Breitling Talk - Navitimer vs Chronomat 

In terms of sheer visual appeal, I prefer the Chronomat.

I like the bling of the chronomat

Keep the Navitimer. Wear a Seiko at the pool while you save up for the Chronomat.

Breitling nailed it with the new Chronomat line. That bracelet just puts it over the top.

For sure the Navitimer is the icon of Breitling, but I probably prefer the Chronomat. The bracelet looks so cool and I think it should be super comfortable.

you just cant find anything look like the chronomat. Bracelet is unique and stunning itself. The design is perfectly proportioned, the finishing of the whole watch is outstanding and the AR coating works perfectly with the high polished applied index and hands. The only downside is a bit heavy

I just checked different colors of Chronomat recently. The blue, copper or green dials are all very attractive.

That's great advice: keep the Navitimer & get a sub-2k diver; the Navitimer would be missed and Sid would regret selling it. This will happen: Bruce signs up for the Breitling Select program, gets a Chronomat, forgets he doesn't own the watch and flips it because flipping is in his DNA. Realizes his mistake and starts to panic.

The Chronomat is such a beautiful watch in person. I lean towards the durability of a water resistant watch, and I prefer a bracelet. For me, I'd make the switch.

I'm a big fan of the older style chronomat.

I love the Chronomat. I am still attached to the older ones; I have a 44. Always been my favourite. The new one is stunning though, especially in person. I buy because I like the watch, not really because they are icon status. Both amazing. Thanks for the awesome content Bruce!

I would keep the Navi as well, I do love the Chronomat and can see the appeal. Follow your heart.

When I was in the Breitling Boutique in Amsterdam, the manager told me that the chronomat is now becoming the flagship model.

I tried the Chronomat in green at the NYC boutique and WOW, absolutely gorgeous and it’s got plenty of wrist presence. I know it doesn’t carry the historical merit of the Navi, but the new Chronomat is so nice.

Fast forward 2 yrs and they are both similarly priced on the bracelets.. only difference is resale , the Navi usually fetches around £1k more on the pre-owned market

If you put both of those watches in front of me and asked "which one do you want", it would be the Chronomat all day.

The Navitimer is not intended to be a diver but more like a Dress watch. I would keep the Navi and buy the chronomat keep both in your collection. problem solved :)

Love the Chronomat 42mm - the B01 is the best chronograph coming out from Switzerland and the best looking chronograph as well

I have both of these, except my Chronomat is the previous model with the Sci Fi bezel font. I just purchased the Navitimer a few months ago, a watch I've wanted for a long time. After wearing it for a month I must admit I was not comfortable doing so. Like so many of us, I like sports watches, especially chronographs -- watches that you wear everyday and do just about anything with them. A Navitimer won't let you do that. Consider it a dress style watch with tool attributes. Nice for wearing to the office primarily. All that to say, I would suggest getting the Chronomat. I like these new ones, especially the copper dial with black sub dials version.

I loved the older model of the Chronomat. Nevertheless, Navitimer is definitely the iconic watch of Breitling. At times it does happen that one gets bored of certain things no matter how worthy or iconic that is. My guess is Sid wants a diver as a sort of beater. Unless budget is a constraint for him so my suggestion completely matches with Bruce’s. He should go for cheaper options from Rado, Longines or Seiko or Oris.

The Navitimer is a true classic, the flagship model. I would keep, and get a different (and cheaper) watch for swimming.

I just got the Chronomat over New Years, love it! The other thing is the water resistance. If you decide to go jump in the ocean and forget to take it off your okay, the Navi timer you might not be.

Navitimer is iconic. But, Bruce, what would be great would be a video on the different types of Navitimer and those that are similar, like the Montpellier. Would be great to fully understand the difference 👍

Nice Video, Bruce thank you. Wow what a tough decision. Don't know what I'd do. Guess I'd keep the Navitimer: I'd miss it too much.

