“this guy makes Vader look like Shawn Michaels.” Funny that this was post Montreal Screwjob and long before the eventual reconciliation with Shawn. Even after all that happened, he always gave Shawn credit for being a good worker.
Cause shawn was an amazing worker and of course bret could see that. He didn't hate his work just everything else about him. Which lets be honest he was a peice of shit.

*3:11* Bret referred to no one attempting to see if his eyes could track movements. Thank goodness Bret survived a stroke and so much more. He mentioned in his book, "My Real Life in the Cartoon World of Wrestling," that while he was in the ICU just after he had his stroke, he has "blurry memories" of his first wife Julie and his children around him and of his youngest son Blade tearfully saying, "You're the best dad that ever was!" It was very sad how his career ended yet his children could have lost their dad. Now Bret has grandchildren. He's a survivor and an inspiration.
I wish we got more matches from Bret. The guy was an artist, all the times I've seen interviews with wrestlers saying their best match was with Bret.. from Mr Perfect, British Bulldog, Stone Cold Steve Austin and more.. yet Goldberg is still wrestling, making maximum money for part time work. Bret never hurt a single guy in the ring, the worst he hurt anyone was when he punched Vince and pulled out Shawns hair :D
@@rajsahota5524 Have you got a link. Are you referring to when Bret was still a rookie wrestling in his Dad's promotion Stampede (still learning from Dynamite?) Bret wrote in his book he had never injured anyone and then 2 weeks later Bad News Brown came out and said he had a concussion from Bret. You think Bret would have known he gave an opponent a concussion? An injury is an injury, but i think you are talking about a hardcore match in which Bret hit Bad News Brown with a Kendo stick, which is a bit different..
Sounds like Bret Hart is lucky to be alive. It's amazing how little we knew or cared about concussions back then. I had a concussion 5 years ago and I'm still getting over it. I had a similar experience, no one took it seriously, people even made fun of me because they thought I was "faking" an injury. If you turn up with a broken arm, no one would ever say that.
I guess this interview was before his stroke. He still seems relatively happy enough at this point, despite the screw job/Owen’s death, and the career ending injury. The stroke was the final nail in his coffin of happiness. Poor guy.
Yeah, I but I think he's just old, nobody past the age of 40 or 50 is as happy. Your kids are all grown up and don't love you anymore, you lose hair, you're tired, you can't move much, you can't have sex - I don't know - it's hard, you can't work, and if you're like Bret you have injuries to deal with. There's much less things to smile about when you're old, I haven't yet met a happy old person.
@@aphiwematyolo1625 Rather than picking apart every word of your moronic comment, I’ll just say this…. WHAT THE HELL ARE YOU TALKING ABOUT????? 😳😳😳😳😳😳😳😳😳😳😳😳😳😳😳😳😳😳😳😳😳😳😳😳
Bret worked with Terry Funk doing Hardcore matches after this kick supposedly ended his career. When in reality, Bret falling off his bike is what really ended his career.
My father and uncle's were all independent wrestlers here in the state of Kentucky with very little fanfare besides one cousin but even watching this match as a youngster I knew the technique for the figure 4 was wrong on Goldberg's part. That leverage is a must
Life lesson. Before taking a new job with better pay, look past the money and study the company and employees. Bret showed us that money isn't everything.
@@Cutekitty12417 Vince literally told him to call WCW and see if their offer was still on the table... That's not renegotiating a deal, he wanted Bret gone
He was forced to leave WWF by Bince McMahon. He didn’t go by choice. He even turned down WCW’s $2.8 million per year offer in October of 1996 to remain with WWF for $1.5 million. A year later in October of 1997 right before Bret signed with WCW he asked Vince for the last time to tell him that if he stays what his storylines will be. Vince told him you’ll lose to HBK at Survivor Series, lose to him again at the December PPV, lose to him again at Royal Rumble, then you’ll beat him on Raw next night for the championship, and then you’ll lose the championship at WrestleMania 14 to Austin. Bret saw 4 PPV losses in a row and understood By offering him such a crappy storyline Vince was forcing him out.
Vader was known as stiff guy, especially with jobbers. He's not insulting shawn there, he's just noting a difference in style. Goldberg hit him so hard he wishes it was shawn instead.
I love Bret hart. He made wrestling real. He made the championship real not just a prop. I kills me that Goldberg (a dude I think was cool) could end Hart’s career like that.
