We used to do this by cleaning the caliper fully then reassemble the caliper piston seal and boot. Then lube the piston and both seal and boot with brake fluid. Feed in just a little compressed air in the line connection. The boot pops up around the piston and then you cut the air and push the piston the rest of the way down. Takes a little practice, but once you've mastered the technique is faster. The technique is listed in early Chrysler service manuals
Limpiar la corrosión es muy importante. una esponja verde de lavar platos con aceite 3 en 1 te puedo ayudar mucho aunque sea algo lento. El acabado será casi perfecto
@@williamvaughan1218 exactly so the external seal won't seal. The reason it needed rebuilding in the first place is because moisture got into it from the external seal not sealing
Servicing my own cars, I've replaces a few brake piston seals and boots, and they have lasted over 10 years and I don't even change the brake fluid every year, maybe every 2-3 years. But always use brake compatible grease to lube seal & boot rubber.
I think you need a bead blaster to clean that caliper and get rid of the corrosion That's the quickest way to reconditioned this part for sure, but it looks like you got some good skills there keep up the good work😊
Those are the easiest ones to rebuild do a old GM dual piston corvette that you have to use air to take them out and put them in he did that procedure on point
Calipers, rotors and the few wheel cylinders that are out are just cheaper time wise and more reliable than rebuilding unless they’re on high performance or race cars.
@@opelservicekyivdon't listen to these wallies. They don't have a clue. The seal surface looked immaculate. They think the rust in the boot groove is the seal surface 😂
They make a hone to hone the cylinder before putting a new piston in. Honking would make for a better seal. 1970s you bought rebuilt kits didn't buy calipers like today.
Hello friend . Good video 🙏👏 1 question please ? what kind size of honing tool do use to hone the holes on the bracket holes . I thank you for response . 👌🙏👏👍
@@opelservicekyiv Hello again yes i ment brake caliper the honing size for inside the brake caliper and the holes in the slide , that makes the caliper slide back & fort I do thank you for your response 🍀🙏🙌 5 / 07 / 23
@@khodayehrangekaman315 I clarified that in our service we do not restore brake calipers. We only change repair kits. In the event of severe wear or jamming, we give the brake calipers to a subcontractor and they return them to us already assembled. I'm sorry but I can't help you with this question.
It must suck to be a car RU-vidr because everybody just comes out and declares himself an expert and insults the poster. my condolences I love these videos❤❤❤
Dormant products has a repair kit. Drill out the old screw and tap with a pipe thread. An adapter screws in with s new bleed screw and seat. Haven't tried one yet but it looks good.
Beat the area around the bleeder with the ball, peen hammer it will come out, and if you’re having a bad day, you’ll break it off and have to use an extractor, but it will come out.
I learned my lesson the hard way, if your caliper is hard to unbolt get rid of the damn thing, I snapped two nuts off trying to remove it to put a new one so it was one with the truck until I could get a tapper, I felt super defeated putting everything back on😂💀
But why? You can just replace the entire caliper with a new one and at the same time you will get a rebate when you return the core. It might be cheaper to rebuild it but might as well replace it and its the same thing..
Save some time buy a new caliper.. new warranty.. may cost more but by the time u pay the hourly rate new vs rebuild probably very close to the same cost
Just had to replace a caliper I did 2 weeks ago under warranty due to the remand caliper leaking at the piston seal. Don't waste time and money going with cheap parts
Rust needs balsting clean or use a small wire wheel on a high speed multi tool, then use red rubber grease under seal and on exposed metal within the unit to slow rust returning. New seals not normally required unless damaged. The repair shown is useless as rust will return within 12 months
I work on motorcycles mostly. Calipers are very expensive. Cars I replace the calipers. Those little screws size into the aluminum calipers and usually break off. I found a repair kit: drill out the screw and tap the hole to pipe thread. A brass adapter screws in and has a new bleed screw.
In the USA this would have been a reason for the whole car to be at a junkyard..... 75% of parts changers wouldn't know where to start with this simple task....
Watching the dude attempt to scrape that rust off that machined surface kinda pisses me off. To think when the customer comes to pick up his vehicle and asks how everything went, they will reply with something short, false, and expected, like, "all set, no problems at all." Followed by: "Here is your invoice and your keys are at the register on the left. Just hand them your invoice and they will take care of you....."
Mucho ojo.. Pregúntame..!
I know the caliper is always getting hit with water... but it's cast bro.. at least don't hit it with water on the machined surfaces man... just break clean that shit..
