We always start out teaching our students to be on their toes to help them develop balance, speed and also to help them prevent wrecking their knees until they've learned how to rotate on their feet when punching. Planting our feet throwing hard shots feels great though, not going to lie.

In the pocket, flat footed. On the outside, on the toes. Gotta blend both, thats what I tend to do for kickboxing Also noticed bigger guys tend to be flat footed so you gotta be on the toes when you're the smaller opponent

Something I may add is to immagine your feet as arpoons, and imagine rugby players when they push forward: if you set your self as a tripod with your stance, is better for your power shots and your balance. I'm middle-aged and a large man (started boxing late in life), I thought I'd be fighting like Floyd Mayweather, but in reality I'm more like Lenny Mclean 🤣 I started out fighting on my toes (as i was shown) but everyone was way faster than me so I got caught a lot. I now fight more flat footed and let people come to me more, I find i can see things coming a lot earlier that way so i have more time to react (I need it as i move like a glacier lol); I obviously spent a lot of time practicing on the inside; head movement and defence, but I also practice on my toes because deep inside i still hold out hope that one day i'll be more like Floyd LOL Great channel by the way, i've learnt so much from you!

Hey Tony, what are your thoughts on R-Handed Southpaws and L-Handed Orthodox fighters? I know there’s been a couple successful fighters over the years implement this style but I know when it comes to boxing it is generally the complete opposite of what would be taught. Hey Tony! First of all, great video on footwork in boxing. But I would like to suggest another comparison video, in case you haven't done one on the topic yet. I've been coming back to watching older fights recently, specifically Miguel Cotto and Oscar De La Hoya. Two things that's similar between them both of them are they're both left-handed, but they both use orthodox stances. If you haven't yet, could you do a video comparing the pros and cons of having your dominant hand as your lead hand vs your rear hand?

when i was doing my TKD i used to do both depending on what kick i was trying to do. but i have turned more to the flat footed more because of the power you get for them front kicks and roundhouse, and then get on my toes for the faster kicks and jumping kicks to mix it up to be more unpredictable.

When your flat footed you may have balance, power, stability, more energy convenient, but in boxing its not always about power but if you only have power but your slow its sooo bad, boxing is sooooo fast you could get hit more you can get countered and any boxer can just go to the side and deliver a liver blow have power and speed reaction and get hit less you get more power just naturally by the balance being flat footed you can have both by working on your power, speed will always be improved speed vs power is stupid its best to train for both while having power at the same time a boxer that has both of these qualities are way more dangerous
