A wee bit of trivia for ya... Hamish the Scot was played by Irishman Brendan Gleeson and Stephen the Irishman was played by Scot David O'Hara, they originally auditioned for the opposite part but Mel felt like Brendan had the stature and presence to play Hamish and David had the attitude and charisma to play Stephen. So Brendan put on a Scottish accent and David put on an Irish accent and they swapped parts.

In addition to falling for Murron at a young age I think another reason she meant so much to him was that he wouldn't have had a home to return to if there was no love there to make it one. She prevented his homeland from being just land. A reason to even come back at all.

I'm Scottish and Braveheart is still my favourite film ever. It's utter fiction on the most part but as a film it's pure perfection. My claim to fame is the guy who at the battle of Stirling said '' home,the English are too many '' and '' William Wallace is 7 foot tall '' used to play football with us. He was a dick to be fair and not very good at football...but I'm grasping at straws here 🤣 Great reaction, glad you enjoyed it.

@@kennethwolff6082 so are you related to Wallace or the Bruce? Do you live in Scotland or the US ? I'm just interested in who told you its accurate , What family stories ? We're talking about 700 years ago, Im English born and bred , but I don't think I'm related to anyone involved in the Scottish wars But I do know the history of my own country , Wallace's time nobody painted woad across their faces , nobody wore kilts bc they didn't exist at the time. Wallace didn't come from a peasant village, his father was a landowner a noble, Wallace didn't have an affair with the princess, because she was only 6yrs old when Wallace was killed. The real battle of sterling bridge was fought around a bridge In the movie they faced each other on open land, and would've lost if it happened like that. I could go on forever.. Just Google, you'll find out all the inaccuracies for yourself. Its known as the worst film regarding historical accuracy thats ever been made . Sadly a lot of people believe the movie is historically accurate ( mainly Americans) Did you know the Scottish hate the movie , in Stirling museum they had a statue of Gibson dressed as Wallace, but the Scots kept defacing it , they tried protecting it with a cage , but it still got vandalised, so they had to remove it.

I’m from Stirling where he won his first battle. Though not historically accurate Wallace was a real man and he did put our wee Nation on its path to winning freedom from Longshanks and the English, for the next 5 centuries. Braveheart was seen as such a threat to the U.K. that it was banned from being shown on TV in the run up to the Scottish independence referendum in 2014, a referendum we were close to winning…..I for one hope we will have our freedom again 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿

13:11 The reason he put her on a horse was because that would be her best chance at escaping. He also figured they would mostly come for him, giving her a better chance to escape. He was wrong, however his reasoning was sound. I also want to point out that Murron being assaulted and eventually captured and killed, had zero to do with her getting married or having a relationship with William. That English soldier already had his eye on Murron and that attack was inevitable. And I just got to the part where y'all come to that realization. 😉

Greetings from Scotland :D Stuff they made up: Wallace's backstory - little is actually known of Wallace's early life but he was certainly not the son of some random farmer. He was a landowner, a minor noble. The French Princess - at the time of the story, she was nine & still in France The wife - there is no evidence Wallace was ever married The homosexuality of Prince Edward - his enemies spread this rumour after his death, most historians doubt it's true Robert the Bruce's betrayal at Falkirk - total fantasy, invented entirely for the film. Zero basis in fact. The old King's death - Edward Longshanks outlived Wallace by quite a few years Stuff they exaggerated: Wallace's invasion of England - while he did invade northern England, I don't believe he got within a hundred miles of York. Stuff that is true: The Battle of Stirling Bridge - while the exact events have been made more cinematic, the basic facts are that a massively outnumbered Scottish force under Wallace's command did indeed annihilate the entire northern army of the English. His capture & execution - he was betrayed by the Scottish nobles & captured by the English in Glasgow. He was taken to London where he was hung, drawn (guts removed) & quartered (exactly what it sounds like). His head was placed on London bridge & the four quarters of his body were sent to the four corners of the kingdom as a warning (spoiler, it didn't work).

It’s based on the Scottish rebellion of 1314. It was Robert the Bruce’s rebellion but Wallace is a cult figure who was reported to be a great Scottish warrior who fought with Bruce. There is no concrete evidence that he even existed. But historians stated that if he did and won the battles he won and wielded the sword that’s accredited to him, he must have been a man of huge physical stature. (Hence the jokes about him height). Also, the bit about him fathering the princesses child is pure fantasy.

More like 25% of it was fiction mate, trust me i know just about everything there is to know about Scottish history, especially Wallace and the Bruce's history.
@davidhall-4640
@davidhall-4640 11 месяцев назад
Yeah, William Wallace is like: Clark Kent, Peter Parker, Bruce Banner, Stephen Strange, etc. He was a fictional "superhero" that Robert the Bruce made the phuck up to stir up patriotism in Scotland among the lower classes so they'd willingly fight the British. And the whole beginning dialogue is completely wrong, lol. The British were FIRMLY in the pocket of the Roman Catholic Church (bad guys).... the Scots were the pagans (good guys😉). It's still an amazing film and story.

@@davidhall-4640 That's a load of bull sh!t lol, they have William Wallace's claymore on display. The English actually killed a man named William Wallace and he was given a trial and found guilty and killed in London. It's all on record you ignorant bastard lol

@@garymcatear822 you know Scottish history , yet you claim 75% of the movie is historically accurate!! 🤔 The whole thing with the English queen is fiction, she was a child in real life st the time , The battle of sterling errr bridge , lol all wrong. ... But it's not a documentary it is Hollywood doing what they do best , taking a good story and ruining it .

Those violence and fighting scenes look very realistic 👏 and I'm glad that they didn't put any music into it. Totally deserved 5 Oscar winner 👏

53:31 I was really amused right here when Murron was smiling at Mr. Wallace while he was getting his head chopped off. 😎 She was not amused when Mr. Wallace slept with the princess. Wallace HAD to die for that, and Murron couldn't WAIT to get her hands around his throat in the after life.

Thank you so much for appreciating this movie. While some things were changed the main course of events are there. England tried to cover up our history and our victories. But luckily other nations recorded the truth and it is now being retaught. The truth always comes out. Your compassion for what our people went through is heartwarming. Love from Scotland 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿
