Break Free of the Spaghetti! - Satisfactory Manufacturer Design & Logistics Tutorial

When you unlock the manufacturer in Satisfactory, it can be a challenge to find an efficient and organized design that works. This video shows two different manifold design ideas on how feed your Satisfactory manufacturers and avoid conveyor belt spaghetti.
The first design is an easy efficient one for your first manufacturer experience that you can throw together anywhere pretty easily with a little conveyor belt bus and some splitters.
The second design is perfect for those factories that you want to keep really neat, tidy, and efficient using a logistics floor to hide your conveyor belts.
I even throw in a bonus power hiding tip towards the end to give your Satisfactory build an extra touch of cleanliness.

When you had to re-do the belts at 2:55: I felt that in my soul. Building a lot of pipes is so much nicer because you dont have to worry about direction. Also this simple variant is pretty close to how I do it usually, mine is just a touch more asthetically pleasing IMO, though it takes up a ton of space. I stack 4 splitters at the first hole (depending on what direction the parts are coming from) positioned 1-1.5 foundations away and belt them in from there, it doesn't clip, but it takes up a lot of space. I guess the upside is you can see if there's a problem with a line faster, but really I'm just exhausted by the time I get to the end of a factory that ends in manufacturers and just want to set it up as simply as possible. I probably won't bother with logistic floors, or other cosmetic belt/wire hiding (I like the industrial nightmare asthetic for my factories), but I got a big bolt of inspiration on how I wanna do my Frames production. I'm gonna go to the Rocky Desert starting zone and build 3 giant floors for the 3 tiers of frames, maybe this time I'll actually use walls and make it look like.... something, though likely only after it's complete.

@DrLootCrate

It definitely saves a ton of space...the coal generator is a great spot for a belt floor. I would probably still run my pipes on generator level...I have found that feeding anything fluids from below can get a little wonky. Timewise, the key for me is to find some patterns for each kind of machine that work for looks and aren't too fiddly. That way I know what to do each time I have to build a given set of machines.

I've been playing the same save for years. Its fun to walk the various floors and see both things missing that were added to the game after i built them and new techniques i incorporated as i got better at the game. Some of the early parts of the factory that fill my storage room with basic supplies on the lower floors are dark because lights hadn't been added yet and all the power is delivered by poles because wall outlets werent a thing. The first 3 floors have no logistics floor so belts are sort of stacked everywhere like your first example.

Another tip for clean power lines when you have a floor beneath your machines: Wall mounted power nodes can be mounted at the ceiling, and you can connect them to the machines above. That way even the power pole will be gone.

That's my favorite way of connecting power. On the other hand, watching him use the regular power pole in this way, maybe it helps find the thing later on. I had good results adding a second floor to my starter factory; simply use the first floor ceiling as a power bus and pass everything upstairs.

