Until you fatigue, trip or run into fence. Then you qre fucked, because running doesn't give you the tools to beat your opponent.

I've been doing BJJ for almost 5 years now, and I'd say this system really allows you to end one-on-one fights very quickly without sustaining bruises and perhaps sprains from punching and kicking your opponent's skull or jaw. But saying that it's the best martial art in the world is really over the top and ignores its glaring shortcomings -- how do you handle multiple assailants using only jujitsu, for example? There are many footage here on RU-vid that show practitioners of striking arts successfully defending themselves against multiple attackers in real self-defense situations without missing a beat. Additionally, you can only beat an opponent twice your size using jujitsu if he has no experience in any grappling systems whatsoever. Try fighting a Judoka with similar experience level as you for some perspective.

I see many uniformed comments in this forum. First thing that you learn in a good bjj program is to be humble. Getting choked will make you humble real quick. Second the comments about multiple attacks, you should learn of situational awareness and intention in a good school. Your professor will teach you that your first goal is not to go to the ground. The ground techniques are for extreme cases. But they also teach you to get back on your feet. They teach stand up and weapons retention. So all that I'm reading about is groundwork. It's a great way for self defense if you are humble enough not to claim it's the best. Every situation is different. Please do a little reading and some classes . You'll love it!!

The best martial art in the wolrd is so incomplete because strikes dont allow in competitions expect if we talking for mma ,self defence of bjj is just old kodokan judo self defence and ofc bjj notlearn you how to use a wepon(stick knife)against an armed opponent or somoene that try to disarm you.Also the disarm that have arw very dangerous and ineffective in real combat.And the best martial art is a gun a 3 meters distance everything else depends on person

Blue Belt in BJJ can beat any Black Belt in other Martial Arts.......damn!!!!!
@iansinclair6256
@iansinclair6256 7 лет назад
A blue belt can have 18 months to 5 years worth of experience and dedicated training. So, its not that surprising really. Most 1st Dan/degree black belts take 3-5 years to achieve. But it will all depend on the individuals and not so much the styles themselves.
@YoumingMa
@YoumingMa 8 лет назад
A legit IJF certified Judoka can take on BJJ purple belts in both ground game and throws. This is due to the huge similarities in their ground techniques. I have trained in both arts and that claim 'BJJ blue belts can take on any martial art black belt' in the video is very ignorant.
@MohseenLala
@MohseenLala 8 лет назад
I think they meant a "black belt" of any other art in terms of stand-up striking arts. TKD, Karate, etc. I've actually never seen a BJJ guy lose to them, and I've sparred and chocked a TKD black belt once.
@iansinclair6256

It will depend on the martial artist, not the style. Some have enough of an understanding to cause a grappler an issue.

@MohseenLala
@MohseenLala 7 лет назад
Ian Sinclair Yeah, I learned to be more reserved and let the boxer close the distance himself, instead of me just charging for a double leg take down. Also learned they have difficulty defending complex take downs, like the pigeon and scissor. Also the take down needs to be a counter to the punch. Yes, much better getting punched by a buddy in a comfy well padded gym, than the dingy street by a potential murderer.

@iansinclair6256
@iansinclair6256 7 лет назад
I have had much the same experiences as Daniel. Most fights do not in fact end up on the ground. That is nothing but propaganda from the Gracies who fought challenge matches, not real street violence. And when fights went to the ground you were usually losing to begin with.
@iansinclair6256
@iansinclair6256 7 лет назад
Don't get me wrong, having ground skills is useful for sure, but don't play the ground game in the real world, unless the situation allows for it. Unlike rolling, you don't get a second chance and losing isn't an option.
@danskarate997

Ian Sinclair exactly well said and look i have nothing against jiu jitsu its great that people are getting interested in martial arts i fully support that but being honest i tried it and it wasnt for me and striking is my forte i would rather move around and block whats coming and throw an accurate strike to a vital point to stop an attacker than risk getting hurt on the ground once there its hard to get up if you fuck up but as for security industry i think jiu jitsu is great as you cannot hurt patrons and you have back up to help you so restraint techniques :)

Why would you claim BJJ is best self-defense in the world? In a street fight it's absolutely crucial not to get down to the floor, or get up as fast as possible. Otherwise you're in too big risk of being hit in the head by bystanders, who are always there.
@Fischerrrrrrrr
@Fischerrrrrrrr 8 лет назад
+Josef Richter bjj helps you to get back up on your feet. What do you do if you get taken down and you don't know any grappling? You are screwed!
@pepa007
@pepa007 8 лет назад
You are right of course. What I'm saying is you should avoid taking opponent down in street fight in the first place - takedown is basically the main attacking technique of BJJ.
@rossnichols2038
@rossnichols2038 7 лет назад
Josef Richter See this is the most common misconception that all BJJ practitioners take the fight straight to the ground and stay on the bottom in self defense situations. BJJ incorporates throws, take downs and trips that allow you time to get away, furthermore forcefully falling to the ground and smacking your head on the floor can end the fight right there. Let's be real here for a moment though what self respecting BJJ practitioner wouldn't be willing to do the good old Ground and Pound mounted on someone foolhardy enough to attack them? It's not all just armbars and chokes for us when crap hits the fan however sinking a good choke reigns truly supreme in BJJ as any blood cut off from the arteries to the brain is lights out regardless how many jack Daniels he had or how much PCP he is on.

