for christ sakes how honestly dumb - there is no such thing as a no - tax state ! there are a few states that do not have state income tax - but they get taxes in other ways - are you people seriously this ignorant ?

As a Bolt fan, I'm of 2 minds. It sucks that Stammer is leaving. He's been here since he was 18 years old. His kids were born here. On the other hand, you just can't give out LEGACY CONTRACTS or you end up like Pittsburgh. Riding off into the sunset with old-timers while being a mediocre team. SOME team is gonna over-pay for a mid-30's Stamkos. It's bad business. Adding Guentzle, along with Kuch, Hagel, Point and the rest keeps this offense strong AND younger. Add Geekie in a couple of years and I LOVE what JBB has done.

In the past two days, they’ve not only acquired Guentzel’s rights, but from Utah received 24-year-old top-four defenseman J.J. Moser to help fill Sergachev’s minutes, a former No. 11 overall pick who immediately becomes the organization’s top prospect in forward Conor Geekie, plus added four draft picks to their inventory. Plus Jake was a plus 25 and Stamkos was a -25. So Tampa got their two way foward. He is way younger at 5 years younger. Top Shelf? A little bit younger?

@@chelious1973 he was -21 according to the NHL site, but idk i don't really pay attention to it honestly. and it's not as if stamkos has ever been known for his defensive ability anyway. when you're top 10 in GA, the majority of your team is probably trending toward the negative in +/-, which was definitely the case. brayden point, nick paul both -16, in the same ballpark.

@@ferrellgray-nz8ge I agree. I watched every game. Jake had more takeaways and is better 5v5. And 5 years younger. Not saying Jake in his prime is anywhere Stamkos when in his prime. But Stamkos isn't in his prime anymore. -21 for a center isn't good. Kuch was a +8 and led the team in plus minus for forwards. That shouldn't happen regardless how bad your defense is. Stamkos at this point is a powerpay specialist. Defensely Stamkos is a liability. Earlier in his career that was not the case even a few years ago. If your captain is a -21 and he sets the tone for the whole team something is wrong. Hard to explain to someone who is just looking at the numbers and doesn't follow the team like yourself. No offense.

Great Video, as usual, Mike. I think that this has been one of if not the biggest movement Summers, ever, especially, in A Salary Cap Period. I think that this is going to continue with so many other teams. You've got to think that many teams, such as The Rangers & The Islanders will do likewise, at the very least to avoid a not improving by attrition, right?

My heavens, look at the plus/minus difference from last year. What is it, like a +45 swing to JG. Stamkos is past his prime EXCEPT on the PP. Time to move on. Stamkos may find the results quite different next season without Hedman and Kucherov feeding him the puck on the PP. Also that injury possibility raises it's ugly head. Thank you for a wonderful HOF career, but just like with Vinny, bye bye.

lightning fan here. not really diggin this honestly. the issue with this team isn't scoring, it's GA. mac helps, losing sergachev probably doesn't. idk if stamkos walks and there's no parade next summer i'm not sure how i'll feel about BB's decision making here. course i'm commenting on yt and he's running a front office so wdf do i know.

Stamkos is almost 35 years old. Tampa's offer was not unreasonable, given cap constraints. He may find that his proposal is not greeted warmly by most teams, but someone will be crazy enough to do it. Canucks can't be happy about this development. The comparable is Pavelski, who took one year deals. Stamkos is out of line on this, so I don't blame Tampa for what they're doing. It is a business after all.

I agree with this assessment. The Canucks desperately want to sign a wing with playoffs experience. If the Canucks are in on Stamkos, and Reinhart becomes a UFA, could Vancouver go after Reinhart instead?

Not being a follower of the Pittsburgh Penguins & watching only a handful of games of Jake Guentzel's is he really the player that a lot people say he is? Serious inquiry here? Is he a player who is a driver & can make plays on his own initiative, skill & drive? Because if he isn't a driver & only a product of his environment then he might be overrated. Let's face it Crosby, Malkin, Staal & Jeff Carter are/were excellent playmakers & set up men. Much like Sebastian Aho. Where are Jesse Puljujarvi & Patrik Laine without him? Old Glen Sather said that a fire hydrant could score 40 goals playing along side of Wayne Gretzky & that was in response to a reporter question when asked about Ab McDonald scoring 40 goals on Gretzky line one year.

Just my opinion but I personally think he’s a really solid player. I heard a lot of Pittsburgh fans say Jake isn’t the same player without Crosby or Malkin. Yet he continued to show he could score in Carolina and make other players around him better

@@Hal-yc9jd Carolina had Sebastian Aho probably feeding him too. No question that Jake's a accomplished finisher. Puckpedia lists that Carolina had more natural centermen in their lineups than natural wingers & they have a impressive list of names or did last year.

Great update Mike! Let's be realistic re: Stamkos. He's 34 yo. Yes.....he has still been productive BUT mark my words.....write it down in your diary or notebook......leave a message for yourself on your phone with an alarm for 2026....in 2 years Stamkos will NOT be the player he is today and THEN TB will be thanking their lucky stars they didn't commit $8 x 8 for him. They'll hang his sweater in the rafters eventually. He'll get a TB front office job. He'll be in the HHOF BUT he ain't worth the cap hit of $8 x 8. As a Habs fan I'd love to see him in a Habs sweater for 2 seasons then send him on his way... 😊

The dynamic is bigger than some idea of loyalty, tradition, money. All you had to do is watch the lightning play night in and night out…lack of effort, pride. Lots of selfish and silly play. They didnt play hard, they didnt capitalize on opportunities. If you dont watch every night you dont see that (I am not blaming you, just saying.). It would not surprise me the movement in tampa is not over. Beyond Guentzel.

You have to be objective as a GM and Stamkos has become a one trick pony on the power play, plus his plus-minus rating is bad. Guentzel doesn't score the goas he does, but his plus-minus is much better. I think Tampa is looking to improve their defense this year with the signing of McDonough as an example, thus also looking for more defensively responsible forwards. This is just one move of other sure to come.

Last year when Stamer was struggling at the first quarter of the season I had a feeling that his tenure could come to a end in TB. They had to shake some things up in Big Johns opinion and The Lighting definitely are shaking some things up. Kinda Head Scratching moves in my opinion though

Kyle Dubas sucks. The Pens only get a 2nd and the Canes get a 3rd for Guentzel. Dubas of Toronto could of signed Bunting of Toronto last summer as a UFA and he didn't. Then he gave away Guentzel for Bunting a player he could of signed for free. I like Bunting BUT about that UFA thing? Dubas was supposed to hire a GM and he hired himself because he is a fake control freak who sucked in Toronto. Zach Hyman $5.5AAV. Jared McCann $5AAV. Tavares $11AAV. Don't forget Matt Murray and Foligno etc. Dubas sucks! FSG sucks!

Pittsburgh will be monitoring him closely & they haven't be on the record as saying that they're in a rebuild they're trying to retool on the fly. They also lately haven't been patient or showed much tolerance for losing either. He is on the clock & a short leash there imo. In retrospect he might have jumped back into the GM's position in the wrong place. Especially if they're in a hurry up situation with that aging core. Not an ideal situation imo.

🤔 So it's basically a free for all still? So whoever makes the offer that he decides is the best fit for all of his criteria's & priorities aka $, length of term & realistic shot of winning & location, location location. Close to home family & friends & possibly tax considerations. So if Toronto, Ottawa & Montreal are out then Detroit & Boston are realistic.
