Riddick Bowe defends the heavyweight title against Evander Holyfield - the rematch of their bout one year prior. Hosted by Jim Lampley, George Foreman, and Larry Merchant. Recorded on VHS November 1993.
These were the days. Tyson, Holyfield, Bowe, Lewis, McCall, Mercer, Morrison, Ruddock, Foreman, Holmes, Moorer, Cooper, Bruno. All matches were exciting and a pleasure to watch.
Larry Merchant: George, did you ever think of putting a kitchen in a bedroom? George Foreman: Yep. LMAO that had me dying. Big George was dead serious.
@mattajas butterbean is a real boxer. He was the king of the 4 rounders, wasn't he. 4 rounders become a real thing. Tyson and holy are gearing up right now to do it once again.
Hope your dad was Saved! Ps...... Wow!!............... ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-sluNuVp2_TE.html ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-BYtO7iPlb5c.html
Masterful tactics by Holyfield. He didn't brawl too much in this fight like he did in the 1st fight with Bowe. Here he used his skills and speed, boxed more, was elusive, patient and disturbed Bowes rhythm almost the hole fight, and when Bowe didn't know what to do Holyfield let his hands go. I had this fight 116-113 for Holyfield.
Yep and that is one of the many reasons hes an all time great, he had the ability to morph into something else when he had to, he could come forward and bang and fight inside or he could bounce around and jab effectively with a guy 3-4 inches taller and much longer. Add that his will and his other worldly recuperative powrrs and hes a legend
@@kyleprather7228 As Real Deal always said, it's all about making adjustments. After that 1st fight, he realized he couldn't come in at a tiny 208lbs. It worked vs. Foreman but he was able to dance circles around George in a way he couldn't with the younger and more athletic Bowe who had such a good inside game as well. And, he didn't let Bowe's low blows and dirty tactics allow him to stray from the game plan. IMO, a fully-focused prime Holyfield who sticks to the right gameplan is as dangerous and formidable a fighter as any whoever lived. We saw it in the Douglas fight, both Tyson fights, this fight, and a handful of others where he simply wouldn't be denied, mentally, emotionally, or physically.
I have a very similar scorecard! Only I had Bowe in round 7 for a final score of 115-113 Holyfield. 1, 2, 9, and 12 were clearly Bowe rounds 5, 6, 8, 10, 11 were clearly Holyfield rounds. 3 and 4 I saw Holyfield the superior boxer and that left only 7 for Bowe.
@@austinlittke5580 hey just say you disagree with how I scored the round. No need to be rude. Don’t act bold behind a phone screen, knowing if you talked to someone like that in person, you’d most likely be picking your teeth up off the ground you scrawny punk.
Sterling wainscott love your site classics HBO boxing programs in full thanks for all your hard work and time there's nothing like boxing from the 1970's, 1980"s & 1990s great job!!🥊🥊
They always say Tyson's apex was the Spinks fight. And while nothing can be taken away from Mike, Spinks was a blown-up light heavyweight, terrified, and on a knee brace. Even if he wasn't, he was NEVER going to beat Tyson, he couldn't hurt him and his twig neck would never be able to stand up to that. Here, Holyfield is facing a giant champion, and his performance is just a thing of absolute beauty b/c he was bigger than his early HW days of 205-208lbs, but he could still dance all night long. IMO this version of Real Deal would've wiped out any version of Tyson in 10 rounds or less. Book it Dano.
Evander flipped the script on him in the 4th. Straight dogged him the entire round, kept firing viscous combos, even ignoring bell. Bowe had the momentum but Holyfield ripped it away from him. Superhuman effort by the real deal.
Bowe is stronger, taller and more aggressive but he seemed ill-prepared. However Evander was exceptionally determined and in high readiness both mentally & physically for the fight. His effort was a success. I guess this is one of the most exciting fights in boxing history
1:21:27 let's give Bowe a TON of credit for taking the high road here. A man seeing his pregnant wife in distress yet refusing to say it effected his focus or say it was an excuse. I'm not articulating it well but this was an extraordinarily classy gesture on Bowe's part.
Indeed. Bowe definitely was a crybaby. Every modern fighter could take a lesson. Now they all say, "I'm not gonna make excuses* then proceed to make 3 of them.
Holyfield legend and 4 time Champ, Bowe is a Champion also but he got lazy and was losing to Golota and really lost to him twice if not for the crazy low bows.
