@@taylorpack7705 lmao he cleaned out the division, he fought and beat every 90's heavyweight aside from Foremam and Moorer. Who the hell did Bowe beat aside from Holy?
I swear to god I want holyfield as my bodyguard over anyone else on earth. I cannot even find the words to explain this guy's heart and courage and just fucking BALLS
@@bryandungee1029 everyone was on steroids, bro, one way or the other, he just got busted, even to this day all elite athletes or on gear, you kind of have to when millions are on the line, of course it has been better filtered in this era, but those days was the wild west, if you didn't take the juice you didn't have a chance, real talk
schompification schompye These two were so closely matched in their prime. I really think either guy could win on any day. I think Holyfield checked out for a heart defect after this fight. I can't believe Holyfield is still fighting.
I see Holyfield as a great fighter. But I believe him to be cheater tho. From steroids to way beyond normal tactics. Too many people have complained on him for head butting and other dirty tactics. Plus the steroids were undeniable
I tell ya. Both these guys were trying to clock each other with those right hands. Bowe's landed right on the chin. But the angle made it so that Holyfield's jaw had nowhere to turn. Brutal punch. Poor Evander, ever the warrior, got up but he was out on his feet. Joe Cortez almost stopped it right there.
CHAMPION BOWE I NEVER LIKED YOU TILL YOU SHOWED YOUR HEART AND ADMIRATION AND RESPECT FOR HOLIFIELD..GOD BLES VOTH OF YOU CHAMPIONS...I LIKE YOU NOW CHAMPION BOWE..YOUR ALRIGHT MAN
So many great storylines here. After first Bowe/Holyfield, Evander realized he needed to put on weight (muscle for a cruiserweight). He looked VERY jacked in the 2nd fight, and heart conditions often result from steroid use. Holyfield's stamina plummeted for several fights, then it reappeared, possibly after having his condition treated. Big George Foreman's instincts were correct. Holyfield was fighting on "dangerous courage here". Then when Lampley probes him about his silence you can tell he's not happy, genuinely concerned about another fighter's welfare.
Even though Holyfield lost the fight it was almost a blessing in disguise because it convinced promoter Don King to set the fight with Mike Tyson because he felt that Evander was a shot fighter. It didn't turn out that way because he outboxed Tyson and made it a boxing match while Bowe was regressing badly after the Trilogy, he didn't stay in shape after the winning the Heavyweight title in the 1st fight and he got hit way too much which set up the brawls with Andrew Golota. Andrew Golota was a talented fighter but way too much of a street fighter and if it wasn't for the low blows in the 2 fights he would have easily beaten Bowe. The reason why Holyfield was slow and off track because he was diagnosed with Hepatitis C which really affected his stamina in the 3rd fight. If he never had Hepatitis C then Holyfield would have won by knockout or decision most likely KO.
It's boxing politics and I researched this angle. Don King wanted no part of Holyfield for a long time and got his break when Tyson bail out in 92 from the rib cage injury and then the rape conviction. All boxers and promoters duck certain fighter all the time. Don King and Tyson was no exception because during 1995 and 1996 the perception of Evander was he was a shot fighter from the trilogy but in reality Riddick was the shot fighter by not staying in shape and took a lot of clean shots to his head which affected him mentally. But, King didn't look at it that way and he thought this was the best time to place Tyson with Holyfield which was a mistake on his part. Don King did the same thing with Lennox Lewis because he knew how talented he was and he did every tactic possible to avoid until Tyson left King in 2000 and went for Lewis in 2002. The main problem is promoters try to control a sport to the point where they can dictate when the fan can see fights that we want to see. This is why UFC is killing boxing and also why the Mayweather and Pacquiao has not happened.
They actually were supposed to fight in 1992 but then came the rape conviction which delayed the fight until 1996. Before, Holyfield was an unknown heavyweight and after he knocked out Douglas a lot of critics didn't see him as the true undisputed heavyweight champion. It was after he lost to Bowe in the 1st fight that fans began to show more respect for him and became the "Real Deal".
Abel Mehari Your my best friend you know a lot like me. Also tyson and holyfield was also supposed to fight in 1990 if he would of beaten buster Douglas but he got knocked out.
