Hi Jared! I'm just starting school and I have a kinda silly question. How do you actually count the frequency of a wave? I feel like i'm counting too many waves and not getting the correct answer (alpha, delta, etc). Thank you!

@@heef9001 Not a bad question since you’re a new student. It is possible you are incorrectly counting both the top and bottom of waves. You should only count the number of times a wave reaches its high point over 1 second. I suggest practicing on a normal EEG with the patient relaxed with eyes closed.

Have you read about that brain death recorded on eeg and it showed a spike in gamma waves? I have temporal lobe epilepsy and have had a couple of ecstatic seizures so I’ve always wondered if there was a relation to not so much seizures but just a jolt in brain activity in general. I could only imagine the experience of a spike in brain waves that weren’t hypersynchronized.
