Raced my 2020 all season bone stock... never had an issue with setup after I set sag and forks for my liking. The shakiness at high speeds was eliminated once I moved the forks down on the triple clamp. No issues having to set it up from track to track and the race season I did had 5 different tracks with 2 races on each one for a 10 races series. Hard packed tight corners track, open fast and loamy tracks, and even straight mud... bike was amazing. 100ft jumps and cased few times and never had an issue. The power was so awesome helped me get over many jumps that some wouldn’t dare.

My other half has the 2019 model went from the suzuki rmz 450 2016 and said that the honda can be abit much for him at times that slight aggression when giving it throttle can almost catch him out at times and says the bike just wants to rip away. He wrekins the Suzuki is more user friendly with its power.

I own a 2019, Do you have any further information on upgrading the 19s to add the torque control? Awesome vids btw, very informative and detailed, after watching J Walks vid on the engine mounts I'll be placing an order to get me some of those from the works chassis lab.
@MichaelLindsay
@MichaelLindsay 4 года назад
John Buffum my one test rider did it, he gets a discount on his parts but it still cost around $750 for everything needed. The bikes needs to be updated to the 2020 wiring harness, 2020 starter switch, 2020 ECU and add the new switch for the torque control.

Hey thank you for another great review!! These are setting the bar for bike shootouts!! One thing, when you said you changed the torque setting on the swingarm bolt did anyone tear down and check to see if the linkage and swingarm bearings were even greased? I have bought new bikes before and I have always checked this before riding to make sure that they are properly greased. I bet there is miminal grease in these bearings and this could be the cause of the binding. Just a thought and thanks again for another thorough shootout!! :)

So I'm a guy that hasn't been on a bike in quite some time. I haven't had my own bike in probably 12 or so years, due to work and injury and other things. I'm looking at getting back into it since my kids are starting to ride more and wanting to get into it. What would you recommend for a best all around bike? I used to be a "B" class rider. Currently about 5" 10" and 210 or so. I was a guy that would run lower rpms and never really get into the higher revs of the power output. Out of all the bikes ridden, what would you in your own opinion, be the best fit?

Yours TRULY to be exact, as my wording my have miss-labeled it. It wasn’t turning in the sense we had a leak into the engine. It’s just pushing out of the overflow, but definitely at an excessive rate compared to all the other bikes we tested.
@maverick2242
@maverick2242 4 года назад
Michael Lindsay Wasn’t this problem with the 2019s? maybe your average C class or vet rider won’t have this issue not riding hard enough or long enough to become a problem, but a pro is, ok a fix can be had with money like the Factory and Geico teams did. But why couldn’t Honda sort this out. It’s the only issue with lap times I had when Jeff did a comparison, MX is usually 2 motos of 30minutes plus not 1 lap or 5 laps, a bike that’s fastest over 1 lap isn’t always the fastest bike over 30 minutes?
@chadsugden411
@chadsugden411 4 года назад
Maverick224 no issues on my bike doing it. most guys don’t ride flat out in 100+ temps as long as these guys who ride a few times a week do.
@maverick2242
@maverick2242 4 года назад
Chad Sugden And that’s what I said if you read my comments, still it’s a potential problem even if these guys can highlight it and not on other models, Jeff Walker had this issue on both his WE which he got rid of and had his 250f modified which is why he missed the first 3 odd rounds in the 250 class. another saying it’s a bad bike just saying it should have been improved over 19s. That’s what I’d expect from a company like Honda.
@chadsugden411
@chadsugden411 4 года назад
Yeah fair enough. You would think thy would increase the radiator volume or water pump etc. they only spew out a little bit of coolant it’s nothing major. I tig welded alittle recovery can like the pros use just to be careful so I didn’t have to top up my coolant, and in yet to see any coolant go into it yet... Here’s a picture. pasteboard.co/ItOa8hZ.jpg As you can see it’s been lucky to fill up half of the tube and not even reach the bottle, the bottles never been filled and it’s only 100ml can.

What’s your thoughts on the vortex Ignition on this bike with out getting it mapped by a tuner. Just the vortex x10 “pre set” maps. As I’m in Australia and getting some like XPR or twisted etc isn’t really available here in Australia with out having to post to USA and then pay the exchange rate difference would become an expensive operation. (I have a 2018 and was thinking of trying a vortex with just there maps) Do you feel there maps will give some improvement to calm the bike down or will it just make it have more power and maybe even less manageable? or have you always just ridden vortex’s with mapping being done to them. Cheers for your thoughts, love that your doing! Chad 👍🏼

It would be cool if there was a way to do a shootout where the riders could do some laps on a bike and not know what bike they are riding. It would be interesting to see if the results change.

The TacomaKid wouldn’t work, the bikes are too distinguishable by shapes and all my riders have tested enough bikes to know what each one is just by riding it.

dr187mx the coolant issue with the CRF450R, and we kept bending one of the radiators on the RM-Z. Rear brake pads were wearing quick on KX. That’s about it.

@@jbsmotorsports I just fitted a 2018 Yoshimura RS-9T and an Akrapovic full system to a 2020 model and everything fit. Any system from a 2017-18 model will bolt up to the newer bike. Going backwards though, if a pipe on the 19-20 is designed without the starter boss of the case in mind, it may not fit.

Tom Van Heeswijk changing the torque amount on bolts such as engine mounts, axles, swingarm pivot, and triple clamps have effects on the chassis. Factory teams spend whole days dedicated to testing these. The HRC Honda team doesn’t run the manual recommendations on the swingarm pivot either.

Two pipes means servicing the bike is more complex and more expensive. Aftermarket or replacement pipes are going to be more expensive. Moreover the chance of getting burnt by the pipe increases in an event of a fall. And on the 250R it's even worse. I don't know why Honda is doing this. Well, actually I know. Their offroad department is very much influenced by their street department. Have had Honda's in the past, don't see me buying it again for this reason.
