Shot both again multiple times over the last week and went with the CT5. At 28.5" draw length and a 450g arrow there is only 3fps difference between both bows. The prime is more efficient at my draw length.
I shot Traverse, Realm, Ct3 and Ct5 today. At #70 the traverse was by far the hardest to pull off brace height, the Realm second and the Prime was the easiest of the three. The Traverse tapered into a solid stop as did the Cts, the Realm is very constantly the end then kinda dumps off. I felt none of this vibration you speak of with just a whisker biscuit. I totally agree, had I purchased today it would be a Prime Logic of the length you desire. For me, leaning toward the Ct5 but could sport the Ct3 no problem, no shorter. Those that live off speed ratings and light arrows have plenty to choose from out there. 5-10 fps lost over comfort, stability and accuracy not mention ease of tune, is a No brainer. I am in the heavy arrow camp and a rig shooting 270 to 290 fps is amazing as it is deadly. I been shooting to recurves for 20 years and had let another bull walk last week so I'm setting up another rig. I'm getting to old to keep letting the walk. It's a great time to be into archery, incredible bows! God bless you and happy hunting.
Luis Sanchez thank you for taking the time to watch the video and leave a comment. Bows have come a long way and are all really close and people really need to ignore brand names and shoot all of the bows to see which one feels best to them.
The decibel reading is of the arrow hiting the target. This is not an adequate way to measure the noise rating of the bow itself. And the echo in the room does not help but actually perpetuates the issue. I'd recommend doing a distance shot Outside on a quiet calm day. Outside of this, great review of the bows. Good job sir
Great review. If you take in consideration Primes features , Parallel cams, centered grip, flexis ar, swerve, 82x riser plus FREE string & cables most educated archers will choose Prime. They are designed for accuracy. No reinventing the wheel w/ Prime. Once setup & tuned these bows do nothing but improve.
Hi thanks for the review I enjoyed it. I own a ct 5 but also like the bowtechs. One thing I have found with the primes is that vibration a good tuning does cut most of it out and then I put a cool hand luke string stop on for $25 and there is no vibration at all it is also the most accurate bow I have personally shot not saying that will be the case for everyone but it fits me well thanks for the review look forward to more
That is around the speed I'm getting out of my sr6 in the comfort mode one question was can't really compare the speed because the sr6 is built for speed well that is the key characteristic of the bow that is one of the pros so yes you can compare that need to do the test with the speed cycle
Ty Skinner thank you for commenting. This was a matchup that I was asked to do. In the other videos I’m matching up bows that have very similar specs and trying to get them as close as possible. I appreciate you taking the time to comment and share your thoughts.
i might be wrong on this but isn't the sound of the arrow hitting the target louder than the bows shot? i just feel like the sound meter is picking up the sound of arrow contacting the target not the bow shooting (that'd explain why the numbers were almost identical) maybe you'd see a bigger difference if you were shooting into something softer like a pillow or out a window? All and all great video keep up the good work!
Believe it or not but the sound of arrows hitting a target is not usually louder than the bow itself. I believe there is a video somewhere on RU-vid of someone testing that out, but there are free DB reading apps on all smart phones, try it out if you don’t believe me.
Killer video. Loved the amount of detail you went into. Did that "tuning fork" situation go away once accessories were added on the Prime? I'd imagine it would. Keep up the great videos.
Dialed in Hunter the tuning fork affect I’ve been told is coming from the yolk cables and does go away once strings and cables are swapped out. Thank you for watching and commenting.
I have been shooting a CT5 for a month, the extra vibration that you noticed really starts to cause fatigue after shooting 40 plus arrows. The bow shoots nice but I can’t get rid of the vibration.
Brian Spears I was told from a highly experienced bow tech that it was in the yokes. Sounds like if you replace your strings it will eliminate the vibration.
From what I’ve heard (I can’t say how true it is) the riser is actually designed specifically to harness that vibration. It’s why the bottom has that section that curves out.
I watched the traverse/rx3 video and I’m surprised to see that the SR6 is only 7 FPS fast considering the ibo speed is 14 FPS faster. Just picked up a traverse. Imo it’s the best bow of 2019
My Elite Ritual 33 had that EXACT same tuning fork vibration feeling in the riser. I thought something was off on my bow, but I shot 3 other shop bows and they all had it.. One of the reasons I sold it actually.. just couldn’t get over it. Stabilized didn’t help.
Wow ive shot my share of Bows never thought id part with my Mathews. But my Elite Ritual 35 has very little vibe if any isnt noticiable at all i run a front and rear stabilizer. When its in Spec, timed, tuned, etc. i just basically point it like a Shotgun focus on center relax n squeeze! Arrows find the center! Ive got 3 other bows but this one just fits n feels right!
nice commentary - really clear explanation of your first-hand experience. I'm just newly back into archery (30 years out, used to shoot yumi) - my son is enjoying archery (Diamond Infinite Edge) so I'm doing my research so I can shoot with him. I notice that a lot of the risers with minimal vibration tend to be either heavier and / or have a cage design to reinforce the upper parts of the riser to reduce vibration. Do you think the lack of cage in the Prime CT5 might be part of the ongoing "tuning fork" vibration?
