I read Princess Alice or Alice when it came out. I did enjoy it. She was Prince Philip's mother, so King Charles's Grandma ma and a very devout, exemplary Christian who gave succor and shelter to destitute during WWII. Her life was definitely Not a bed of roses and she lived her latter years at Buckingham Palace in ascetic surroundings

Long English lit. The queen Victoria book looks amazing. I found a 1901 biography of Queen Victoria. No hard cover but still in great condition for its age

Some very interesting selections. I have the Pepys biography by Coote and can recommend that as a good intro to his life and his work.

This is an insanely cool book haul. I'm so jealous of the Samuel Pepys' biography. You'll love his diary when you get to it; I got to teach that, and it was so much fun.

Really appreciate your practical comments at the start about how the Brattle delivers books. (Although I live too far away to visit or get deliveries, dang). Didn't know they had a podcast - which at least I can access. Hmm will be interested to hear what you think of "The Assassin's Cloak", I got it on Steve's recommend but didn't warm to it, very bitsy. But defo instructive to read other people's diaries - once they're published. Princess Paley photo looks like she's desperately trying not to laugh - will be interesting to hear if she has an eye for the absurd.

Terrific! I've been looking forward to this one. I see a few titles that I also saw on the shelves when I was at the Brattle a couple weeks earlier. I also picked up a number of nautical books, all which had the name Scott Seifert written on the opening end papers. I'm wondering if your copy of "Killigrew and the North-West Passage" might also have been from his library? Looking forward to Part 2!
