It’s amazing how this isn’t common sense. Everyone just watches UFC and suddenly become experts on it and say the dumbest shit like “a boxer would never sleep an MMA fighter in a street fight” like my guy; it literally just depends on the fighter; all tools are useful as the other. One punch, one kick, one takedown, one of any of these is all it takes for a fight to be over
@idfan3143 that's true but everybody with some experience gotta tell you rule no1 is to stay on your feet in a street fight. Some coward gonna soccer kick you while you try to grabble your opponent, it happens all the time
@@JesRocWitMe don’t quote me on that, I’m going by a memory of him saying that and I don’t know where to find the clip necessarily . You are absolutely correct in the sense of being useful, as he credits practicing Taekwondo for his powerful kicks obviously. And, to clarify it wasn’t that he said they were trash, more that he was sorry he invested so much time in them early on, as BJJ and MMA hadn’t reached the popularity and accessibility back then that they enjoy today
@@andrewtregoningthat doesn’t meant squat though . I know a few people who are some savages but have no need or desire to compete. They simply do it for the love of the sport & self defense . You can have 1000 competitions and still lose to a guy who never competed.

Punching power is something you’re born with idgaf what anyone says professional or not some boxers just can’t hit hard enough to be able to keep someone off of them so as soon as it isn’t strict boxing rules they’re essentially fucked. Much of what boxers are taught defensively completely goes out the window when the other guy can kick, knee or take you down. As someone who has trained BJJ; I feel as a lot of people forget that BJJ is not fighting. If there are not strikes being thrown…you’re in a submission match, not a fight.
FINALLY ANOTHER PERSON GETS IT. People also shit talk Krav Maga saying it’s a bad martial art. BECAUSE ITS NOT. It teaches you to hit people in the balls and hit the bridge of the nose with your phone. You can’t compare the two because they aren’t the same thing. I also do bjj and would much rather be kicking somebody in the balls and running than getting myself on the ground for other people to use a weapon and hurt me
However in a real situation about 95% of fights end on the ground so either submission wrestling or bjj will work, of course like the video says it helps to know how to box. I did MMA which is closest thing to a real fight.
@@Italian_gooberthe reason Krav Maga is bad is because you can't do sparring with it, there's also nothing stopping a boxer or kickboxer with much better tuned reflexes from kicking in the groin or eye gouging when they also have a lot more fighting experience, same for jiu jitsu and wrestling, both can just get on top of you and turn you into a vegetable
No matter how good your BJJ is, you'd still have to: 1. Get close to your opponent without getting knocked out 2. Take him to the ground without getting knocked out 3. Get into an advantageous position without getting knocked out 4. Realize your opponent can STILL knock you the fuck out somewhere around steps 1 to 5
Eh you’re right in the first half but when on the ground you don’t have to worry about getting knocked out. When on the ground bjj has full advantage but getting the fight to the ground is the real challenge
It’s very simple honestly. You come in and as soon as he throws a punch you go for double leg takedown, mount and ground and pound, it’s pretty much wraps after that. Done it a couple times to ppl who don’t know how to wrestle.
@@Titan-so1kh I know it is possible to pull it out but your opponent could bend his knees to get lower and very beautifully give you an uppercut or an hook or simply step back. You moving right in into his punch. Better you should try to got behind him or on the side where his front leg is.
No single martial arts is gonna help you 1v4. Martial art is not for self defence, it's for confidence and health. Every 1v1 or 1v2 scenario van be talked out without violence and 1v3 or more you should just give your money or run
@@tonywackett326ima be honest with you, yes if you’re in a street setting and dude has his friends, deascilate. @mattball7074 factor in what, that multiple people will be involved. Think about that logically, if there are multiple people why would you try to take on to the ground and choke him out? That's not the only aspect of bjj, so you and the OP are a bit mistaken.
@@aarkproductions if you’re talking about the crème of the crop boxers yeah but in reality the average boxer isnt that good RELATIVE to the top boxers you see on tv. I worked at bars in university for 4 years. There the bouncers explained the 3 second rule: 99% of fights like OP describes last 3 seconds or less. It's not some prolonged altercation. It's vicious bash and dash. No one us rolling round on the ground. Also good luck shrimping and bridging and berimboling in a crowded bar where you have tables and peoples legs and walls surrounding you. You can barely move around on the ground because of the obstacles. BJJ guys certain they would kick ass in a bar are those skinny nerds you see in BJJ classes who never had anything close to a real fight ever. They do BJJ specifically to get to feel tough but *without fighting*
BJJ guys never take into account actually getting hit. They're used to being able to grab someone by the legs and not get punched in the back of the head, or take a knee to the face. BJJ guys' sparring sessions are very constrained and doesn't account for taking crazy hits like that.