Bowe through out his career always got hit alot by his opponents. Good thing for him he had a rock solid chin and blessed with a strong physic. He took a pounding from Pierre Coutzer, was out boxed by Tony Tubbs. But he was a really great fight in his prime and a lot of fun to watch. One of the best in fighters I've ever seen. And you're right about his abilities regressing after the trilogy. I saw both Golota fights in person, and right before the start of the second fight I was chatting with the guy sitting behind me and was giving him my take on what was going to happen. I told him that my prediction was that there was a real possibility Bowe was going to be hurt badly this night, and possibly would be the very last fight we would see him in. After what I witnessed the first fight, that was the only conclusion I could come to. It was a very sad thing to watch being a fan of Bowe through his whole career being he was from Brooklyn and all. And the funny thing is, my prediction for the first fight was as wrong as wrong can be, and correct as correct can be for the second.
Amo a nobre arte.
Holifield era fera ,por se tratar de um peso médio..ela dava um passo a frente como se fosse ,uma dança pra golpear ; repara quando acerta o bowie na queda
Evander and Riddick had such a cool relationship with Evander being this old dude with few words and Riddick being the loud young guy, and yet they still got along very well with each other even after their fights
Then he went onto win the world title 2 more times Holyfield was a special fighter a very underrated heavyweight because he lost fights on paper he shouldn't of at times but he literally fought every body Lewis(x2) bowe (x3) Mike Tyson (x2) George foreman Michael moorer(x2) James Toney. Probs the great cruiseweight ever and one of the most underrated heavyweight champions ever
Holyfield was almost a last min scratch in this 3rd fight. He had flu symptoms a few days leading up to the fight, but didn't want to cancel so close to fight time. He fought for his fans. He simply ran out of what little energy he had. Obviously he should have postponed the fight. But still almost won with a ko. Holyfield was a true real deal Warrior. On a side note, what in the hell fight were Lamply, Forman and the other guy watching.?? Holyfield had this fight in his back pocket up until he gassed out. Lol..
Man. Holyfield had Bowe dead to rights in that sixth round but just didn't have the energy to knock him out. One or two decent shots would've done it - Bowe's legs were gone.
"and thanks for your career." As if Holyfield's careers was over. lol Wrong again, bozo! How many times did people count Holyfield out, and he came back and kicked ass? What an awesome warrior.
@@tonyslark7368 I agree. He was basically a Cruiserweight. fought at heavyweight even when the heavies started to become 17+ stone. Holyfield vs Ali is my dream "what if" fight.
Yeah he had a the heart of a champion there's no doubt about that but you know he was big on steroids and he was a dirty head butter. Even though Riddick Bowe through a lot of low blows in this fight and got away with a lot of them I wonder if that's like a lotta through so many low blows on Riddick Bowe in the first fight when he was completely dominating him and then the second fight with a little more competitive colada again making bow look pretty bad and through low again for no reason that time but wasn't really hurt he was just tired of getting his ass kicked so he played hurt
They counted out Holyfield about as often as he took steroids. Sometimes in sports accomplishments are kept under the very same standards that ruin the careers of others like Lance Armstrong or Ben Johnson....Holyfield got away with it. He's not one I admire.
What a warrior. Holyfield is surely the toughest fighter ever even though he got knocked out here. He and Archie Moore impress me the most in this way.
Merchant: "It's not boring when a fighter I like stays on the outsde, uses his jab, moves around the ring. It shows great defense and great ring generalship. But if its a fighter I don't like then its boring, and damnit I need to be entertained." Larry Merchant is such a tool.
It's totally obvious that something was very wrong with Holyfield. No energy at all. That's why Foreman was commenting (or not commenting) in the manner he was. It must have been very worrisome watching it live at the time. If Holyfield had any energy, he could have finished Bowe. Bowe wasn't just down, he looked almost out. But Holyfield didn't have any energy to throw follow-up punches. Even though the round had just started.
With or without energy Holyfield still would’ve been knocked tf out. Bowe was always better than Holyfield after the first fit he wasn’t in the best shape and still managed to make the second fight mad close and still ko’d holyfield😂
He is definitely top 25 the beatings he put on prime Holyfield and winning this trilogy puts him there could have achieved so much more though a real shame you could tell he was done with boxing pretty much in this post fight interview
Holyfield is definitely gasping for air from round four, he must have had problems in this fight because he was usually super fit and conditioned. He said he had hepatitis. Whatever it was, he wasn't his usual self.
