We did not do a good job of explaining the holes we were looking for. Those are grinding holes…. Native American Indians would use them to grind seeds (mostly from mesquite tree pods in this area) into flour to make bread….. hence the name Indian Bread Rocks.

When we visited, I figured that the "Indian Bread Rocks" were all round, jumbled boulders. They reminded me of the dough balls that I've seen Navajo women form before flattening them for fry bread.

There are more grinding holes behind the big campsite on the right before the picnic area. If you go farther in from your campsite there is a cool rock that looks like an Easter Island head. Also the Fort Bowie trailhead is cool and not too far away.

Along with the bedrock mortars we saw here there are also polished rock on big slabs of rock in the area that were done by the Ancients.

This is one of my favorite boondocking spots, and I've been all over the US full time traveling 10 yrs with 26 ft travel trailer. Now remote off grid stationary high desert AZ but got truck bed shell with 100watt solar mounted to get back out there for exploring. Feet were 'itching'!

Although the town of Bowie isn't much does Indian Bread Rock make up for it. It is so beautiful. I've overnighted there on a couple of occasions. In all my five years of travel full time in my camper van is that only the second place where I was also approached by a Ranger who was very friendly, but also told me in no uncertain terms that the length of stay is 14 days. I. e that area is patrolled.

A few days ago I watched someone from another YT channel showcase this exact same area. But I liked your video better because she did not use a drone and I think she was there about 1 month to 6 week before you so all the vegetation looked so dead in her video. Everything seemed so much more greener in your video! Really cool place.

That was a cute shot when the curious cow knocked over the camera. 🐄 🤠 The geology there is super impressive. All those balanced rocks and the Native American grinding holes. That looked so fun to explore. Bet there's so many artifacts rolling around in that sand out there. Arizona rocks! We're team "Pea-Can" 😂

Love this place! Wilcox has a waste transfer station, and a friendly laundromat. When I was there, there was a lot of random trash so please do pick that up and take it to the transfer station- the plus is that they weigh your vehicle coming in and out so you know your current weight!

Love this video. I've driven by Bowie numerous times, never knew about the pecan pie. Would sure like to go to Indian Bread Rocks, maybe next time I head west. I've camped outside of Portal, Az a few times. Lots of hiking and a beautiful area too. Your drone video was terrific. I still don't understand why you don't have at least 200k subscribers! ♥️. Carrie, you'd love the variety of birds.

Nice, guys! We were there last year. We parked not too far from the Bread Rocks plaque and vault toilet, on the right side. We loved that area! I remember seeing rocks that looked like loaves of sliced bread. We hit the Chiricahuas every time we head to AZ. There are great boondock sites about 5 m from there, but no cell service. We started driving cross country to Cave Creek..OMG. Have more info if you need it. Just got home from FL. Thanks for the water mgmt district info. Very helpful!

At this point in my learning, I don't believe any of the narrative we've been given. Most of this landscape is nothing what they tell us. It looks like old melted and destroyed civilizations to me--beautiful as it may seem nowadays. Those little trees are nothing but bushes in comparison. The mounds and hills look like piles of excavated dirt from underground. The mesas look like giant tree stumps. 🤷‍♀
