Thanks for the video very helpful. How would you recommend to power the 3 way fridge while driving? Run it through the 12 pin and use a battery isolator (nissan navara np300)? Or run it off the batterys in the van and use a dcdc to keep the batterys full while driving? Really not sure on how to set it up.

We always recommend running a 3way through the 12pin plug when fridge is set to DC. That's what we've always done and it works well.

Power the fridge from car via just a smart battery isolator or because its a smart alternator in the car do I have to use a dcdc. Only for the fridge while driving nothing to do with the batterys at this stage. Cheers.

Hi Kelly! Thanks for your comment! The grey anderson at the rear is the charge feed from the vehicles start battery to the DC2DC charger in the caravan that then charges the batteries. Thank you for watching 🙂 - The Team at Accelerate Off-Grid Touring

Love coming back to your vids for refreshers. If I have dual batteries under my bonnet, am i able to run x3 separate ?8B&S wires from the aux battery for the ESC + power to charge van battery + power direct to fridge? Or do all/some need to connect directly to the starter battery? Thankyou :)

Thanks for your comment! We recommend connecting the supplies for your caravan to your start battery, Going via the AUX battery can create a bottle neck due to DCDC charger outputs.

Thanks for your reply. Sorry, I should have described my setup better. From what I can see I have an isolator between my start and aux battery (both batteries being in the engine bay) - no DCDC charger. Therefor, am i able to run x3 separate ?8B&S wires from the aux battery instead of the start battery for the ESC + power to charge van battery + power direct to fridge? Thankyou again.

Thanks guys that was very helpful. We are looking at a bigger van that does have sway control. It doesn't have a dedicated Anderson plug for this, just a 12 pin. It is OK to keep the 7 pin on the car with electric brakes, and change the van to a 7 pin plug and an Anderson plug for the heavy duty 12v feed instead?

Great channel. Unfortunately I can’t use your services as I’m in NZ. But I do have a question about the 3-way fridge 12v supply. If the van had a decent lithium battery system, could a VSR in the vehicle be used to switch a relay (in the van) between fridge and van batteries ? That would only then require a low switching current from the vehicle and thus smaller cabling. (Obviously would only work where a DCDC was at least equaling the fridge draw to maintain battery charge).

In theory Yes. We recommend a dedicated Charge feed for your DCDC Charger with adequate cabling. In Regards to Fridge, The 12v function of a 3 way fridge is power hungry, In some cases upwards of 25 amps. We recommend a dedicated fridge circuit via an Ignition relay off the vehicles start battery. You could relay the 12v Fridge supply via the Caravan Batteries switched by the car but this means their are more moving components present in the system and more to go wrong in the bush!

Truly appreciate your video. Two issues I hope you can help with to initially get me out of trouble. Just about to pick up a 2nd hand van that has electric brakes, 12-pin flat & ESC. Can't recall seeing a red Ando plug on the previous owners car. In my car I have electric brakes, a 7-pin flat & a grey Ando. (i have bought an 12pin/7pin adapter to get me 50km when i pick the van up) Issue 1 - Will the adapter I'm using be safe enough for now to get me home? Issue 2 - If I open up the van's 12-pin, what am i looking for to show where the ESC has been wired into and would it be on the 7pin section?? Any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated thanks.

Hey Chris Congratulations on the new van. My understanding is if your caravan is fitted with ESC and it isn't installed to work in your car and you have an accident your insurance will be void. Hence we always recommend fixing the car before you tow. You can usually call the caravan manufacture and request a wiring diagram from them. Also when you plug in your car & caravan via trailer plug the lights for the ESC monitor (usually on the drawbar) should flash green, if they don't flash then the ESC isn't working. ESC can be wired to the batteries in the caravan too. Open the 12pin on the van & see if there are big wires in the 8-12pin section (but big wiring could be fridge feed as well. ESC is generally not wired into the first 7pins, but won't say NEVER wired. I hope this is of some help. Thanks :)

Electric brakes are not compulsory on trailers over 750Kg , Over run brakes are fine on many trailers and caravans in Australia

Thanks for your comment!, yes not compulsory, Trailers having only a single axle and a GTM not exceeding 750kg do not require brakes. Trailers of GTM over 750kg must have brakes. Trailers of GTM over 750kg and not exceeding 2000kg must have braking on the wheels of at least one axle. Trailers of GTM over 2000kg must have braking on all wheels. Do you need a Shunt before an inverter that is wired to all 240v power points in a caravan?

I'm not to sure what you mean. The shunt in our lithium systems is there to measure the current flow. We always have battery then a shunt straight afterwards the shunt sends data to the gauge/monitoring system which then easily displays the battery stats. If it's an Enerdrive system it sends data to an epro, or BMPro to a Jhub. Then after that is the rest of the electrical system. I hope this helps.

Yes, we can install cameras anywhere on the vehicle/trailer. To compliment the rear camera is up to you, it just gives you more vision down the side when parking up and travelling on the roads

H John here, Great video, thank you, now subscribed! We have ordered a new van for next year with Dexter ESC and the dealer has said it does need a Red Ando as it uses the house battery. Is this right? and they say to wire grey ando with 12mm2. Is this big enough?

Thanks for your comment! Some Sway Control systems receive their power from the Caravans house batteries. We would recommend acquiring a full wiring diagram from your caravan manufactures to ensure your vehicle is set up correctly. Each system can differ between makes & models.

Thanks for your comment! Is there a DC2DC charger installed in the camper, if so, highly likely its the Anderson into that so you can charge your batteries whilst you drive, but you will need to check this first by following the cable. You will need to get an isolated anderson plug wired into your vehicle so you can hook it up. If you are in SE Queensland we can do it at your workshop in Maroochydore. I purchased a solar blanket and the Anderson plug powers the solar controller. Thanks again for your help. You live in a great part of Oz. I’m on South Oz.

Mate i need your help, ive rang JAYCO service Sydney asked them for a wiring diagram for the trailer 12 pin plug for a Jayco Starcraft outback 2017 , My Auto Elec requires it to wire a 12 pin plug , Jaycos reaponse just go down to SC AUTO and buy a kit 😂😂😂 No help at all,
