Hello B1G fans! 🙂 As a UO grad and longtime fan who's been to 35+ games, I'm excited to start playing y'all. It's gonna be weird to not see Cal, Stanford, Wazzu, Colorado, Utah, Arizona, Arizona State, etc on our schedule anymore, but I'm sure we'll have plenty of good games against B1G teams in the coming years. Curious to see how football scheduling is worked out, but I think the four the west coast teams should all play each other annually to help cut down on travel. It'd guarantee one or two shorter road trips for all four programs every year in addition to reducing the number of times existing B1G teams will have to travel across the country. Plus we're all familiar foes to one another, and I'd argue matchups between Oregon/Washington/USC/UCLA are pretty much always highly anticipated games that draw big crowds and solid TV ratings. Looking forward to meeting fans of existing B1G teams and welcoming them to Autzen! I'm certain it'll be a sold-out madhouse when the big dogs come to visit, but hopefully attendance and ratings will be solid for the medium and small B1G teams as well.

Agreed that's why think when the big goes to twenty teams I can see them doing a NFL type style format. 4 divisions inside the conference with a 4 team playoff for the conference championship. Winner with automatic bid to play for a chance of national championship. If they can get the other conferences to fall in line with same format that would be awesome. Remains to be seen if there are 3 conferences or 4, but my gut says by 2025 will be just be the big 12, Big 10, and the SEC. 20 to 24 teams per conference. You fill in the remaining spots for the playoffs for the natty with remaining highest ranked teams. Basing off record and strength of schedule. Welcome to the big 10 from THE Ohio State fan base. Bring in Cal and Stanford to the Big10. Big10 would have 4, five team divisions. And a 4 team "playoff" to determine the champion. North Division: Washington, Oregon, Stanford, Minnesota, Wisconsin. South Division: UCLA, USC, CAL, Nebraska, Iowa Central Division: Northwestern, Illinois, Indiana, Purdue, Michigan St. East Division: Michigan, Ohio St, Penn St, Maryland, Rutgers 8 game Conference schedule. This gives each team 4 Division games, and 1 game against each other Division. 1 permanent cross Division rivalry for each team to maintain rivalries. Conference game 9 match ups are determined based on divisional standings (North v South and Central v East) with the top teams from each division matching up to determine who plays in the championship game. This balances out travel issues as every school would have at least one long trip. Also because game 9 will be determined based on divisional standings, you will get a balanced and competitive final game. For other sports, like basketball, you play everyone once, and your natural rival twice. 20 is the magic number.

There's a super convenient way to schedule an 18-team football league: Ten games make up the conference season for each team. Each team gets three protected rivalries, who they play every year. Each team plays the remaining 14 teams every other year. This allows each team two non-conference games per year, three geographic or historical rivalry games per year, AND allows players the chance to potentially play against each B1G opponent home and away at least once over the course of 4 years.
@joeseddit
@joeseddit Год назад
I'm a huge fan of the OSU-Michigan game. Never missed watching that one on TV since I was twelve. But preserving rivalries isn't a really fair way to schedule. Michigan has to play OSU every year while Illinois gets to play NW etc... To many of us fans, rivalry games are the best of college football, mostly for nostalgic/traditional reasons. But to try to preserve anything nostalgic/traditional in this environment is pointless. That ain't what it's about anymore. So may as well try to give everyone an even playing field and ditch the rivalry concept. If you make college football entirely about money and championships without consideration for the fans, then the model will fail over time. After all, it would just be a minor league for the pros. It might not happen in 2024 because of optics but it will happen eventually. With the money advantages the SEC/B1G have, it will be tougher every year for other conferences to compete making it unfair to leave the decision of who gets in to people outside the B1G and SEC. When that happens it will allow the B1G to create a championship weekend to for a play-in game (1v2 for the championship/playoff bye and 3v4 for the 3rd spot in the playoff). I dunno what the teams are gonna look like. Half 2nd and 3rd stringers? I mean, I get Oregon and Washington...but if you guys expand too much more...you will just be diluting your conference and it's profits. The SEC is gonna get a FAT paycheck next year. And it will only be divided 16 ways, after adding #1 and #5 in terms of revenue production and somewhat close to that in eyeballs. Washington and Oregon...I think washington gives a slightly better footprint...and Oregon makes more. But for comparison, isn't Oregon like #40 in revenue? They made 150mil last year and overtook washington. UT, for comparison made like 230mil. Oklahoma made 210 mil. @@firghteningtruth7173 Actually, Oregon has the bigger footprint. Washington has twice the population base compared to Oregon, but Oregon outranks Washington when it comes to tv rankings. 2022 saw Oregon land the 12th ranked spot in the nation with an average of 2.21 million views per game, while Washington was ranked 34th with 1.15 million viewers per game. 2021 had Oregon land in the 10th position with 2.57 million per game while Washington came it at 38th with just under 1 million per game. Washington definitely has the larger immediate market with Seattle, but Oregon has the larger national market. Both show a good value for the B1G. Washington with their academics is a plus and Oregon with their national brand. Both are terrific additions to the B1G. Due to the lack of an elevator clause in the B1G’s media contract, outside of ND, both schools come in at only half shares because there wasn’t any additional funds to support full revenue payout.

If the big12 is smart you start to look into adding Louisville, Duke,NC, Miami, Pitt, Syracuse, and maybe Boston College. That would make them a power house in Basketball and some more exposure to there football brand in the east.

i agree b12 best bet is to add more basketball schools and try to secure being the best basketball conference and keeps them soild in that 3rd spot for football
@tomdemay6147
@tomdemay6147 Год назад
basketball means nothing, being a powerhouse in the East means nothing. If they are smart they will go after FSU / Clemson / Miami / Georgia Tech. With UNC and Virginia being worthy of consideration too. Nothing of that has to do with their basketball teams either but instead being flagship universities in big states. FSU / Clemson / Miami / Georgia tech combination of Football prestige and / or market size and / or recruiting territory are the most valuable in that order. After that it's big state flagship universities. Adding Syracuse and Boston College type teams are part of the reason the ACC is going to implode. They added no football value and thus diluted the football money taking more from Florida State and Clemson than they added. This is EXACTLY why Florida State and Clemson want out now.

@@kelvinw.1384 for sure not Wake. Duke maybe a package deal but Wake doesn't mean much nowadays. Wake is going to be left without a seat. There are non P5 schools like Charlotte, East Carolina and App State that are more valuable than Wake Brand is. Wake is small private school and not seen as elite as UNC and Duke. Wake has far less support politically or fanbase wise as the other in state schools.

@@tomdemay6147 Can't say I disagree with the choices but would be hard to convince schools to join the big 12 if they are getting offers from SEC or Big 10.
