My friend Sherman asked me to go see this movie when it came out in 1995. He had just recently informed me that he was HIV+. I hadn't really known what this film was about prior to us going. When this scene came on he reached over and held my hand throughout the entire song. To this day, I can honestly say, without reservation, that it was one of the most meaningful, spiritual, emotional, brotherly and heartwarming events of my life. RIP Sherman...
This scene gives me chills, and the camera scans a room where all the friends are there. Camera scans again, but it's empty, other than Whoopi, the piano and empty wheelchair. There is this sadness that overcomes you. You knew what was inevitability it was going to happen. It is one of the most emotional and loving scenes of all time. And still is, as I wipe the tears away.
Tear jerker for sure. You never know who in this life will love and accept you for who you are but if you find it, treasure it, for it is a rare gem, indeed.
Mary Louise Parker is a Tony, Emmy and Golden Globe Winner I cant believe she has not been nominated for the Oscar. She deserved Oscar noms for Fried Green Tomatoes and Boys On The side!!
I love this movie. I'm not sure if I can seriously call it a perfect masterpiece, but this scene...this particular scene in this fine film is one of the most poignant, best directed scenes of all time. Whoopie is miraculous in it.
I just lost my best friend. She was in a wheelchair and died at 46 yrs old, a few days ago. This video totally describes my love and devotion to her. I love you Debbie, always
One of the best movies I've seen. I cry even knowing this scene is coming up. Great film to watch to purge any sadness you have - a good cry always makes you feel better!
This final scene is so piercingly sad, I can't help sensing some higher purpose to it than merely ending the story. It's as though the whole film before it were directed only to serve as context for this final scene; that merely by watching it and letting it affect us in its soft, quiet way we can become better people. It's that beautiful - and that painful!
Whoopi needs to get the heck off of The View - she is such an INCREDIBLE actress and I forget that when I am watching that show. I just can't overstate it - she breaks my heart in this movie.
One of those movies that tells it like it is. Saw this in a cinema in San Diego and when leaving there wasn't one person who wasn't crying after seeing it. Touching and deeply emotional and the cast was superb they don't write scripts like this anymore and the music was magic and perfect for the movie. A ten out of a ten in movies.
The move Boys on the side from 1995 still makes me cry my sister Whoopi Goldberg playd her part that is one of the best moves that i love.i lost a lot of friends from HIV/ADIS so good work.
Saw this movie when it was released by accident never forgot it. Told my now granddaughter about the movie. And then last week it showed on TV but only saw the end. Now I finally found this video. Really makes me think about friendship and this song sung by Whoopi really pulls your heart strings. Beautiful a must see movie
Seen this film years ago and loved it been trying to buy it for years but no where to be seen. Seen it on ebay last week and bought it. Just watch it and my god the part where whoopi goldberg sings anything you want absolutely brakes your heart.
I love love love this movie. I mean the irony of life and what you think you want versus the universe giving you what you actually need, whether you knew it or not. This movie is so beautiful. It shows how strong and necessary female friends are. It's a bond that is almost indescribable. Almost more intense and emotional than a romantic relationship.
this is my favorite movie of all time, i have seen it several times and this scene as well as several others always gets to me, whoopi goldberg, drew barrymore and mary louise parker all play fantastic roles in this film! the theatrical trailer for the movie is great too, but overall the movie is my favorite of all, it will leave you speechless and loving those closest to you even more!
I have never seen this film but god did I cry watching this scene. I will definatly be watching it now. It is clearly very moving. Just love Whoopie goldberg she is ace!!
"Everytime I look into your lovely eyes. I see a love that money just can't buy" So very true about friendship and love. Such a beautiful song and simply a wonderful movie Boys On The Side.
this movie is so pure and a mix of joy and sadness. Remember watching this when I was a kid and never forgot this scene. underrated movie and hard to get on dvd
I have no idea! I remember watching this with my cousins everytime we went to my grandmas--my aunt had it on vhs--I never got tired of it. A movie that really shows what true freindship is all about.
One of the most emotional scenes I've ever watched. So simple, yet there's so much love, so much sadness communicated with their eyes. I used to stop the video before it got to this part because I felt it was too heartbreaking to watch. Now I'm glad you uploaded it. Thanks.
I don’t know how this song and scene came to me today, but I’m so glad it’s here and available. 🥺🥺🥺😍😍😍 I fell in love with Whoopi’s voice before this movie I believe. The rasp and clarity all in one. 🤌🏾🤌🏾
My oldest friend passed away from cancer after being diagnosed 3 months prior one month prior my bulldog we adopted passed away in my arms He was so very loved I always loved this song but now I just cry He was so loved. And he always will be If you have a loved one turn to them and tell them how much you love them everyday
Yes I totally agree with you it is and it always reduces me to tears at the end of the film and I love how that turned a great song into a greater song :-)

I can't believe I had never seen this movie, I feel so blessed to have seen it now. What a moving story and great performances! And I've now found the song I will sing to my baby due later this year; it has hit a note with me like many others it seems
As a young girl I never got what was going on but this is one of my grandmothers favorite movies she is gone now but watching this today made her feel near
The first time I saw this I burst into tears. This scene and that song came out the year my father died. My parents supported me above and beyond what they should have. My dears, thank you and please, please rest in peace. 🙏🙏🙏🙏
I use to sing this song to my then newborn song every time I went to put him to sleep. Now he is 11 and every now and then he ask me to sing it and he sing certain parts with me. This song is always going to be special to me....this version right here! Thx Whoopi
