@@EllEff652 Bozo strikes me as more of a wine drinker than whisky. Since this video's old and he's in Chicago, I'm guessing either Night Train or Thunderbird. However, if he were to drink whisky, it'd likely be Jim Beam since it's more popular in the North. Jack Daniels is more popular in the South. Rumor had it Bozo's assistant Cooky would drink shots of Jim Beam before each taping.
My mom just told me today that she was on the show too when she was a kid! I had no idea. She said she was Bunky on Bozo. I think she said Bunky. They called her up and she said her name and then had to wear a special hat the whole show! I wish we had a picture. 😂
I was an 80's and 90's kid. Television shows were..."different" lol. From the startup of MTV, to the weird Canadian cartoons and sketches that Nickelodeon aired. I don't regret one minute of it. So weird, but I consider myself very lucky to have grown up in that time.
I lived in Illinois as a kid and grew up watching the Bozo show. And got to watch double dare & the legend of the hidden temple. And definitely enjoyed the early mtv shows like remote control & headbangers ball. I wouldn’t trade growing up in the 80’s or 90’s for anything!!
I was a D'Auria Bozo viewer, and I remember this one girl, who was pretty small, must have missed Bucket 1 four or five times before she finally got it.
@@glenbard07The D'Auria era was when I was watching as well. Wish they'd post some episodes up as WGN has the D'Auria era 100% intact in their archives.
I was on the show in 1976, and they picked the contestants by "Magic Arrows." The problem with that is that the arrows would often land on adults or babies, and they would have to keep spinning. That is probably why they changed to the "Bozoputer." It's probably not really a computer, as it looks like an analog display that someone is manually changing. They probably issue raffle tickets to the kids and draw tickets from a hat, then display whatever number they draw, and it's probably a computer like many other science fiction shows that had things that looked like computers.
Maybe not as nearly as much as you do and get away with it at your job. What are you an air traffic support controller hope not ever explain a lot of plane crashes.
I'm amazed at how many of you posters think Bozo is drunk in this clip. I can assure you that he is NOT DRUNK!!!! This is how the actor, Bob Bell, portrayed the character. He always had a gravely type of voice. In fact, when he first started playing the character, his voice was much higher. Plus he wore a red suit in the first decade of the shows existence. If you remember hearing a much more cheerful Bozo growing up watching the show on WGN, you're thinking of Joey D'Auria playing Bozo. This was one of the last few tapings in Bob Bell portrayed the character. The set you are seeing premiered in early 1984. Bob Bell retired April 4th of that year. Why did he retire? He played the character for 23 years and was part of the WGN Staff even longer. He also did early morning Staff Announcements before he would get into his Bozo character. He worked hard at his job and always gave it 100%, especially as Bozo. He was not fired. He was NEVER intoxicated while as the Bozo character. He simply retired, and it was a well deserved retirement.
I was just saying I’m 33 an grew up watching the bozo show every weekend totally didn’t realize until now just how wasted bozo was on a regular basis the show was on once a week lol I mean how many shows were they taping daily? Totally awesome job tho I mean he got payed to be a drunk high ass a kite crazy ass clown on a kids show on tv lol #goals
@@rayjeanfrench8658 You are referring to The Bozo Super Sunday Show which aired from 1994 until 2001. That was another actor playing Bozo, Joey D'Auria. This is the original actor who played the character, Bob Bell, shortly before he retired in 1984.
Bozo suddenly became funny again. In fact I dont think I ever laughed as much when I was a kid watching this as I am right now fr it's hard to hit the keys. That first stumble with the words was epic. I wonder if like every single parent in there was looking around at each other what that is it just me or does everyone else think he's faced too? 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂 I gotta watch it again 😂😂😂😂
He's seemed pretty happy & focused for someone doing a children's show, betcha secretly the kids knew Bozo reeked from grandpa's cough syrup😅 but didn't care as long as they were in the show
Appreciate the memories thanks to bozo and cookie always enjoyed watching you on tv or my cell phone RIP cookie and bozo job well done you should be proud after all these years thanks for a good laugh and the memories. Joe
I wonder how the at home player would have been able to see the Cubs game since she lived in Kentucky. Did they include air fare and lodging in Chicago as well? How about the birthday party?
@@chrissmith3668 That's how many fans who didn't live in Chicago became Cubs fans, by watching them on the WGN Suoerstation on their cable boxes. I find it interesting that it didn't have the same effect for the Atlanta Braves when they were seen on TBS for many years, considering that TBS had a was a superstition longer than WGN. Of course, the Braves didn't have a flashy ballpark like Wrigley Field. Also, they didn't have a colorful personality calling the games like Harry Caray. However, they did have his son, Skip Carey call Braves games.
I will never get old without you both so and Rain Rainier and Garfield goose and cuddly Dudley and Travis in the dark how I miss those days I love all of you
Like everyone else said...... I never remember Bozo being loaded either I grew up in northern Indiana, so Chicago wasn't that far away.....all the begging in the world never got them to get us tickets to a show!
I was a kid in the crowd around 1979 or 1980, they specifically told us *not* to stand up for the magic arrows, but I still did anyway. I really wanted to play those buckets! heh
I was picked in 1968. I was 6 years old and it was my Birthday. Bozo spun around and up into the crowd and fell on my lap. I have wanted that particular show. It was April 22, 1968. Of anyone has this Day. There could have been more then 1 show taped but. We watched it on TV, 2 weeks later. My 4 siblings and my parents. I remember the hat kept falling off my head. That's when it was Butch for the day or Belinda, I think. But he is creepy now when I see him. I remember sitting on his lap too. Ugh...
WGN unfortunately regularly recycled all of their television show tapes until about 1984. There's only one episode from the 60s in total available online. It will likely live on as a good memory!
Sadly,Bob Bell died a tragic death. He was found dismembered, his arms were in one room, his legs were in another, and his balls were in bucket number six.
This is Bob Bell ,as Chicago Bozo here for all of you wanting to know who is playing Bozo on this segment.Joey D' Auria would take over the role as bozo after Bob Bells retirement, this includes the Bozo Show as well as The Bozo Super Sunday Show.
@@BrianRetro Oh ,well thanks for correcting me .I should have read Bob Bells biography online a little more to get more details on his death an retirement.
@@nicholasmardis9846 It's okay. As a native Chicagoan and huge fan of the show, I read countless articles and books all about the show as well as the life of Bob Bell, Frazier Thomas, Ray Rayner and many other performers for their work on WGN Children's Television. So whenever I see someone post something about someone that I know is false, I have to correct them. Nothing personal. I just like it being correct.
This should be a required video for all congressmen and women to watch. Kids didnt understand what was going on with bozo because they were innocent and too young to understand ADULT SITUATIONS.
