Last time I seized a twostroke was in 2005/2006 going WOT trough a 8 km long 262 meter (859 feet) deep subsea tunnel 😝
In 2020 I have seized two times 😫
Atleast we have a good idea why this time 🤣 So hopefully we are done with engine problems and can focus on the weight reduction from now on 😁
But what I rly try to show you here is the difference in sound and feeling between riding a 250 cc twostroke and a 500 cc twostroke 😁

BRC = barely rideable canadiain shit box Put one in my 300exc super moto in Australia and was totally and utterly disappointed scrapped all of it and got a cr500 in a crfx frame the amateurs at BRC have a lot to learn from the japanese 🤣🤣🤣

Sorry to hear of your experiences. I'm in Oz and was so close to forking out for one of these kits. Glad I didn't go through with it. Owned a street legal cr500e prior and regret selling it. I thrashed that thing for years in the coastal dunes and Finke desert and it never missed a beat. They're tough to come by and have appreciated in value a lot.

Maybe it is a problem with temperatures? Aluminium piston gets high temp very fast and extends in cylinder. In cold climate cylinder can not reach optimal temperature and noose round swollen piston. I'm sorry for my english ;)

Yeah I think it's just a poor design all over, several other brc owners have a "seizing problem" when trying to make the brc produce more than 54hp 😝 I traded the brc500 for a 250exc engine. Gonna go with 500excf in the future 👌

Have you done any analysis on where the failure is originating in the engine? Is it frying rings? I'm not an expert but I've owned a few different 500 2-strokes and have spent some time observing and repairing them. They're very temperamental machines. Judging by the application (supermotard) coupled with your skill level (experienced), I'd say it's at least 75% physics to blame for the engine failure. These bikes don't like to rev past 5k rpm and are balanced to make power very low, and that's running on OEM stroke distance. Given these kits are stroked versions of the CR500, naturally this lowers that rev range due to greater reciprocating mass. They might have increased the stroke to better accommodate a smooth-acting countershaft to eliminate vibration. But this is paid for with rev range and reliability. If you're not short-shifting this bike, you'd better be running it very rich on the top end otherwise it's going to overheat because that's not where the motor is designed to operate, especially for longer periods of time that are only achievable riding on the street and at your skill level. The problem is, with the countershaft in action, the bike doesn't give you much feedback on when and where to shift in the rev range and you can be highly overrevving it without knowing it. Just hearing the way you were riding it (forgive me for saying so, because I am just theorizing), I would say you were not shifting the bike when it needed to be shifted and it was operating in the danger zone for too long. I had a Yamaha WR500 that used to do the same thing. It hated to be revved, but communicated that to you with all kinds of vibrating, pinging, and sputtering at higher rpm's. It has to do with many of the inherent flaws of the 500 2-stroke design. As a matter of fact, these kits sound identical to a YZ490 and WR500 with headwork done and I imagine the rev range is very similar. Anyway, this is just my theory. I hope the company communicates with you on a more professional level in the near future. These kits seem truly awesome, but I'm realizing they might not do much good unless you're riding trails, just like the YZ490 and WR500. Hoping to hear your thoughts on this. Thanks for uploading and sharing your experience. P.S. I think BRC should program some type of rev-limiter into the ECU in these kits. That is, until they sell them fuel-injected. At that point, the first thing to fail will not be the piston/rings overheating but will be bottom end bearings since the long stroke of these kits is not safe for high revs.

I heard from more brc owners that the engines pretty much just don't handle high revs. User experience is like this: Bying a brc500 -> get angry when you learn about the low power output -> try to get a higher power output -> engine fails. The engines has a very steep sign off in power after 6800rpm where it's like all the energy just goes from pushing down the piston to heating up the piston. Like if you have 50-60rwhp at 6800 you are sub 20hp at 8000. And no, they pretty much just had their goons attack me on sosial media while they them self totally ghosted me. So It ended with me trading the 500 engine for the 250 engine on the video. So for me it has just been a terrible experience. aprox 8500€ lost on the brc and about another 500€ to get the 250 in good condition and mildly tuned. I'm not at all a "rich person" so the 8500€ i lost on the brc is more than any motorcycle i have ever owned. If they where opperating in Norway they would have been taken down long time ago, it's illegal to false advertize what you are selling here. I'm never getting my money or time back. So I'm just hoping they will pull the same bullshit on someone closer to their location and that they will sue them out of buissnes. Now days I tell ppl to buy a exc-f 500 if they want power, a 125-250 if they want a twostroke. If you buy a 500 twostroke it's a show piece. My dream about a 500 twostroke you can also USE died with this project.

@@gnagsaar_ Very sorry to hear about this. As someone who aspired to build one, I am very disappointed to hear this and I'm seriously considering abandoning this dream. It's true, it's very expensive for the power figures you achieve from a late 1980's 2 stroke... $8500 should get you a 100% billet engine making a reliable 70hp minimum. I agree, it is unacceptable. They need to abandon their countershaft design and focus on making high-revving CR500 replica motors. At least they will be reliable.