There was a string of fights there, starting with the Moorer fight, where he didn't look right. There was also a heart condition that was never fully explained. He looked so bad, people literally thought his career was done, myself included.
If I'm not mistaken, and I could be, I believe I saw an interview where Holyfield was fighting something like hepatitis but did not want to scrub the fight. That would explain his apparent lack of stamina. He knew he could not go the full fight and had to gun it for an early KO, but wasn't able to pull it off.
i dont think he lacks discipline tho. if he lacked discipline he could not beat holyfield twice, tubbs and golota. you must have discipline to beat these guys and win the wbc wba and ibf belt. dont you agree? but i agree with you he got to fat tho. its ashame but i stick with my oppinion hes the must underrated heavyweight champion ever
Larry Holmes accomplished what Riddick Bowe didn't. Larry Holmes was also better than Riddick comparing both man's footwork and jabs. And still Larry Holmes gets overlooked by a lot of people.
No shit.... what are you what will you say next at the water that water is wet the sky is blue oh, well I'm glad I grew up doing this I remember they holifield was diagnosed with a heart problem and retired after the fight only to say it was misdiagnosed and to come back and fought way to late in life
wrong Holyfield fought Bobby Czyz after and even though he stopped him in 5 rounds Holyfield looked just as bad as he did here which is why I think they made the fight thinking Tyson would get a big easy payday
@@willisapril He looked so physically damaged in this fight, that I remember as a little kid being afraid for Holyfield's health against Tyson. It wasn't even a win or loss thing. It was like "he looks so unhealthy I don't want him to get seriously injured." That is what made that victory so amazing.
ccali327 I think Evander looked good early in this fight bowe just took his gas by going to the body and making him wear his weight on the inside and mixing it up pin the outside even as a kid I knew Holyfield was going to beat tyson bowe was just a hard matchup for him had his number most of the time
Dear young fight fans,u notice Bowe walks to Holyfield before fight and they hug each other.then put on boxing clinic with some brutality.Wilder and Fury talk trash, get in each other's face, shove each other, but never convince anyone either of them can box....
Bowe could have been one of the all-time greats. He just should have had more big fights. And watched his weight more carefully. I would bet my money on him agains Lewis.
I am not sure what else as anything I can think is the inescapable reality now. I am more confident about the result of this fight because when Holyfield lost against Lenox Lewis in the second fight, it was supposed to be the only time Holyfield had a negative record against another fighter.
Cortez should have stopped it after Holyfield went down first. He didn’t respond to him or put his hands up. Great fight tho! Had it 66-65 Bowe going into the 8th.
In round 7 holyfield miss another big left hook and tupac almost jumped out his chair lolll...holyfield was perhaps one more big left hook away from putting bowe down again
holyfield had hepatis in this fight, that causes your energy to spike and dip, you could see it happening, he would fight hard then look dead on his feet without doing anything,
a truly incredible boxer, he went beyond what Floyd Patterson tried to do moving up from Cruiserweight and taking on the best. You can't help love the guy
Plus there is the mysterious heart issue that was never really clear. It was so clear he wasn't the same guy in this fight or even the Moorer fight that he was in the past. I can remember in the Moorer fight, Teddy Atlas was encouraging Mike saying "There is something wrong with this man."
Holyfeild had hepatitis c this fight which is what made him gas out if holyfeild was healthy he wouldve stopped bowe ion see how Holyfeild was past his prime or shot here he went on to demolish micheal moore flooring him 5 times and making him quit and took a prime lewis 12 rounds
@@deadarmd Tyson was very susceptible to the uppercut, and no one threw more uppercuts than Bowe. Bowe also had a long reach, so Tyson would have to get inside where Bowe can also do a lot of damage, and/or lean on/smother the much, much smaller Tyson. Tyson himself said he would never fight Bowe because he had too much respect for him/knew the likely outcome...
In their second rematch, it was very close win for Holyfield. Overall Bowe defeated Holyfield. Bowe had only one loss in his pro career, a controversial decision.
These 3 fights are so underrated this was bowe and holyfield at there best the fights that proceeded with Tyson Lennox Lewis supposedly were the next big fights we're nothing not even close to these fights only Frazier ali were on the same level bowe and holyfiield were never the same after these fights
