I'm not a big baseball fan, but this became one of my favorites movies immediately. Just fantastic storytelling. Brad Pitt and the whole cast were just great.
Speaking for myself, I'm not a baseball fan at all, nor am I a fan of just about any professional, or even generic spectator sport (say, even at the university level -- I see university spectator sports are part of the crippling way we are turning higher education into a business, making it generally much more expensive, etc., but that's a whole other discussion). Indeed, I have a mental list of ways professional sports are unarguably detrimental to society, in many ways unacknowledged by most, especially by stupidly enraptured fans. I hold professional sports to be an almost complete waste of time. With all that said, after seeing several clips of Moneyball, right here on RU-vid, I had to buy it and watch the entire story. What I liked about it, what really grabbed me, was how Billy Beane and Pete effectively used very focused information and knowledge to implement an astounding, completely unexpected result in a completely unfavorable situation ("... then there's fifty feet of crap, and below that there's us"; jeez, talk about a disadvantage!). Pitt and Hill's superb acting were key, too, or certainly the RU-vid videos wouldn't have made the impression. Someone told me this film provided Hill a breakout, or perhaps better a "step-up," role in the development of his career.
Anne Thompson is a very skilled interviewer. She knows when to move the interview along to another topic and when to stay out of the way and let the person(s) she is interviewing run with an idea, theme or topic. Great job.
@@raygordonteacheschess5501 he is privileged because he worked hard for years to become the actor he is. You can certainly put those two words in a sentence when Brad Pitt is some nepo baby, a child of producer of something.
He's a nice person but as a fan of the A's he has destroyed another "Moneyball" opportunity by getting rid of all of our favorite players in 2014. You can argue Wolff but it's all BS he could have fought for them. 7 fucking all stars!!! C'mon. I really do hope he has another Moneyball season and they really show this year especially with Semien and Davis.. Fingers crossed
What a great interview. Great questions Ms. Thompson. You allowed them both to speak their minds and gave them thought provoking questions. Nice tone of interview which made me feel I was in the room.
Brad Pitt has achieved the status of being loved and respected by men and women, respectively. Other actors like Paul Newman, Bronson, Moore etc.... are few and far between.
The questions you ask in your interviews are very thoughtful. They make me feel differently about certain mainstream actors such as Brad. Not that I never liked him or didn't think he was a good actor, but the questions made me want to listen more to what he has to say/see a different side. Because normally the light is on someone like him so I'm more apt to listen to someone who rarely gets to speak. People are more likely to ask someone like him very superficial questions anyway but you don't.
Inspiring movie! Great interview! It's also amazing how much trouble the movie encountered in the making but it got made and gathered many praises and critical acclaims. I admire Brad's persistence and respect of filmmaking. With WWZ he also encountered some major difficulties but he managed to make it a decent movie too, despite low expectations. Props to him! btw, it's already said million times but want to say again: Brad is so gorgeous!
Great conversation. Insightful. What I loved about movie was the appreciation and thought process of baseball. I find many people today don't appreciate the thought process of the game.
one of my all-time favourite movies. Imagine if a Hollywood producer tells you, "Hey screenwriter, write me a movie story." And goes on to put in several caveats: (1) There will be no bad antagonist in the movie; (2) Nobody tries to kill or hurt someone; (3) The hero will never in physical danger; and (4) The protagonist will lose at the end of the movie. Yep, that is Moneyball, the movie.
I’m a girl and I watch this movie every time it comes on! The fact that Pitt was in it didn’t hurt at all…he is so believable in every part he’s ever taken. But Phillip Seymour Hoffman was probably the greatest character actor of our generation. He could make the smallest part memorable as he did in this movie. As for Jonah Hill’s performance, I go back and rerun his opening scene every time. He has a great future in this entertaining medium!