Space is the key to organized builds. And to get space, you need a large flat area, or you have to build elevated platforms.
@XxTaiMTxX
@XxTaiMTxX 2 года назад
Ah, I remember "baby's first organization". I spent my entire first run of Satisfactory trying to avoid clipping, making things as "efficient as possible", making things look neat and tidy and nice... Burning like 300 hours of the game before even getting the Assembler... Then, on a subsequent playthrough I went, "This is a massive waste of freakin' time. Spaghetti and clipping are THE MOST EFFICIENT way to do anything." The shortest distance between two points is a straight line. It doesn't look nice, but it's certainly much faster and more time efficient to engage in massive feats of clipping and spaghetti. Do you want to unlock everything in 30 hours, or do you want to make a "pretty factory" that takes you over 100 to organize and be careful about placement in order to "get it right"? Yeah, my new run is "I want to unlock everything as quickly as possible. I can make it look nice LATER. Looking nice is the ENDGAME. It isn't the CURRENT GAME." After all, you're going to be tearing your factory down dozens of times anyway, just trying to "keep it nice" and trying to "keep up with production" as you upgrade miners and transport systems and everything else. Easier to "spaghetti" the thing and "make it nice" later... when the parts are no longer really needed as quickly as possible. In a game like Factorio, the "spaghetti" matters as it actually interferes with productivity and efficiency of your factory. Satisfactory... spaghetti doesn't matter at all, because it's MORE EFFICIENT to clip through everything all the time to achieve the shortest distances between any machine. Belts that slam through power poles, other belts, and other machines and the space elevator? ABSOLUTELY! I'm not going to attempt to reposition anything to "make it look nice". That's a newbie move. Production is fastest by engaging in the clipping and embracing the spaghetti. Make it look nice later. When there's nothing else to unlock and nothing else to do.
@DrLootCrate
@DrLootCrate 2 года назад
Awesome comment and I agree to an extent. My first save was ridiculous spaghetti and I figured out how to be organized towards the end. I thought that I would start again with this knowledge and it was really helpful. So for this save I was generally organized with each build (no clipping and all manifold on foundations), but really didn’t take any time attempting to make it look good until my adaptive control unit factory (which looks horrible haha). Two slight points of contention: I haven’t torn anything down…I just move on to more nodes. There are so many out there. I will be redoing a bit of my starting area because I am building phase 4 parts there and want it to look decent. I have said “I’ll make it nice later” several times and I have not yet done it. Once I move on to a new project, I really struggle to find the motivation to go back. You might be able to glimpse my half decorated RCU factory in the distance in some of my videos…
@XxTaiMTxX
@XxTaiMTxX 2 года назад
@@DrLootCrate I'm not knocking the "make it look nice" and the tips are generally very helpful as I'm always interested in "How do I make this not look like garbage?" when I get to endgame. I just gave up on my most recent run because I was just burning SO MANY HOURS on "rebuilding it" all the time. I mean... you get a Impure Node, so 30 iron a minute. One Smelter to go with it to make 30 iron ingots a minute. Split that off into whatever you're making to keep the ratios perfect... Then, you unlock "Mark 2 Miner". Well, crap. Now I've got to tear down the first smelter and add more constructors. Or, I get Mark 3 Miners and have to do it all over again... It's even worse if you've got a Pure Node and have to start with like 4 Smelters and it scales up a ton as you go. That's to say nothing of when you unlock trucks and no longer want to "belt everything back to the main base". Or, even worse... TRAINS. If you do not have a plan for your train stations the moment you start your file, you are basically asking to rebuild the whole thing again and again. Even having to "upgrade" your belts is a fun new overhaul each time as they can carry more items. Got a Mark 3 belt, but you can't hope to fill it with the Impure nodes around? Downgrade it to Mark 2 or funnel more resources onto that single belt from across the map. I can't even imagine how my transportation network is going to look the moment I unlock the drones (which I've never used before as I'm playing on a brand new PC for this run and hadn't touched the update they were introduced before). All of this to say nothing about when/if you start over/underclocking your machines. I typically end up rebuilding my Satisfactory "main base" at least a dozen times before unlocking Tier 7 and 8, and that's just to "keep it functional". That is to say... adding new lines into old ones from further nodes, adding more machines to current lines, swapping out alternate recipes on current machines, so needing to fix lines again... You can easily see why I blew 300 hours on my first game before even getting "Assemblers" as I had to keep rebuilding my base just to keep stuff from clipping and to keep it "nice and organized". I spent like 30 hours on a freakin' "Mall" for each part in my main factory as well, and I didn't even have that many parts available to make! So, with so many hours trying to "make the factory look nice" on a playthrough, I just couldn't subject myself to that anymore. Making it "look nice" when I had nothing left to unlock seemed far more reasonable to me. Especially since I know I'm capable of sitting down just to tear my factory down and rebuild it to feed lines all back through it again. Spaghetti is the most efficient way to play Satisfactory. I don't begrudge anyone for doing it and I feel like we don't talk about how useful the Spaghetti in the game actually is, in the Satisfactory Community. But, it's also important to make things nice when you can. Making things nice is "endgame" and isn't progression at all. Making things nice is always something good to do to "burn time" while you're waiting for other things to happen. I just don't see the point in focusing so heavily on "making things look nice" so early in the game and before you get most of the important upgrades and unlocks. So, yeah. I can remember my first time at "trying to make things look nice". It was a good time, at the time. But, it made me woefully inefficient at the rest of the game. And, there's nothing to stop you from "going back later", even if you don't have the ambition to do it. It's sometimes hard to "find the ambition" to tear it down and rebuild it. But you know how you start? Just start knocking out walls. Once you get started on tearing it down, you no longer have the hesitation to do it. You then go, "I'm building this much better than I initially had it and it won't be so difficult to navigate anymore and it will DEFINITELY look far nicer". Just gotta rip that band-aid off sometimes.
@DrLootCrate
@DrLootCrate 2 года назад
@@XxTaiMTxX I’m with you, especially the part about burning time by making things nice. It is a good thing to do if you have 20-30 minutes to play. I avoid a lot of rebuilding by just moving on to a different node. I don’t ever go back and replace belts and miners unless I am on the verge of unlocking something and I plan for the upgrade (like I am currently doing with mk 3 miners). I don’t think making things nice is endgame…you can do it whenever you want, including never! But I could see many people playing this game mainly for the building design if they are really into it. That’s not me, but part of the beauty of the game is that there a lot of ways to play it!
@XxTaiMTxX
@XxTaiMTxX 2 года назад
@@DrLootCrate Well, what I mean by "making it look nice is endgame" is because you don't unlock most of the really nice looking stuff to work with until you're basically at that point. Even the placement of new machines and such can make things "look beautiful". I always find it "very limiting" what I've got to work with so early in the game. I prefer the look of the Mark 3 miners, for example. I prefer the look of the bigger liquid storage tanks. I prefer making my buildings look more "lived in" or even "create a tiny little city" with each new section of factory, where I've got cars and parking lots and train stations and stuff. A factory building just doesn't "look nice" to me, until I've unlocked most of the building materials and most of the new machines and structures. You have most of the "sandbox" of creation unlocked by endgame, so it's really the perfect time to begin to beautify stuff. Especially when you're looking at Phase 4 of the Space Elevator and realize you can blow a ton of hours to make those parts at 60 a minute (something I will never accomplish because that task it so daunting), or you can wait a few hundred hours for the elevator to fill and make your factory look beautiful during that time.

