My name is Jared Beckwith, I’m a registered EEG technologist. This EEG is from a 40 year old male with recurrent status epilepticus. There are interictal epileptiform discharges at T5, and also 7 seizures seen on EEG.

Thank you for your channel and content its very helpful to people with seizures disorders and family to be able to see and have better understanding of these things. I had my EEG done yesterday the tech was very helpful and gave my husband a since of comfort explaining and teaching him about my triggers and the process of the eeg. I wiuld say the biggest - about my EEG was i didnt take my seizure meds the night and morning of the test because of instructions mine was a sleep deprived so i was also very tired walking into testing room the lights were as bright as the sun it triggered a seizure and made me feel panic . During the test i had to close my eyes and the tech flashed lights in my eyes triggered another seizure i dont understand how but i felt very tired and emotionally exhausted. But overall a really good experience and i appreciate your videos and knowledge thank you.

Do you honestly like being an eeg tech? Im a registered tech too but I find this field boring and annoying

It is pretty repetitive, especially once you’ve done it for a while. Honestly there are some days where I don’t really want to go into work, but I think it would be the same with any job. Even though there’s annoying stuff like fighting uncooperative patients, I overall like being an EEG tech.

How long did it take for you to understand / read brainwaves? I plan on applying to an EEG tech program after finishing my pre req courses and would love to know! 🧠 🩷

You can get the basics of reading a normal eeg pretty quick within a few months. It probably takes about 3-4 years on the job to learn how to describe all the more advanced ICU patterns. I’m still learning and getting better myself 😄