@@JaredHettler I was referring to these BJJ guys and what I was trying to say is that you don't know who you're fighting. The dude you're fighting might have friends around, the second you end up on the ground trying to wrestle / grapple your opponent, his friends are gonna stomp your head

Cause it shouldn’t be fear stopping you and jiu jitstu is very important in the streets .
People need to stop this notion that boxing is useless in "a real fight". Boxing requires INSANE conditioning, reflexes, power, precision, speed, and aggression. These men are in supreme condition, and are literally trained to strike with the most powerful, precise, and effective punches that one can possibly throw in combination. Fighting a boxer in a street fight is a good way to get knocked unconscious fast. All they need to do is slip your first punch and land a hook and its lights out. They won't even break a sweat.
Yes a very good boxer who have some years of training is a killer indeed. But we all know the best are guys that can decently mix punchs, kicks, grappling, wrestling. Well MMA or sambo by exemple. Because they're not expert in one thing but can perfectly mix the whole thing. In real life you d'nt have the space, your not facing like in sparring, there is sucker punch it can come from the back with few space and you can't throw punch decently.
i feel like you need both to win street fights bjj may be gay, but pulling guard is actually really effective and there's nothing the boxer can do to prepare for that situation except practice bjj however as soon as you teach the boxer basic bjj, the bjj guy who doesn't box is screwed because now the boxer can get in his guard and maybe even pass it while throwing punches and not getting arm bared in half a second. unlike ufc, there's no ref to stop the between rounds, and you aren't on canvas you are likely on pavement, so you are going to just keep getting punched until you are unconsious so yea, i think martial arts should be treated as a sport, i don't get this obsession mma guys have with who would win in a street fight, but if someone is practicing them for self defense and street fights, I say do some muy thai just to learn to defend against elbows and kicks, wrestle to learn to sprawl and avoid takedowns, bjj just to learn how to fight in the guard, but most of all box so that when its all said and done and you know how to avoid all the gay shit like guard pulling and karate kicks/elbows (except wrestling, wrestling isn't gay all them suplexes and throws are cool), you are able to punch tf out of them while they try to rely on their "martial arts" to save them

And Being choke is efficient.
The biggest problem BJJ guys and wrestlers have is the inability to react well when you get punched really hard in the face. Or when you pull guard and next thing you know my elbow is smashing your face in. When you isolate grappling, it puts you in a very bad position because it gives you an unrealistic expectation that you can just grab someone without taking big damage while trying to
Exactly bro, bjj guys are to cocky. If we’re on concrete and you pull guard I can pick you up and slam you on concrete and like you said I can elbow you as well. If you come at me with your hands out trying to grab me then you’re literally leaving your face wide open to get hit. By the time you get within arms reach you’ll get hit 5-10 times in a few seconds. And even if you’re still conscious you’ll probably be out of it not knowing where you are. Also have fun rolling around on the ground when the guys friends come and football kick you in the head. I can only imagine what would have happened to people, particularly the grapplers, if he decided to go on the offensive. Much love to Ajarn Kham.
BJJ guys don't know just how slow they are on the feet. Some random drunk dude definitely doesn't know how to keep his hips away, so using that as an example of getting a takedown in a fight is pretty stupid. @@SN0WG00NSyeah coz rodtang fought his mma round against an absolute nobody, right? Oh maybe not, he fought one of the Best mma Fighters ever who is also a good grappler
Here though. The guy says "I could easily take down boxers", and Joe responds with "but what about Crawford, who can box AND wrestle!?" No shit, if they wrestle, they can't be taken down.
If youre grappling on the street, what stops the other guy from pulling a knife and planting it into you? Boxing gives you the distance to potentially run away, which is the best self defense tactic ever
Do you know how hard it would be to reach into your pocket and grab a weapon while getting choked, strangled or armbarred? Even if you did somehow manage the feat, you would struggle to plunge the weapon with the same velocity that you would whilst standing - so it would be a lot easier to grab that wrist tha it would if you were standing
Rogan is such a poster boy for bjj but I appreciate his balanced view of striking and he’s not wrong, a good wrestling base and fast hands is a lethal combo
Some people don't understand that most dudes who practice BJJ can't wrestle. You gotta take the fight to the ground for any BJJ training to be worth a damn.
