For a long time, the Class 15 Preservation Society, based at the East Lancashire Railway, has been engaged in a project to restore the only surviving class 15 diesel loco D8233 to working order.
Saturday 19th June 2010 marked a glorious milestone in progress, when D8233's sixteen cylindered Paxman 16YHXL engine was started up for the first time. These clips show the final checks being made, before the engine springs to life; loads of static thrash and clag ensured that the startup was a great success. Although there is still a long way to go before restoration is completed, the loco is making sound progress.
