Jonah Hill was a key player in this movie. Honestly... his performance sets the entire tone and underlying theme to the movie. Makes me smile to hear him speak so humbly about his confidence in contrast to the performance he gave... just an amazing actor.
Jonah Hill is a fine actor. This Peter Brand character, as well as his acting in "The Wolf of Wall Street" and especially "Don't Worry, He Won't Get Far on Foot" are all such fantastic and skillful performances.
@@aaronaaron5968 , the role of Peter Brandt may have not taken much acting skill but Hill does a fantastic job in his role. One that w/o him doing his personal research on the sabermetrics by Bill James, we're not sitting here giving him his due.
I couldn't care less about baseball or statistics, but I love this movie and I know several other people who feel the same way. A beautiful film because it has a great story.
I like this video. Brad is (as usual) very laid back and humble. Jonah is still "newish", (he's amazing and doesn't seem to get it yet). They are all respectful, and wonderful. Overall a wonderful experience with kind articulate people. A rare treasure these days.
Misfits bias part is what makes this a great film, and story. I have seen this mentality playout in so many industries and organizations that I have been a part of. But really only baseball and its condensed to season with tons of statistics could really spotlight this unfortunate aspect.
actors are actors. I am a Baseball fan. the 2 characters portrayed changed the game and, deserving hall of fame status. Today the game is a hybrid of the original... but, they did change the game. ... profit-sharing helped too, a bit. but if you are in the mood for a sports movie... this is a good one.
Miller like Mark Romanek are a few of the industry’s MOST under rated Directors. Bennett is a stunning director with a massive vision & works so hard at getting the story across to an audience. He’s brilliant & BRAD .. .well he holds his own no matter what he does. This film is what Levinson did for baseball & audiences who loved the GAME - with Robert Redford in the 80’s. MoneyBall will be seen as one of the greats years from now as much as it has been loved by many to this day.
facts my guy. as a 2x award winning screenwriter, Bennett Miller has been in my top five favorite filmmakers since the 2010's. Him Kubrick (and a dash of Polanski) wield the most creative influence over me when I'm writing my features (oddly enough I've never directed anything lol.) Nice to see someone put respect on Bennett Miller's name!
Bennet is a savant - by which I mean he's obsessive - there's a word for it, that eludes me now vis this insistence to make a unifying theory of everything, its almost Eastern, mystical. That in a grain of sand you can diagnose the failure of a marriage.
Miller makes so few films: four films in twenty years, and one was a documentary. No credits since 2014! Apparently he’s been working on a documentary about AI for several years. Incredible.
My favorite film - it says so much about people and common perceptions (that can be wrong) as well as sports. A totally original, beautifully made, truly amazing movie.
"you're worth your weight in gold son" I have never had a better compliment. At the time I just accepted it and continued with my day. But looking back... Wow, thank you.
To anyone who disagrees with Brad Pitt is possibly the greatest actor in the last 30 years should just watch “Snatch”. He plays an Irish Pikey (Gypsy) and is absolutely phenomenal.
@@swanningabout What is a traveller? He plays an Irish Gypsy as Steve mentioned above. Never heard the term traveller for Brad Pitt's role in that movie.
Philip Seymour Hoffman was SO EXTRAORDINARY, he was like a REAL guy thrown into this film with actors, it was just so natural and human, like it wasn't even a performance even though it obviously is. He got so good at acting, such a fucking mastery, so tragic.
Charlie Rose is an American treasure. I have yet to start watching one of his interviews and not only finished them, he leaves me wanting more. I keep looking at the red line and I never want them to end. Fantastic at his craft.
Moneyball is based on a true story, and Draft Day is fiction loosely based on football teams from that time, but its really good. Great acting & story telling. I love both movies
@@walterward3811 lol yea. when i watch it i find myself rooting for all the characters. I don't know why its not talked about more. Its also fun to watch Kevin Costner and the other gm's talk trades like the jerks would in your fantasy league 😂 its so good
I had a season ticket to the NY Mets from 1981-82 and went to 75 games in 1980, as well as many in 1983-84. I never even heard the name Billy Beane, Darryl Strawberry was the hyped rookie, and the Mets were so loaded that making the roster would have been news, but Beane was never thought to be anything more than a promising young player.
To me, Jonah's character was THE most intriguing in the movie and he played that character beautifully. Because of that, I really wasn't very interested in hearing much from Brad Pitt or the director during this interview. I just kept fast forwarding through to hear Jonah speak. Not that Pitt wasn't great in his character . . . he was. Just loved the character Jonah played. Great movie!
this movie has got me inspired to look up who the team is and i was definaltely just drawn in to learn more about this amazing story. jonah and brad both great actors
I almost went to bed after Better Call Saul, but i looked up and saw Johnny Damon and thought to myself- no way, Moneyball, and had to stay up and watch it. And Charlie Rose was prescient about his idea of storytelling. With Hulu, Netflix, and all these other platforms, there's all these new different types of movies and series that are being made that are fantastic.
