This was so inspiring to watch. I also come from Newcastle and I love to write. I’m actually a chef! I’ve taught in cookery schools for over 5 years and I’ve always approached my teaching differently to a lot of the macho, male chefs you see on TV. I’ve always dreamt of putting my teaching concept forward in writing or programming, but my accent has held me back enormously. People, including some publishers, have underestimated my ability to write seriously because I don’t sound like the writer you’d imagine. I keep hoping I get to share my perspective someday. It’s different and I really believe it’d help people become confident and self-sufficient. Every day I hope for the chance, but this talk inspires me to hurry up and push harder!
This is incredibly impressive and vital in our era of misinformation and establishment hegemony. It is very reassuring to hear that people are organising to address the widening gap between those who have and those who have nowt.