Then make sure to color code each of the corners so at a glance you can see it's orientation. Then you can just plop down these abominations everywhere and spaghetti them together to your heart's content without having to think. There is some a little further away though but I imagine it’s going to cost a lot to move all the coal to my base!!!! Is it wise to move your entire base to the coal? Do you get your materials back when you dismantle things? If this is viable how do you cart all of your inventory over to the new base? Ahhhhhh! 😂 I love the chaos of it. :)
@DrLootCrate
@DrLootCrate Год назад
Yeah it almost seems impossible when you see the big clean builds when you are starting out, but it becomes a lot easier to build at scale when you have a standard design for each kind of machine. My first play through was also tasty pasta. This is my 2nd time through, so I had some good idea how to be clean from the start On coal, I prefer just bringing a power line from your base to the coal/water location, so you don’t have to bring either resource a long distance. Power poles are a lot easier. Use coal not near water for steel. And yes, you get a full refund when you dismantle. I have never moved a base…there are so many nodes around the map that I just start building somewhere else and leave the old stuff to make materials I need for the new place

3:30 When placing conveyor lifts: Aim your mouse AT THE PORTS YOU WANT TO CONNECT TO, and you'll see the accordion stretch out to connect further away than you expect, eliminating the need for tiny short belts. As long as you see the holographic arrows pointing the correct direction. Always aim at the ports you want to connect to! Pause on 4:44. Look at all those accordions being neglected. That's lots of material waste to use short belts.

Of course! Not sure I agree that they are better this application. I was trying to completely hide the power plus double outlets don’t work on floors. @@DrLootCrate I diddnt know they don't work on floors thats on me but is single walloutputs work under the floor then you can actually conect the cable from the machine to it and let it go trough the floor. Or you can als put a single walloutput on top of the floor and conect both of them trough the floor. A powerpole takes more space to.

Why couldn’t you just use a sushi bar with smart splitters? Is that not possible here? Single line split off in front of each hole feed the line with all the parts needed…
@DrLootCrate
@DrLootCrate 6 месяцев назад
You can use a sushi belt, but belt throughput is limited. If you want to string a some manufacturers in a row and the recipes calls for screws, that might take up the whole belt. This is more expandable, and also this would work for people that haven’t unlocked or have the materials for smart splitters. Also you need that exhaust valve off of each spot in the chain into a awesome sink because eventually the sushi belt will back up at some spot. I don’t like messing with them really