@@DAVAND23That’s like saying most wrestlers can’t do judo. It always comes back to how that individual trains. Not everyone is training for “the streets”. Plus, the entire premise of jiu jitsu is for when or if you end up on the ground. It’s not like you can only grapple if that’s the sport you train in. Hit the mf!
@@J_L_A I did BJJ against someone who won European Championship silver, and this dude was insanely good in the ground. He was like a little monkey, super dexterious. I was very impressed. Judo is definitely a very impressive skill to have in a street fight - grab the jacket, slam you into the concrete - see you in the hospital brother. And they had a competition in Japan - to see which martial art becomes the official martial art of the Japanese police: Jiujitsu (Japanese Jiujitsu) or Judo. Judo won - pretty dominantly I think. But they had certain kinds of criteria for the competition, and the criteria were related to police work. But yeah - I think both are good in street fight - Japanese Jiujitsu, and Judo. But I don't think Brazilian Jiujitsu is good in street fight.
@@HtheKing BJJ is bad if the opponent has a knife. You don't want to be close in distance against someone who might have a knife. Also, BJJ doesn't allow you to run away, because you're on the ground hugging your opponent. Striking sports fix both these issues: you have distance to your opponent, and you have maximum opportunities to run away. Conclusion: BJJ is trash for self-defense.
I bet he doesn’t and would probably put you to sleep in a “street fight”. You literally don’t train if that’s what you think people with half a brain would do. There’s a lot of videos of BJJ guys fighting and yet outside of the UFC I don’t see any of them pulling guard. It’s almost as if they don’t do that in the real world situations 🤔
@@Urmomma5f4tBJJ "self defence videos" are 99% BS though. They are just BJJ guys actually acting like assholes. It's usually a verbal argument, not physical, between BJJ guy and someone clearly drunk or mentally ill, then the BJJ guy slaps on a chokehold without physical provocation. Anything will work of you do it do someone who isn't even attacking you and you hurt them first. Christ Aukido would probably work vs someone not doing anything. It's just a dick move by insecure BJJ asshats who want to try what they learned on a vulnerable person so they can see if the $250 a month they pay is worth anything. It's reeks of insecurity and bully boy tactics, and it's not reflective of actual fighting.
Absolutely. That's what people don't seem to understand. A wrestler beats a boxer 8/10 times in a ring or on a mat. But does that make wrestling a better form of self defense. Not necessarily. In reality you want to be able to both wrestle and box.
@@MarkWongMDbut he's not delusional about it, even though bjj is very effective on the ground, he knows that a BJJ guy will get his ass handed to him by a striker. BJJ is useless on it's own. Boxing isn't.
Wrong. I saw a guy put his hands up and get kicked in the gut and immediately went down. No hands were thrown. I've also seen people get choked out without ever throwing a ounch
who tf are you to say whether joe is right or wrong. he's a lifelong martial artist, done taekwondo and bjj, striking and grappling. commentates ufc too. he definitely knows what he's talking about.
@@user-do9ok7gq2i OK first of all relax. And I didn't say he was right or wrong. I said he made sense and it's the first time for me to see that. I will elaborate, so that you understand my point and calm down. Very often he comes across as a BJJ nutswinger, talking about it like it's some kind of bullet proof superpower, a trait only BJJ players seem to have. It's not a superpower and in this video he comes across way more balanced. And you don't know my background, therefore you are in no position to question whether I know what I'm talking about or not.
@@sp1r1tcrsh3r I don't need to be defended. It's a comments section under a RU-vid video, not the front lines dude. It's differing opinions, that's all.
Yeah. That's why he said Rhonda Rousey can beat male fighters. Ya know, right before she got her ass HANDED to her by Holly Holm, a female fighter who can't fight men. Not to mention what happened afterwards, with Amanda Nunes. That's was just a massacre. Joe also said that boxers are harmless compared to MMA guys, but he was so mortally terrified of Mike Tyson that he built a bigger table, so that Mike can't get to him before he escapes. I was like, why are you scared? You can just kick him in the leg and he'd be done. Joe doesn't know what he's talking about most of the time.
