That’s a nice machine. I not convinced yet that the box wedge is all that great. If have perfect wood. Lots of waist. Your horizontal splitter definitely makes busting them huge rounds down nice. Hope you have a great weekend. Keep up the good work. 👍🏻👍🏻
Hi Dan! The box wedge, in my opinion is the cat’s meow. You can make so much wood so stinking fast. Yes the Axis produces less trash but is slow in comparison. If you wanta make some wood in a hurry, box wedge!
Great job Mike, wow that was huge wood. The one thing that scares me is if a wood round that big. Traveled back off wedge on return, and tipping back into controls. Yikes. Your controls look to be set back a good ways. Great video. Machines fast.
Hi! Running these monsters isn’t going to be the norm. While the machine “can” do it, doesn’t really mean it “should”, because of some of the things you mentioned plus some other concerns. It is fast. I love running it!
Great video I have an Easton made 2228 sharpen in the box wedge made a huge difference and I found that big rounds is just easier to noodle them. I find it more efficient than fighting a 4 foot diameter around the machine can do it. It’s just easier to noodle it.
You made a great point Dan! I am going to be in the market for a new splitter within the next year or so and I thought log lift was the most important feature! I’m beginning to realize that a log lift and big bulky machine is not that important to me. I still have to get the rounds on my trailer by myself so I will have to noodle them anyway. I’m liking the idea of an Ultra or similar smaller splitter that will be easy to store and move around without equipment. Those big machines definitely have their place and are awesome but not for every person’s situation. This would be a great machine to leave in one spot and get a conveyor to pair with it. Definitely a firewood production beast!
I would definitely had tried putting that big dude through the splitter also just cause 👍👍 , but would have been 1/3 or 1/4 those last ones . Cool vid Mike . Catch ya again.
I asked my log hauler to bring me small diameter logs. I just get overheated and exhausted handling the big rounds. But tree service wood is usually the big stuff. Enjoy The Journey - Cheers
Hi Bob! I’ve tried to train the tree service guys that I only want a specific range in diameter and length but they just keep bringing me ALL of it. So I’m not going to complain. Big ones are a struggle!
That was one big ole nasty round. I probably would’ve rolled that dude off in the creek. 😂 But you definitely got the machine that’ll split it up! Enjoyed it!!
Hey Mike, gotta love the 24d! I’m sure it’s probably too early to tell but I was wondering how does the fuel efficiency between the 24d and Axis compare?
The 24D is a fuel sipper. I typically run it about 2500 rpms, book says you can run it quite a bit higher. Running it at a lower RPM I’m sure helps with the fuel economy. The Axis at full throttle will run for 2 hours. No idea how long the diesel will run until empty…yet 🤣
Hi Allen! It’s not too much work to noodle but I had to see if it would do it. Now we know it can. We may never do that again 🤣. The axis would have split it but it probably wouldn’t have fit on the table. Would have been a struggle without noodling it in half first.
You know it’s a big nasty piece when you can spend 3/4 of a video spitting it. I hate trying to move those big ones around. You guys made it look easy tho! 😆Love that table. Gonna make me one. I’m gonna brag you up big time when I use it too!😁 Take care Mike!👍🏻
Hey Rod! Big Nasty! I have a whole pile of those size rounds just waiting for you 🤣. Gonna be a lot of noodling in my future. I need to rebuild that table. It is a KNL prototype that has passed initial testing. Can’t wait to see your table and your improvements!
Great splitter no doubt, but I'll stick with my Axis. I can wrestle those big rounds easier on it than that box wedge wrestle-mania mess. Been there done that which is precisely why I have the Axis. I don't want to have to have help to split huge rounds. Have fun at Brads' fellowship.
Hi Jeff! The axis is good for those big ones. I’m typically not going to be putting big rounds on the 24D, but I had to try once 🤣. Anything much over 20” probably needs noodled or put on the axis!
@@DanielAtkinsFirewood no, “sniff it out”. Like a crime dog. Anytime any of us put big rounds on our videos we know it will pop up in your suggested feed!
You will get better at reading it. Knotty big wood is a bear for any machine. If she gets caught in there on the pullback she will bend that arm. Ask me how i know. Better to rip them down with a saw first especially if you have someone less experienced running the machine. At least on the 22-28 it will.
FirewoodJim! No doubt if you get one squirrely in there it will bend the pull back arm pretty quickly. I’ve heard horror stories. No thanks. I’ll be noodling the big ones down. Like Andrew says, Just because it “can” go on the log splitter doesn’t mean it “should” go on the log splitter.
@@KNLFirewood I loaded 10 large Oak round in my trailer to bring home and those did me in. Yup I am old (almost 72) and maybe too many medical pill and some health issues
