In 2006, the Patriots were trying to swing another trade for offensive talent, even before they traded Deion Branch to Seattle. They tride trading for Donte Stallworth in New Orleans who wound up getting traded to Philly. He signed with New England in 2007. After that, they tried to trade for Visanthe Shiancoe, who was the #2 TE for the Giants back in 2006. They tried to sign him as a Free Agent in 2007 but lost out on bidding, and he signed with Minnesota. Neither Stallworth or Shiancoe were World-Beaters in terms of skills talent, but the 2006 Patriots had the 3rd worst Receiver Group in the NFL. Shiancoe or Stallworth would've been more than enough to put that Offense over the top and beat Indianapolis in the 2006 AFC Championship Game.

One of the great fallacies of the 2005 Steelers is what a tough road they had to the Super Bowl. Yes, they were the first 6 seed to ever make it. But they beat Kitna and Plummer sandwiched around a very distracted Colts team, and guess who they DIDN’T have to play? That’s right, these Patriots that absolutely OWNED them. In fact, Pittsburgh made 3 Super Bowls simply by avoiding New England and no one ever acknowledges that fact. This game was proof that New England was still in Pittsburgh’s heads and I believe it would have played out the same way had they met in January that season (the game would have been in Foxborough to boot).
@EdmacZ
@EdmacZ Год назад
The Steelers "avoided" New England because: 1) New England wasn't good enough to beat Jake Plummer. 2) New England wasn't good enough to reach the playoffs. 3) New England wasn't good enough to beat Mark Sanchez at home.
@Utuubuploader2012
@Utuubuploader2012 Год назад
@@EdmacZWell in 2008 Brady got hurt in Week 1. Everyone knows there's basically no way the Steelers would've won in Foxborough in 2005 or 2010, especially considering the Steelers lost at home to the Patriots during those regular seasons.

@TheLocalLt
@TheLocalLt 3 года назад
PicNic Troy was an average and aged talent by this point but a baller who was football smart, Branch was excellent though, no doubt about that. The receiving corps was pretty good in 2005 actually, it was a problem in 06 but in 05 Branch and Givens were still around. The problem in 05 was injuries, both to Dillon and the defense. Several Patriots were also supposedly growing unhappy with being underpaid after back to back Super Bowls; Branch would eventually hold out in 06 training camp and get shipped to Seattle where he battled injuries and a lack of fit in the WCO for years before returning to health and productivity with the Pats in the early 2010s. Givens also left that offseason to cash in his rings and get overpaid by Tennessee (who he ended up suing for ruining his career by misdiagnosing and mistreating a knee injury). David Patten was washed up and he’d already gotten his overpriced free agent deal after the 04 season with the Redskins, though he had several more decent seasons there

When the Patriots were going to Pittsburgh for the AFC Chamionship game in 2001, the Steelers had all there players with there bags, and everything they needed for New Orleans, where the Super Bowl was that year. Tedy Bruschi, and Willie McGuinest brought the other Pats players over to look at the stuff. “They think that little of us” Tedy said. “Let’s go kick there asses” Now, there was no ass kicking, but, my Pats go to the Bowl, and everything is good. Just one more thing Brady and Branch elevated each other so much early on and Belichick is not the coaching genius people give him credit for because he let Deion Branch get away when it wouldn't have been that hard to keep him and I think it cost the Patriots two rings possibly three. Also just as I think you know no sensible person can deny that Tom Brady is the greatest quarterback of all time I think Roethlisberger and Randall Cunningham are tied for the hardest quarterbacks to sack of all time. I don't want to hear no Elway Steve Young Michael Vick yeah they could run they could scramble but Cunningham and Roethlisberger we're dead to rights so many times wrapped up and somehow just people could not bring them down

But Brady having no weapons, especially in 06, led to them loading up in 07. May not have taken the chance on Moss if Branch was still here.

I absolutely hate same-place-finisher games👿👿👿👿. Having this game on Monday night was extra retarded. This game should've aired on NESN (Patriots) and Fox sports net Pittsburgh (Steelers) it's devastating, disgusting, embarrassing and humiliating that this game happened in 2005. Same-place-finisher games should only be allowed to air on regional networks such as Bally sports, NBC sports regional networks, AT&T sportsnet. The NFL really needs to get rid of same-place-finisher games altogether or at the very least don't have them be nationally televised but have them be televised by regional networks

This is an underrated rivalry. I mean Roethlisberger has spent large amount of times with good groups of receivers but he's done it with different good groups of receivers. I feel that makes him underrated that and how hard he is to tackle& in my opinion he's a better quarterback than Peyton I played my whole career with Reggie Wayne and Marvin Harrison as well as Dallas Clark I need either Edgerrin James or I can remember that guy that replaced Edgerrin James that was almost like the same player anyway my point is Peyton Manning is very overrated. Tom Brady is great with whatever receivers he gets. Throw in the Five Rings the only team to have an undefeated 16 Game season the Superhuman playoff performances and other not too shabby stats with a different offense every year almost including only one year with a great receiver and Randy Moss and only an idiot babbling at traffic can say at this point that Tom Brady is not the greatest of all time however my opinion is the Ben Roethlisberger is a better quarterback than Peyton Manning and the Rivalry between Brady and Roethlisberger is underrated
@EdmacZ
@EdmacZ 5 лет назад
The biggest thing holding it back is the Steelers’ overall lack of success against Brady. If the Steelers won more, it would be a lot more noticed. Ben has won his regular season matchups, but never had that big time win or that great moment in the Playoffs against Brady’s Patriots like Peyton has.

Great game. Pats D will get shredded this sunday. Steelers will put 30 plus up. Pats offense having trouble scoring in red zone this year, that is an area they used to be great at!?? Now, not so much. They get too cute w play calling imo. Its diff to watch their defensive struggles this year, my faith in them closing out a game by playing defense is totally gone after that miami mess i call it. Was one of the worst effortless play to sabotage your own team by not playing w your heart and going all out to make the last tackle for a div title no less!!?? I dont get it, i wont get it. THIS WEEKEND: 35 to 24 Steelers even though im a dIE hard Pats fan since '82, Pats have an aweful defense, no pass rush, tackling insufficiencies list goes on this year. Smh.