Thank you for taking the time to leave a comment. The tuning fork was actually coming from the yoke cable. The factory yoke string comes with fewer strands, so as soon as you change out the cables and strings with aftermarket you'll be good to go and not have any tuning fork.
@@ElkCallingAcademy awesome - thanks for the quick reply :) That's a relatively cheap fix :) Did you get a chance to shoot the CT5 again with the aftermarket cables and strings to confirm the advice from Prime?
@@ElkCallingAcademy thanks for confirming - much appreciated. Well... I say "thanks" but in reality this has just made my decision even harder 🤣😅🤣 I'm not going to be hunting - purely 3D and target / field. So far I've narrowed it down to Bowtech SR6, Elite Echelon 37 / 39, Mathews Vertix / TRX 38 or (now) the Prime CT5 / CT9. I'll be drawing 65 / 70 lbs at 27.8 inches. The cost isn't so much of a factor as I'd rather focus on getting something that's decent quality and that I can grow with and not need to replace. And I'm starting to favour the larger bows on principal that they'll have an easier / smoother draw cycle. Although that said I do really like the Vertix for its flexibility around draw weight and also the integration of the QAD IMX dropaway rest. Shame they haven't built those features into the TRX 38. Unfortunately, it's a tiny market here in little New Zealand so nobody carries enough stock for me to be able to shoot / trial these bows. Which makes reviews like yours invaluable (thanks matey 😁👍). So it's really just a case of a bit more research to minimise the risk of disappointment. Although to be honest, all of these bows are going to out-shoot me so I don't think I'll be unhappy with either of them 🤣😅🤣 Any thoughts?
Luvin Itall sorry about that. Haha! Usually I would tell someone to shoot all the bows to decide but you don’t have that option. I’m personally shooting the Traverse right now and will be picking up the Vertix right before winter of that helps your decision.
Your decibel test was not accurate. You said the bows were 50 decibels. But decibel meters only read peak DBs, so the bows were actually making 80 decibels. The ambient noise of the room does not matter to the final peak reading. Other than that, great reviews!
Selter thank you. I’m curious though. Since the meter stated at around 30 and jumped to 80. If the room was dead quite and the meter was reading zero, would it jump to 50, or 80. I may have to do some playing around and see what I can find out.
Elk Calling Academy the meter would jump to 80, ambient noise does not affect the high readings, noise is similar to light. If you shine a dim flashlight at a wall and then shine a very bright light at that same spot. You will no longer see the dim light and only the brighter light. A good test to see if the ambient noise affects overall reading is to have two people, have one person make a consistent noise and then you make a louder noise, your DB meter will spike to the louder noise, then for the second reading have your friend make no noise and then you make the same louder noise and the reading will be the same.
Awesome review I have the 2018 prime logic stabilizer helps that vibration i think the ct5 will make a great 3d bow they tune easy i hope 2 get to shoot one soon thanks 4 the reveiw
Sylvio Del Vecchio I figured that vibration would be eliminated once someone out components on the bow. Thank you for watching and glad you enjoyed the video.
I bought the SR6 a few weeks ago as my second bow ever.. started on the Bowtech Carbon Icon.. I don't know a whole bunch about the other bows out there, but the SR6 is awesome so far. P.S. where can a guy purchase a hat and shirt like that?
Scott's Thoughts the SR6 is a good bow. I just liked the Prime a little better in this match up. The shirt and hat are available in the shop on the Elk Calling Academy Facebook page.
@@paaaatrika Well I'll be honest.. there really isn't a comparison.. the icon is a fine bow.. But yes once you shoot a "flagship" bow, there is just a better feel about it all around. If I had it to do over I would invest in a high end bow right off the bat.
@@paaaatrika I live in Canada so the bow shops are a bit more readily available. I think no matter what decision you end up making, you'll be happy with. You'd learn to love whichever bow you chose. Then you have a quality bow that will last as long as you want it to, just can focus on different components over time. Sights, rests etc.
