My negotiating instincts were saying that when BA turned down the Cleveland trade, to break off talks until next year and turn my attention to giving Trent whatever he wanted. BA has been in bad faith for a solid two months.

And this probably foreshadows that Deebo is gone after this season, as the team will have to pay Purdy. As I believe Deebo can be traded after next season for less than a $10 million cap hit against the 2025-2026 season. I’d also imagine that if Brown and Mustapha perform well as a Safety pair, Hufanga will be moved so the team doesn’t have to pay him. And if Green looks good, Ward is probably gone as well. That plus a restructure or two will allow the team to give Purdy his money.

Question - assuming Trent gets 3 years of guaranteed money, what happens if he retires next year or the year after? Are the Niners still on the hook? Thanks.

Hard to tell how this deal will age, but naturally, the Aiyuk contract will cost the 49ers a few players. Hufanga is probably gone and if Pearsall can play a lick, Jennings is probably gone too after this year. We'll see about Banks and the other free agents next year, but the dark horse candidate for being a cap casualty is Hargrave. If he doesn't produce to the level that the 49ers expect him to this season and does not take a paycut, he could be moved which would save more than 20 million in cap space.

Trent williams hopefully they offer cash guarantees for him he is so loyal treat him well and he’ll protect purdy but leverage because of his age hire another center guard stock is low out of college but maybe a free agent to a two year contract maybe?

BA won the negotiation. He was about to sign for $26 mil, then JJ reset the market, so now BA gets more per year and more fully guaranteed money.

You need to understand the only money that matters is the guaranteed money. Basically 3 years 25 mil a year was guaranteed. Nothing moved, he didn’t win this negotiation. He hurt his brand and will now be labeled a diva. It’ll be fine if he produces, otherwise he will regret his behavior. He won’t see that last year at $45 million.

Don't get me wrong, I'm not saying BA isn't a diva. The Niners shouldn't have caved in to his demands. They should have made him play on the 5th year option if he wouldn't sign their original offer. Now we're going to lose some quality players next year because the Niners overpaid him.

@JakeTheSnake500 He said he wouldn't play under the fifth year option. SF reacted to what BA did. I still think the trade stuff was a bluff and he never wanted to leave, so SF called him on it and he always declined.

@@JakeTheSnake500 their problem was never paying him, it was paying him on par with Jefferson, Tyreek, and Lamb. They stuck to their guns of 25 mil a yr if you look at his guaranteed money. The only reason you think he won is because the AAV, which means nothing.