@@DB-fn3fz I wish I bough a 3500€ complete CR500 insted and just swapped over the engine. But In a few years I might be able to buy a 2020+ excf500. That will be way better for my use. While the stock brc did 53rwhp on dyno, the 2020 excf500 does 54rwhp right from the shop here in my part of Europe. With a perfect mapping they do 60rwhp. And they will last 3 times as long between piston swaps. The engines weights the same. The electric start on the excf will not fail after one week. (brc uses the same electric start as the 250-300, but u need 24v to make it turn around. and can only be used as a re-starter) And insted of only having useable power from 5000-6800rpm as the brc, the excf only signs off alittle after 8000rpm and hits the limiter sometime over 9000rpm. My opinion today is that if you want more than 300cc on a twostroke, you need to start adding cylinders. Thats the only way you will also get power. There is tuned twin cylinder scooters making over 50rwhp at sub 200cc 😂 I think anyone who tries to use a 500cc twostroke for anything else than motocross/hillclimbs are in for a bad experience. They are a myth that just don't hold up to todays standards.

@@gnagsaar_ 4-strokes are the best and have been so for a long time now. There's no argument against that. These 500 2-strokes are just a novelty in the end. But they really tug on my heart. What do you think about other companies like Liger? Would you ever buy a Liger cylinder to put on a BRC bottom end or OEM Honda bottom end? They seem to make big hp very easily.

@@DB-fn3fz pretty sure it wont fit, brc has designed their own cylinders. I don't think Panthera has the best rumor for making quality, but never seen or talked to a owner in real life. I did read the instructions and manual for their Panthera 550 engine and I was not sold on it 😆 alot of shaking and rocking the engine etc as startup procedure (and thats in the MANUAL) not some old guy on the track telling you how they used to start 500eds 😝 But they do sell alot of cool stuff for CR500. If I bought a CR500 back in 2019 rather than the brc i would prob have gone with some of the mods, and would be able to give a real opinion now😉

I'm trying to get a NEW cylinder for it, the one i have has been trough to much 😂 They have like a engine rig on a dyno for testing. "67hp wheel corrected" it says, I still don't understand what it means. I have talked to many of the BRC owners, realistic wheel hp is 50-55hp if you only use the parts in the kit and can-do attitude 😝 This is step by step tuning from the guy who has the most powerfull brc i know about: Dyno break down all using 38mm pwk Stock with fmf 52 hp Hygge Sm pipe 61 hp Ignition advance 64 hp Air filter 67 hp Porting and 2mm shorter crank 73hp Hygge Rev pipe 74 hp Best race gearing 14-40 O-60 mph 3.9 secs

cr 500 we are on the correct path atleast 👌 If I knew everything i know today pre ordering I think I would. And I would not brag to half the world about getting a 70 rear wheel hp kit 😂 And I would NOT have to tune the shit out if it to reach my goal. A decorked 500exc makes like 5hp more than the brc (but with less torque) But said it as it IS, it's a 500 twostroke, consept alone is badass. Problem is when you are on the dyno with half the world watching and you look like an idiot 😂 The engine it self is not bad, i know a few have broken their primary gearing during startup failures. But i don't think thats a common issue (just user error/ no decomp) The electric starter is a joke, it WORKS, but they are VERY short lived, like the suck for 250/300 on a 500cc combined with them have to run on 24v they are a joke imo. I killed two then just quit, can't afford it. The fmf in the kit is cheeeep! it needs work done imo (but i might have been unlucky with that one) Help from their side... It was good, but I think after the dyno reveal i was no longer their fav customer 😂 And then now after i pinned the seizures to them selling me a suicide head 😬😬 to be fear i think 100 ppl have the kit, and about 10 have reached out to me being pissed. So 90% good? and i would guess a good 40% of the total are rich guys who never rides the bike, so don't rly ever tested it 😂 Buy one if you love the 500cc twostroke consept, not for the snakeoil promisses. Yeah there is also brc bullies 😂 they will attack you if you make brc look bad 😂 Like for real! damn this became a long post😂 I might do a real review one day

would you need to make permanent frame modifications to fit a 500exc-f motor?
@gnagsaar_
@gnagsaar_ 4 года назад
Murray Robinson Yes 😅 It would have been my best option to buy a exc-f 500 as I started the project, and then used that frame to fit the brc500 engine 😝 to have the correct cc in the papers 😝 But TBH I think that would have ment the death of the project 😂 an uncorked excf 500 makes like 58 hp, first dyno with the brc was 53-54,9 hp. So I think I would have been RLY frustrated at that point😂 Atleast when I started with a 300 I got more hp and was hyped and just 75% dissapointed after the dyno testing 😂 A SX-F 450 makes 53-54hp stock, you even get 505cc kits for those 😏 If i go 4stroke, that would be my first choose I think 🤔 throttlebody, ports, ecu and everything is bigger and revs higher than a exc😝

I thougt about using a 250 engine couse most of them have 72mm stroke and for a 72mm stroke you need a 94mm piston to get 499cc and that wouldnt be too dificult to do probably just boring the cases and boring a 500cc cylinder to 94mm adjust the ports and you would have a pretty nice 500 that will easily rev to 10000-10500rpm and make some serious power