look i think the instructor didnt mean to be offensive but a black belt is someone who has dedicated years of his life and made great personal sacrifice to earn that belt and i see people who are going for black belt there character is impeccable in regards to being respectful and peaceful and are highly skilled i dont care if a blue belt can tap a black belt thats not the point to say a blue belt is better than a black belt is to undermine what the black belt represents and this is obscene and disrespectful
@MrsAntilope
@MrsAntilope 8 лет назад
+Daniel Griffith.A blue Belt is just a Person that started martial art later than the Person that is black belt.Could be possible that a person with less mat experience has a greater ability, without been disrespectful. It is relative. In Judo competition, it is possible that a 1st dan has a better technique than a 4th dan, therefore s/he can win the fight.The lower dan in competition could win the fight and, does not mean that the higher grade has the better techniques.
@danskarate997
@danskarate997 8 лет назад
+Tiziana Hetherington I'm not saying that a blue belt couldnt beat a blk belt I'm saying it is wrong to insult a blk belt by saying a blue belt is better when a black belt is someone who has made greater efforts to perfect there character and have great control over there body I train with people who are going for first Dan and some have dedicated themselves to there art for over a decade a blue belt has 2 years experience and are mentally unprepared for a real situation as well there is more to a blk belt than just great technique
@MrsAntilope
@MrsAntilope 8 лет назад
It is. You are right. :D
@iansinclair6256
@iansinclair6256 7 лет назад
Belts are subjective Daniel. I have learned not to value a belt to much, even the black belt. In most martial arts a black belt is only where you really begin your learning. There is no set standards for belts in any martial art, even within the same styles generally there are discrepancies in skills for the belts. I respect, knowledge, skill, and experience over belts. You can get a BJJ blue belt who has a much experience as a Karate or Judo black belt. So its hardly surprising blue belts can win and not relevant, since another black belt might kick that same blue belts ass. It's all relative hay.

The best self defence in the world, No, i don't think so. An effective self defence system, yes. It's a great art, but its delusional to think its the be all and end all. Real violence is far to complicated and vicious for anyone to claim their style is superior to all others in the real world.
@connerhartman9336
@connerhartman9336 7 лет назад
I think people are getting confused. Bjj is less effective now because so many people who train to fight, AT ALL, train basic bjj so almost everyone knows some of it. If you go back to the first 3 ufc's and see how bjj worked, when nobody knew what it was, against "perfected" martial arts. Nobody is saying that bjj is all you need and if they do, they are ignorant. The argumentative positions ive heard state that it is the best SINGLE martial art you can do if you plan to only do one. Its probably the best place to start, a gateway drug.
@MrsAntilope
@MrsAntilope 8 лет назад
In my opinion, this BJJ has been copied from Judo, with added quite dangerous things from Jiu Jitsu, JUdo is a pure and not dangerous, martial art, such that even very small children can do it, and indeed Prof. Jigoro Kano created it, becasue he was very much bullied, and a small person. Here they just sell what Jigoro Kano created under a different name and far more aggressive and risky. In Judo there are many techniques, on the ground and standing up, and people of any shape and size can find a very well balanced way to Be. I'm not against BJJ, but they are saying exactly all what Judo is. Commercially this would be against the copyright and intellectual property rights, for something that has beed created with intelligence and dedication, even if BJJ is done for a good reason and with good intentions.

Tiziana Hetherington It entirely depends on how serious the competition is and whether you need to use it for self defence. Traditionally, you don't get thrown on your back, you get thrown onto your head. But they civilised a bit for competitive reasons.
@rossnichols2038
@rossnichols2038 7 лет назад
Tiziana Hetherington And judo was developed from the Japanese jiu-jitsu art form, you should read about Helio Gracie and how he developed Gracie Jiu Jitsu based on his teachings as a young man from a great Judo practitioner. I'm not arguing here either but stating a fact to your opinion.

I don't get it! If you are continually going to the ground then how on earth do you beat multiple attackers? You can't simultaneously grab hold of three attackers on the ground it's not humanly possible. When fighting multiple attackers the ABSOLUTELY last place you want to be is one the ground - you are just asking to be left in a bloody mess.

+lee stubbs I guess the only comment I can make on that is that my previous Jujutsu instructor (2nd dan) said once that the best martial art for multiple attackers was White Crane (with it's intimate knowledge of pressure points or Dim Mak). A couple of bruises later and after a TKO (from Dim Mak) I tended to agree with him :P I started training with him in that style as well but he left soon afterwards due to financial matters.

+PiggiesGoMoo There are moves that are banned in the UFC!?! I've only ever watched one UFC fight and I clearly saw punches to the back of the head which can cause death - turned me completely off the UFC. In that same fight I also counted 38 punches to the guy on the ground before the end of one round and then 43 punches to the guy on the ground before the referee stopped the fight in the next round. Yep, not a fan at all of club thuggery.