What has our world become? Our actors and comedians - even our sporting figures - are thoughtful, reasoned, respectful. Whilst our politicians are deceitful, haranguing, unconvincing. Obviously the pressures and responsibilities are different but the contrast seems to be getting more and more stark.
It didn't 'become' - Athens was riddled with the same chaos; its the human condition. Aristotle wrote about it - create incentives to amass a certain kind of power and control over what amounts to continents and you select for the psychopathic. Most people like Diogenese just want to see the sun - Alexander wants to conquer the world. The Alexanders, like the Trumps and the Hitlers and the Mao's have and will always remain functionally demented. Think about about, how many people do you know who want to control 300 million people? Sure they'll couch it as 'serving' the people - but who can 'serve' 300 million people?
No, in my lifetime (I am 72). It used to be much better. People were kind, honest, and the news media was not driven by commercialization and money, money money like it is now. But I remember it used to be much much better. People could buy homes, affordably, cars, affordably boats and everything else, people were making more money in their jobs. It was everything was simpler back in the day… if I could go back, I would!
This movie took me back to my days of playing softball against the Marines while attending Weather Forecasting School at Chanute AFB, just south of Chicago. I was an Air Force Staff Sargent and we had a huge advantage in number and talent. The Corps had a small team of the best attitude of "Charlie Hustle"! Every contact with the ball they flew down the line to first! Every hit, it was like Pete Rose taking a base! Love the movie, made me see that some play, for the love of the game, not just the paycheck!
It's one of those movies you come across when you're channel surfing and you end up watching the rest of the movie......I usually catch it 2 or 3 times a year when it's on
For me this movie although I heard of it I never got around to watching it then one day I finally did. It was fantastic easily one of the best movies I seen in quite a while or course I bought it.
The most important part of the film is that this is 100% reality...this actually happened...the truth is stranger than fiction. If it were fiction, it would just be an ordinary film that I would only watch one time and then forget about it.
Ehhhh ... not 100% reality. Some details were fudged/flubbed to make Beane and sabermetrics appear more pivotally important than perhaps they may have been. But most of the major details were valid.
I liked this movie when I saw it a few years ago, but to be honest, I completely forgot that Brad Pitt was in it. I don't know if I could have named Jonah Hill either. Two talented actors in a movie where the real star is math. :)
Keep in mind that Billy Beane came up through the fine Dodger Blue system. I used to watch Billy Beane play for the Albuquerque Dukes back in the 90s. Sweet AAA beisbol!
I swear, every Charlie Rose interview I have seen he is constantly interrupting or changing the topic while one of the guests are answering a question. Especially when the guests start talking more to each other than him, it's like he can't handle it if the attention in the room isn't aimed towards him.
Couldn't agree more. Charlie needs to ask the question & then shut up and let the guest answer. I finally quit watching his show & it was ONLY for this reason. It became too frustrating to watch him interrupt to no end.
I love this entire interview. So interesting to see Leo sir in such a riveting interview with Scorsese sir too. Rose sir enlightened us all. Thanks for your time.😇☝️
Its so classic that Sony didn't like it - precisely what you'd expect. They typify the heart of the story - paying attention to the wrong numbers "who cares about baseball?!".
This comment is three years after the fact, but 3 amazing individuals who did an incredible job to make this possible. I really enjoyed this movie and seeing this made it even better. 🙏
I think most married men have to come to the deciding point that Brad acknowledged - - - Spend TIME with my Children & family or - - - I have watched over 40 + years as many of my friends & fellow-workers have given up TIME with their children for TIME with their obsession / talent / occupation / etc. . . only to painfully regret it in their 60's, 70's or 80's (1 Timothy 3)
Red Sox got eight straight right now sir - all these players got second chances - cheaper but just as good together - rare an extraordinary situation - what a shame -
42:55 We all get type-cast in life, let alone in this context. Think that’s partly why I always preferred writing as it allows much more freedom to create material for all sorts of genres that might appeal to different ages...Far less nasty media scrutiny too 😖
Why does every American interviewer cut off the guests? It's so annoying. At 12:50, the director Michael has just shared some very thoughtful insights, yet the interviewer Rose does not even acknowledge it and immediately jumps in by quoting Brad on same topic. Perhaps I am reading to much into things, but to me, Brad looked affronted as if Rose just dismissed what Michael had to say. Why did Rose do that? It was really rude.
Hey brad and Jonah are good guys and especially Charles Russe is especially for good for taking Jonah on with brad. Jonah is humbling guy man he needs to be in more movies.
Most of the time , I wish I could see good movies like this, thats why I keep coming back and watch movies like this. I wish they gonna make the movei about the book, The Premonition, after the Covid 19 virus have gone away.
Adds to their intellectual skill set. Elevates their craft. Allows for an educated conversation on the art they create. These conversations are only for the people who care about the details of the details. In short, Charlie Rose is the man.
