As a veteran this song really hits home. I have seen some of the strongest men you will ever meet broken in an instant by situations like this.

The saddest part is that these soldier are able to survive the horror of what they go through by hanging onto the hope of reuniting with the ones they love. To be betrayed has to be devastating.

This same thing happened to my son when he got back from Iraq. Besides his wife seeing someone else, she'd emptied out their bank account, so he didn't even have money to move out. He moved in with us and his heart was more than broken. I can't understand how she could do something that low.

My fiancé went to Vietnam for a year in 1967 and we were married 2 weeks after he came home in 1968! ON August 17, 2020 we will be married 52 years! I love my husband more than life itself! God has blessed us!

I love that you showed your heart here. When my daddy went into the AirForce he was engaged and she sent him a dear john letter. It shattered him. He met my mama, heartbroken and away from home. She talked him through so much hurt. They fell in love and had four children. They were married for 68 years and they were in love and loyal the entire time. My daddy died two years ago and I will always remember that good things can grow out of painful situations.

I have 3 sons serving ( all combat SF). This hits my heart. Soldiers know what they are signed up for. Bless all veterans, serving and lost, and their families. Doc instead of being sad for them, STAND for all still representing their fallen brethren.

This song has always made me cry. I remember when it came out. An x and I talked about it and he sent it to me when he tired to OD when we split. Thank God Mom is a nurse and he's ok.

Army vet here, 6 deployments I personally know how it feels. Every time I came home I was alone and had to catch a ride from a battle and his family. Now I had 2 great cars with no issues and good papers, I also had 3 kids and a spouse. She just didn't want to drive the 2 miles across base. She did end up having another everytime I left. It's hard and devastating. I was injured doing my duty and spent 8 months in Germany for surgeries, not a call. At home I spent 22.5 months in a wheelchair and in physical therapy, no help from her, not to recovery, therapy, in and out of a vehicle or my clothing. But I got it done soldiers never quit. That was 11 years ago I was injured. Now 2020 I have my kids a new spouse and 100% use of my legs with no help. If I can go from a damaged spine get the damaged fixed and hear doctors tell me I have a 32% chance of walking again the at home issues I mentioned I can do anything and this is a huge thing right now in the military unsupportive spouses, cheating, and divorce.

The ending isn't what could have been, it's them finding each other in the afterlife, and realizing that love is stronger than sorrow. It was them finding the error of their ways, and coming together in forgiveness to rest peacefully together, knowing they have both grown from their pain.

First of all, Ohio State!!! Woot! Woot! Woot! We are a military family. My husband was a lifer ( twenty years). I was a WAF but it was back in the days when, if a woman became pregnant, we were immediately discharged. We got married in June and by November I was out. We both are Viet Nam Vets and we saw some heart-wrenching situations. "Dear John" letters flowed like water and young hearts broke left and right. "Whiskey Lullaby" is probably one of the most played songs in NCO Clubs on every base. ( That and "Leaving On A Jet Plane") Thank you for bringing attention to this.

You got Alison's name right on the first try. Some of us have spent most of our life trying to forget and the smallest thing brings it back and we start over from the start. Some of us learn just like this guy that once you find them like that to walk away because they are not worth going to jail for let them go and move on and you'll never trust anyone again after this happens to you. We also live with the fear of losing control and harming our self or someone else. Volunteer to help vet's they really need someone to listen or just be there because just talking about it hurts. Remembering hurts. And the sleepless nights go on for ever. To come home and find the one who's Memory kept you going and find them with someone else is just as bad as the war was only it takes your heart and leaves you dead inside. 40 rounds.

Everyone has songs they remember the exact moment they heard it, this is one of those songs for me. I was a kid and I remember what and where I was and it is still as sad as it ever was.

Though he wasn't in the military, we buried my nephew in his thirties because he never got over his ex cheating on him. He also drank himself to death. He was an intelligent young man with a college degree, but he couldn't get passed the loss. If you find yourself in a similar situation, talk to someone that can help you to get through it! Peace!!☮

5 and a half years ago my god father lost the love of his life and a few short months later drank himself into a heart attack. During this time i was staying with him and i kept asking him to get help but he wouldn't. I was also a heavy drinker at this time. When he passed away from basically heart break it struck me hard. I considered him a father. After the day he passed i vowed to become sober. September 24 2020 i was officially 5 years sober. I never wanna go through that pain again. This song reminds me of that.

As a military wife, I have a hard time feeling all that much sympathy for her. Loyalty is a daily choice - especially during deployments.

Fun Facts: The main male character is Rick Schroder, from the show “Silver Spoons”. He directed this video. The little girl at the end is his daughter, Cambrie Schroder.

I've lived next to a major Marine Corps base my entire life, and we've known a lot of marines that come back to this situation. None of them took it this far thankfully, but it's absolutely devastating. The couples that have made it through a deployment are some of the most beautiful couples. One WW2 veteran we knew lived to celebrate their 60th anniversary and that was really something. I really empathize with the guy in the song. There have been times when I felt like I wasn't living my life, I was just waiting to die and getting impatient.

Hard to believe this video is around 20 yrs old. When it came out I was either going through a divorce for the same reason. Had to go through it cold turkey. I didn't drink or do drugs to find a way to take my mind off of it. We were married 22 years and had 4 children. The 2 youngest were boys and I had to raise them alone. Now you talking about how hard it was to keep it together, I wouldn't wish those days on anyone. When I hear this those memories come flooding back. The pain is easier but it still hurts. Doing much better now, but haven't had a relationship since, and now that I'm old I can't see me having another one. This is a deep dark video and matches reality very well.

I've been through something similar...caught my ex cheating on me ....had been for 6months at that time...and I took to drinks and was finding it hard to stop the alcohol....gained a lot of weight too...but now I've lost 60+ pounds in last 7 months and haven't had a drink in more than a year.

I was married for 13 of the 18 years I was in the military (still married, 20 years), luckily we lasted through my deployments. Unfortunately, I knew way too many that this happened to. Usually though, the cheating spouse cared very little, or did their very best to take the service member for everything that they were worth. There is a reason that there are cadences that talk about how "Jodi got your girl".

My husband was wounded 14 times as a Doctor in Afghanistan and Iraq and when you said “these people have seen some terrible things” you aren’t joking. I have been with this man for 13 years and he has never once had a night sleep, not a nap without nightmares. There’s an extra survivor guilt that is carried with the people who are the last chance for the survival of their brothers and sisters in arms and even the people of the nation they are in who they treat. ❤

I have never been deployed. But my soon to be ex husband couldn’t even handle my 30 weeks from BTC and AIT, he moved another female into our home two weeks after I shipped. It’s not always females that cheat on service members.

The ending is the best part, because it shows, no matter how badly you messed up, you will find your one true love again in the next life, I too, hope I see my love again, because I lost my fiance on 7/16/2017.