The funny thing is that the Chronomat is an older model than the Navitimer and it originally looked and had similar functions to the current Navitimer. It was also the watch that helped relaunch the brand in 1984. In other words, it is rather iconic in its own right…even if the Navi usually gets that credit. FWIW, I like both and my favorite is probably the SOH 2. I own a Chrono and a SOH2 and will probably buy a Navitimer in the next few months. IMO, you shouldn’t be buying $10K watches if you can’t afford to lose a few thousand on them. Watches are not an investment they are a luxury item for people who have the money. The only exception is if you are buying yourself a “onetime” special occasion gift, like a retirement present or a 50th birthday present to yourself. If you’re worried about money you shouldn’t be buying expensive watches. If you want an investment, buy real estate or stocks.

I'm one of the rare people for whom the old-style Chronomat never appealed, but I really like the new one. I have a Navi, and am considering a Chronomat. Someone mentioned the different dial colours; the blue, copper, and green dials really pop

Chronomat for me too. The navitimer is just too busy for me. The colt is a good choice of a breitling watch, good looking and sporty . Super ocean is quite nice but a bit blingy.

I have the new chronomat and I would take that over Navitimer all day...but again my wife chose a Navitimer.. just personal preferences to be honest

I would feel silly with a watch with functions that i would have no idea to use, so no navi for me.

Keep the Navi. Agree with Bruce. For me, I would get the Omega Seamaster 300M Panda, or the Breitling Superocean 42 white dial as the dive watch, just to change up the color of what you have with the Navi.

I like the navitimer. Id keep it if were him. Mechanical Watches are about movement and pure aesthetic. If you only care about function youll get a gshock or a timex. Plain and simple.

I agree with Bruce. Of course this is only personal preference -- totally subjective -- but I love the iconic Navitimer, and could take or leave the Chronomat.

Navi is cooler, but the chrono is way more practical... However, I'd go for the latest Speedmaster, watches don't come any more iconic! They're all lovely tho. Cheers 👍🏻

Navitimer or Chronomat? My favorite choice? Both 😁 Unfortunately I have to select either the one or the other and despite the poor water resistance of the Navitimer I guess I will take it though.

I’d keep the navi. And see if i can save up for a second breitling. A superocean or an avenger . To compliment that iconic timepiece And this is coming from someone who adores the cronomat.

You have to consider Navitimer as a collector watch and not as a everyday use wrist watch. It's like a fine piece of jewelry that you only wear now and then on special occasions. If you want to trade it off then trade it off with something that has equal collectable and class value. The new chronomat is beautiful and really cool but it can't compare with the class of navitimer. Apples and oranges! I'll keep the Navitimer and save up for a good everyaday use tool watch. Wear a Casio for a couple of months. :-P

Both watches are superb. Navitimer slightly too busy but iconic. Chronomat chunky but lovely rouleaux bracelet. For me, neither BUT if Breitling did the chronomat women in blue at bigger size 40-42...game over!!! Take my money...

The previous gen chronomat crushes this imo. Yes it was big blingy and capable . Machismo personified .

The Navitimer is one of the two most iconic watches of all time, the other being the Rolex Submariner. If you love watches you need a Navi in your collection. Period. That said I wear my Chronomat more than the Navi because it is more readable and frankly I like the greater bling factor when sitting in a meeting. The Chronomat gets heavy on the wrist by the end of the day. So don’t get one, get both!!!

But a 500 $ Dive watch you can beat the heck out of and enjoy that nice breitling

NEW is NEW .Chronomat B01 .means improvement in this case.. forget the old BMW you grew up .. get the new one .. ---Navitimer now looks old and age is noticeable, years have fallen on that watch ..you can tell. Soo forget the pass move forward ..dont say you are in love with Iphone 10 becase....bla, bla bla.. shot up .. get the Iphone 13 if you have the money .

Chronomat would be my choice. The Navi is too flashy.

A $9250 watch with only 30 meters of water resistance? The water resistance alone is a good enough reason not to buy that watch. Breitling failure. I know the watch isn't meant for diving or water but for that kind of my I would expect at the very least 100 meter water resistance simply for peace of mind.

Or you get a Sinn 903. It is the original Navitimer, has 200m WR and is 5000€ cheaper.

My breitling B01 flying fish was my first luxury watch and the only one that broke! Crap brand

I agree with Bruce's suggestion, Sid. Keep the Navitimer and get a proper diver alongside it. Additionally, I would recommend getting a three hand (non-chronograph) diver to avoid redundancy.