I remember how the HBO pay per view fights would always be shown the next Saturday on HBO but they wouldn't announce it ahead of times (like the TV guide and the HBO guide would have some movie listed at that time). I'm guessing so they wouldn't discourage people from buying the pay per view. Of course it didn't take long to figure out the pattern.
Holyfield won this fight. Much better fight plan. Out worked bowe... landed clearer shots. Bowe won the first 4 then Holy won like next 6, 7. Basically 6-5 Holyfield.
Amazing title fight holyfeild won the title back very close bowe wasn't in his best shape as he was in their fight one. Still one of the best title fights ever.
I always love how supremely confident Holyfield was (always) in this fight especially, and the 1st Tyson fight when he guaranteed victory. And when Jim Grey said, "That sounds like the most outrageous guarantee since Joe Namath" Holyfield, "Well, I did it in the Bowe 2 fight and I was victorious" Grey, "Little different situation tonight" Holy, "Well, the peoples are different, the situations are different...but God still the same. Yesterday and today, He still the same" LOL. Fucking awesome. And look at Holy's little dance and smug face during his ring introduction. Just classic!
I love that Foreman of all people criticizing Bowe on eating Pork Chops and Spare Ribs. What you been eating George? Cheeseburgers? Perhaps Bowe could have used George's grill back then.
@@bobber0623 that's a great point. He showed great stamina against Briggs and Saverese. But he looked gassed against Schultz. Leaned on him so much for support if Schultz had stepped back Foreman would've fell over
That end of the 4th round is reminiscent of the 6th round of Tyson-Holyfield I. Holy had played it relatively cautious, let the big guy spend himself a little, and then show the other man that he is the damn boss, coming forward and raining bombs like Hiroshima.
I remember hearing about and seeing the Fan Man incident as a kid just after it happened. I still have never seen anything like that happening in a boxing match. Legendary fight.
A great classic fight that will never be seen again sadly!! Fan man save riddick from getting knocked out and made the fight way more interesting and fun even though he took a beating for it getting punched and hit with bottles!!! Here's an unknown fun fact: his plan was to land in the ring but the wind pushed him off a few inches 🌬️🎐😎🥊🥊🥊😄
What are you on about? If anything bowe was coming back in the round the fan man appears in. He was taking command and Holyfield looked tired, the break helped Holyfield as much if not more.

@@mr.t658 right both corners got in the ring and got to their fighter before Mills Lane got a hand on them 😆 funny because he was really one of the best officials in the sport.
These two men were two of the best heavyweights to ever step in the ring and although Bowe had a bit of issues out of the ring with his wife they were both good men inside and outside the ring.
Kind of funny that they had different angles of the parachutes prior to him entering the ring. Starting to think this was a botched attempt at something that was supposed to be bigger.
It's amazing to me that Foreman was a professional (and champion) fighter, yet his analysis can be way off at times throughout a fight. Sometimes he can provide unique insight, but it's one of the other.
well later on Big George ended up winning the title back not sure if it was the same he had before if thats what they mean it mightve been a different won but he became heavyweight champion again....i wouldve liked to have seen more of Riddick Bowe i saw the Bowe Golota fights they were rpetty good but seom peopel steamrolled GOlota and he really gave Bowe a good go so maybe Bowe wasnt as good as his record indicates but still i liked watching him and liked him as a fighter wouldve been nice to see more of him and see him fight better fighters there always seemed to be a side distraction with him...leaving then joining the military and such
I never understood why they dont make fighters pull there trunks to the proper waist level cos a low blow can look low when its not and the fighter can play on it pretending
NO WAY IN HELL Bowe lost that fight. I had him by 2 rounds. Pure business. At the worst a draw. Bowe pressed the fight. He was so gracious in defeat. I think he took Holyfield lightly though and.never trained aswell but still he NEVER lost.this fight. Great match though.
I see it close when scoring it: Rounds 1, 9, and 12 are CLEARLY Bowe rounds. Rounds 5, 6, 8, 10, and 11 are CLEARLY Holyfield rounds. Given how close the remaining rounds were I can see a draw or thin decision for Holyfield, which is what the cards reflected. I don't see either fighter having a case for a wide margin of victory.
Evander said he was getting ready to run out of the ring when some little fruitcake with a parachute lands on the ring...but is totally cool with Riddick Bowe trying to punch his head off.....ok ..got it.....elephant and mouse comes to mind.
George was always an awful broadcaster, but at least he was entertaining a lot of the time. This here must be one of the top 3 worst performances of his I've ever heard. Also Lampley was even terrible here, and I love him. Larry is the only one with sense here tonight.
