The Subclass 408 visa (Pandemic Event) also known as the 408 COVID Visa will officially be closing to any new applicants from 2 September 2023.
Moving forward, the Subclass 408 COVID visa in the ‘Pandemic Event’ stream will only be open to applicants who currently hold a subclass 408 visa. These applicants will receive a six month visa accompanied by a Visa Application Charge of $405 AUD. This further underscores the government’s intention to ensure that the visa system is used by those who genuinely contribute to Australia’s growth and development.
With that being said, from February 2024 the 408 COVID visa (in the ‘Pandemic Stream’) will be completely shutting down and closed to ALL applicants irrelevant of the visa they currently hold.