Well done from top to bottom. Sound quality and picture were a bit thin but it works. Nicely done Brad is a pro actor, Billy Beane a consummate pro baseball mind, excellent story and fantastic film. Thanks for the video
It’s definitely not at all a well set up interview. Obviously no mic’s were used, camera wasn’t set up right, framing is bizarre, but the interviewer asked a lot of awesome questions and Brad and Billy have some legit chemistry
Very interesting dynamics between Brad and Billy...Young men should take heed at the confidence these two men exude... Not imitative, more about being confident about who you are. Was just watching the movie, well actually, I have it up in another tab...I'm at the part where the characters are informing the players about what their play should be like; the beginning of the turnaround... This interview is just as entertaining.
This movie deserve Academy Award, this is one of my all time favorite of an real life to the screen, Brad is an Genius in his own right, I believe he will eclipse Mr. Eastwood when he turns 90 with an list of great movies that have not been made. 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟
The first rule of Moneyball is You don't talk about Moneyball (sorry, I couldn't help Myself) In trade..a member of the Oakland A's HAS a name. His name was Carlos Pena.
One of my favorite movies..to see how a man chooses a very risky path..somewhat forced on him because of budget, to change the way an industry operates in making decisions...thinking outside the box. And on paper this should work ..but in reality will it have success...and then having the guts to carry out the plan when the progress to succeed is slow or complications arrise...and when success happens , not to be compromised by money....how could you not love this story...
Not my favorite professional sport, but with movies like Moneyball, Field of Dreams, The Natural, A League of Their Own, Sandlot, 42, etc... hard to hate something that inspires such amazing storytelling.
As much as I admire both these guys, I can't help thinking that it's easier to make decisions based on something other the money when the count is always in millions.
The Oakland A's do have the best system throughout and they do it on a shoestring and they have been doing it for decades. I cannot imagine what would happen if baseball ever went to a system like every other major league sport. Oakland would shoot to the top and stay there. They would dominate and would be able to keep their home grown talent. The issue is, there are just so few really large markets to draw on and it does hurt the small market teams ability to compete without being pilfered right after a break out season. That is what is wrong with baseball and why the chances of a small market team winning a championship is a long shot. Doesn't happen that way in any other sport.
just saw the movie last night.- great movie! and wow, the casting directors did a great job with the younger billy brane! he really does look like the real billy beane!!!
It wasn't necessarily about money if you read the books and watched the movie it was about finding the right players that can play as a equivalent as a single superstar by judging these players by the runs they score and the times they get on base but these players were all worth nothing and this was a way for small market teams like the a's
Hey seen a lot of Brad’s movies I count this as his best so far! This is a story about looking at what we have come to know and making it better in an entirely new way. But now it’s up to agents to earn their keep!
+TheHaloRed not only did he trade cespedes, he trades him for jon lester who BECAME A FREE AGENT right after smh. First place the whole year and ended up losing the wildcard
Magnificent movie and everyone involved did a great job...Jonah and Brad really gave great performances...Every business owner or top level exec has two books they MUST READ, STUDY DEVOUR AND INTERNALIZE; Machiavelli's the Prince and Sun Tsu The Art of War.... Although the prince was modified by the Vatican before it's release in the late 16th century Post Machiavelli's death...
i assume the book is pro analytics, which I would argue is just as big a problem. Theres a lot of love given to OBP and advanced metrics but thats lead to some pretty mediocre teams recently.
@@dash4800 I think the heavy use of analytics and it’s success genuinely depend on the sport. Like baseball, in my opinion, counts more towards analytics then football
I'm not big on celebrity worship or anything, real don't care about it at all, but Brad Pitt I like, just seems super cool and laid back, smart, kind, cool dude..
Was there a real Pete, and could he ever be tracked down for an interview? I’d love to hear his perspective on how this all went down, and what he is doing today.
I mean they had a different ownership group in the late 80s early 90s when they challenged for titles and had one of the highest payrolls in baseball. They effectively turned into the Rays after having a payroll like the Angels
Ah man. Sitting next to Brad and you get a booger for the entirety of the interview!... Surprised Brad didn’t see about a clearly more sensible angle for the camera from the get-go.