Most people that do bjj are lifetime hobbyists like myself. Yes Gordan Ryan will snap most humans in half but when it comes to the 99% of the every day man - a smack in the nose is going to really mess up the idea of bjj super power where they train with no concept of getting hit. It’s a great tool to have and know and it is a super power but violence is violent and random which really messes up your idea of what works
@@akaInfamoushave You ever seen what a glass bottle or a brick does to a human face? The moment You grab My buddy to choke him i'll break your skull and that's it The streets ain't a bjj gym where You behave like grandmas that smoke pot all day
You say “Have takedown defense” as if that’s such a easy thing to have. It will take you YEARS of training just to have the ability to not instantly go airborne within a second of stepping in arms reach of a Judo black belt.
@@fireandiron4181 "stepping in arms reach of a Judo black belt." A Kick boxer's main tool in tool in his arsenal is his reach. I've done judo myself and let me tell you judos aren't explosive what they are, are opportunity takers. If you even slip up for a moment it's wraps, but at the same time they lack what's essential and that's explosive power something wrestlers have. That is why imo you should focus on 1 primary martial art, while learning the basis of the others.
@@External_XS Judokas are like that against other Judokas who know the game. Go watch some videos of Judokas in street fights and watch people get dropped on their skulls within 5 seconds of the altercation happening. Matter of fact, spar with a black belt Judoka and tell him to not go easy on you.
"Go watch some videos of Judokas in street fights and watch people get dropped on their skulls within 5 seconds of the altercation happening. " Because those are people who aren't well versed in the art? I took judo for a year, and have spoke to black belts and have deduced that judo is mostly for closed environments or areas you know you can close the gap in. Judo is also more close ranged, as a striker I would never rush in. You would gauge the distance something that judoka isn't made for. Also why would I spar with a judoka this is a street fight scenario? If I'm sparring with one, I would be on their playing field. And it also depends on where we're fighting, If we're in a closed scenario the odds don't favor me as much. But if I'm in the open street, I'm very confident I can pull off the win.@@fireandiron4181
If you're a nerd who took up BJJ because you heard it was a 'superpower', and have never fought on hard ground against a good striker who really wants to hurt you... well I'm gonna suggest that won't go like you hoped.
Joe talking endlessly about "130 lb nerds in bjj being killers". I bet he made a lot of nerds get into bjj. And I bet he made a lot of nerds get stomped in a street fight because of it.
Yea probably, but thats their lives. I was taught from young that BJJ is a trap. Generally a fight is not going to be fair and the LAST THING ON EARTH you want to do.. is go to the ground. @@pupper5580
Every fight I've been in has started on my feet, and been quickly ended with some quick joint manipulation and then a slam. Just looked at tidbits of different martial arts, with Wing Chun mostly in mind for stand up fighting. I've really only used wing chun to get in position to break a finger, wrist, or elbow, not to strike all that much. Boxing seems incredibly mundane as an art itself, it's like a woman getting the barcode bangs haircut; even if she can pull it off, there's something else that would work much better for her.
Getting a quick 3 peace ,one to the nose eye and chin without gloves will make you reconsider trying to grab,it's amazing how many dudes back down once you hit them with a quick accurate jab without gloves in a fight ,it makes them realise the difference in speed and power.
@@totenfurwotan4478 facts ,the thing people that never ,sparred in boxing or any other form of striking and only did like bjj judo or wrestling think they are fast enough or have the skills to to slip punches and get to you, or think they can take the power from someone that knows the mechanics of throwing shots.
I know an 80 year old that spared with Ali. He can still F... people up. He trains and instructs every day. He took on 3 teen bullies and when the cops looked this white-haired old man and these 3 17-18 year old teens on the ground holding their faces they started laughing their **ses off. Bjj has its place, but not 3 v 1
Got my orange belt in Judo when I was 10, came second in a regional tournament, but never really felt confident fighting until I learned some basic boxing. There is no superpower martial art, you just gotta train hard and stay well rounded.
Gonna say this once and that’s it, if a Boxer lands a clean punch on you before you can kick or grapple him it’s over. One punch can change an entire fight
@scd881 the one that taught me that in street fights, there are no soft mats, no rules & that if you end up on the ground you can't retreat & it is almost certain that you will be kicked in the head (or chocked out by some BJJ nut case). You must ALWAYS stay on your feet.
Yup , so sumo it is ... What ? Boxers don't train against ground and pound ... Sumo guys lose if they go there , so they train to stand up ... And you're not pretending to stand up against one of them are you ?