@@ElkCallingAcademy Pretty sure your in the Performance setting. Ive shot it both ways and there is no dump into the back wall with the comfort setting. Your speeds also indicate the performance setting
The Bowtech IBO speeds are misleading. They rate the IBO with 40 grains on the string for the speed nocks. They then use the 40 grains against the IBO to get the higher rating.
i find it funny that my hoyt havoc and my brothers darton wrangler other than us shooting aluminum arrows and 20 years ago we shot the same speeds...all in the 270fps range..
i dont know the weight of the xx75's back then but xx75 in a 2216 at 29inches with giant knocks and 5 inch vanes i bet the weight wasnt that far off...no doubt the bows are faster today but myself was never or will i ever be concerned with arrow weight or speed...accuracy was and always was my concern no. 1 with bow quietness being second..this sport today has greatly changed..ive said it once and i will say it again..bowhunters of today dont want bows they want guns..thats what it about in todays age..archery to me was about hitting and missing...when 30 shooters on the line all shoot clean 300's and the x count is whats needed to determine a winner..thats a gun not a bow...especially with the mechanical releases of today..you let go of the string with something other thsn your fingers it isnt archery anymore to me...the sport has certainly evolved over the years but sometimes evolving doesnt always mean better..guys shooting at game at 70 and 80 yards or more? just use a crossbow which is a weapon that ruined archery forever and pope and young...just my 2 cents not that it matters..
termite122 I agree wholeheartedly with a lot of what you said. I started shooting a bow in 1984 and that was a recurve with fingers. I got into archery to get close to the game and still hold true to that today. I don’t care about speed just as you. For me, momentum and penetration coupled with accuracy are what’s important to me. Thank you for watching and commenting.
well said.. 1984 i was still in hig school and bowhunting was just in my blood..nothing else mattered with the exception of girls..my first several deer i shot with a recurve bow and im so glad i can say i did that..i shot a ton of competative archery over the years...won my home state championship twice and shot atlantic city many times..i shot freestyle limited which you know is fingers..very proud to say i did shoot 2 perfect 300 rounds also which is sumthing im very proud of..over time my devision got fewer and fewer shooters with the introduction of mechanical releases..when i finally stopped shooting was when there were 5 shooters in my division at a tournament and over 50 guys there to shoot in the freestyle division..just this year ive decided to start target shooting again starting with some 3d shoots and not that i love it but yes with my mechanical release..i guess if you cant beat em join em..thanx for responding back to me..
termite122 haha. I was in High School as well at time and sounds like we’re similar in age and thought process. I even shot my first compound instinctively and with fingers for a while before slowly adding sights and finally a release aid. I often think about going back to simplicity and hunting with a recurve or long bow. Perhaps one day I will. Best of luck to you on your return to competitive shooting.
May I ask why you used the ct5 over the ct3 the reason is am going to test run the bowtech sr6 and ct3 also the axel is longer on the ct5 just curious. Thanks for a good review on your opinion.👍
Well prime is 3 inches longer, for more apples to apples. The new reckoning vs the ct5 would be more fair. The sr6 against the CT3 would have been closer..... Be interesting to see what bows sounded like and felt like if dampening was equal..... For instance adding bowjax or limb savers to the limbs of the sr6 to match the one on the prime...... But considering the ct5 is more a 3d bow. And the sr6 is speed bow it Seemed to hold its own
Chance Terrill this was a match up that was asked for as stated early in the video. I personally would have chosen a Realm with a longer axle to axle that matched closer to the CT5. We do have a video coming up that matches the Realm SS with the CT3. And a match up of the RX3 with the Vertix.
@@ElkCallingAcademy ss vs ct3 should be good. Or ct3 vs realm x. But maybe put limb dampeners in realm x for even dampening? Either way those /that will be a good review
Chance Terrill thank you. The thing I’ve found all of this is that the gap between bow companies is very thin. There are a lot of great options out there.
@@ElkCallingAcademy to hear people talk you would think one bow brand (what ever their favorite is) will blow away the other..... I bet you could find a bow by every manufacture that would suit you do usually it gives down to little stiff in my case between traverse and realm x. In came down to I like to tinker with draw lengths and stuff so with the bowtech I can pay around with the cams more where as with mathews I'd have to buy separate mods and tophats and for me the bowtech felt better. But I'd be happy with the traverse too Or a ct3 or helix ultra or ritual 33 etc....
Chance Terrill haha! Exactly. That’s one thing I’m having a lot of fun with on this video series. It’s almost forcing me to shoot a lot of the different bows out there. I’m even going to do this same thing with the budget bows. Really interested to see how those shake out and compare to the flagship bows.
cody creager thank you. That’s a question that will vary from person to person I believe. A bow fits and shoots differently for each person someone may be more accurate for, while the other may be more accurate for me. Thanks for leaving a comment.
@@ElkCallingAcademy i guess "from the beginning" isn't fair to say, but the remarks about the handle are completely opinion based. the bowtech is also undeniably faster which you try to downplay. you also try to downplay the vibration of the prime. I dont mean to attack your review i just see some nuetrality that could be improved upon
gilbert adams thank you for responding. This Video is comparing two bows against each other. Anytime it’s a comparison, there are opinions of the person doing the comparing. I’m not saying that one bow is better than the other by any means as I’m fully aware that what people like and look for in a bow differ.
@@gilbertadams5657 I do not own a bow yet and looking for some ideas, I noticed the biased when he down played the speed and the vibration of the CT5. Moving on to the next video. I like the video of the kid that compared the Hoyt Helix and Bowtech SR6