And you're so ignorant to believe that. 1) Bret continued wrestling after the Goldberg match. 2) He wasnt pronounced unfit to wrestle until he had his bike accident in 2002. So he used a scapegoat in Goldberg.
Goldberg most certainly did NOT end Bret's career. Bret screwed Bret. Had he taken a month or two off his career would have continued on. It was the repeated concussions over the next two weeks that ended his career. Bill Goldbert did NOT make Bret wrestle those matches. He got powerbombed and chokeslammed multiple times over the next couple of weeks. He admits in this interview that he had concussions in each of those matches. Thats 110% on him. I had a nasty concussion when I was in high school, and I had to take 3 days of rest at home, and then no sports or any serious physical activity for a week (and I certainly wouldn't have been cleared for anything like wrestling or football for at least a month). That was in the mid 80's. By the mid 90's they knew more about concussions and any doctor would have told Bret to take a minimum of a month off. He chose not to see a doctor sooner. He chose to wrestle those matches when he KNEW he had a concussion. Hell, after the 2nd concussion he still may have been able to come back, but he needed at least two months off at that point. And he kept wrestling and getting further concussions. Bret screwed Bret.
I feel bad for The Hitman. He mixed it up with the wrong wrestler. Too bad he didn't have the insight to just walk out after that first elbow. Such a dangerous profession. Just goes to show your life hangs by a thread every time that you step in the ring and hear that bell ring.
It sucks but at the same time had Bret not gotten hurt in 1999, WCW still would’ve went out of business in 2001. After that Bret would have nowhere to go since he was still many years away from his reconciliation with Vince.
Goldberg was basically Ultimate Warrior, but a decade later. He had a great look, a great theme, great entrance- charisma through the roof... but he was a nightmare to work with. Strong as an ox, but a tad reckless and inexperienced. Didn't appreciate that his opponents were giving their bodies to him.
@@GrassValleyGreg- At first, I looked at Bret as the whiny bad guy in all of this - until I heard Bill defend himself by saying ' I was just doing my job'. He didn't seem to care that he legit hurt this man. When Bill hurt Scott Steiner in a match, he had to make sure that his 'friend' was really ok. He didn't seem to care that he hurt Bret. This is the first (and the last) time you will hear any negative comments about Goldberg coming from me.
Have you tried vestibular rehab? Also seeing a neurologist is key too. I was in your position now I can say, although I do have some bad days, I’m pretty well back to normal.
I was there live at the MCI center. If I had known I would have helped Bret to his car and get him the help he needed. Unfortunately I was just an 18 year old ‘Mark’ back then. Thank you for all you’ve sacrificed Hitman. The Best there Ever Will Be!
Bret Hart is a legend!!He is the best no doubt in that a great technical wrestler!!But Bill did not do it purpose he is a good dude!!Accidents happen but one can understand where Bret Hart comes from!!One of my favorite wrestlers growing up Bret Hart for life
After 15 years in pro wrestling getting every type of kick, punch, bomb, chair and table, I can't believe that one kick from Goldberg destroyed his life. It may have been the final straw, but it wasn't the only one.
Let's not forget how Hart kept wrestling after the kick, working hardcore matches receiving chair shots to the skull, even thought he was feeling extremely bad and knew something was wrong with him.
Because it didnt. Bitter Bret is a narcissist. Bret worked a month long hardcore program in WCW with Terry Funk AFTER this supposed kick ended his career. When in truth , Bret fell off his bicycle back in Calgary , hit his head, stroked out, and ended his own career.
That kick WASN'T the final straw. The 3 or 4 futher concussions he had over the next couple of weeks were the final straws. He might have been able to continue wrestling even after the 2nd concussion if he took two months off. But he kept wrestling even after that! The Goldberg kick was a wake up call, and Bret ignored it.
@@jeffovington6375 They didn't even think about the last technical wrestler to face Greenberg. Regal said that he had to move him around and babysit him. Greenberg had a stinking attitude and wouldn't let Bret do a Davey on him and allow Bret to call every spot.. and Davey in 92 was a very good worker.. bar the 3 days on coke prior.
Correct.... I fell from a ladder onto a concrete floor and was knocked out for 60 minutes.... My mom shows up at hospital 🏥 and Dr. asks her if I am over 18 (not me or if I am ok with her being there because my mom should have been; Head Injury = Altered Mental Status and I can't exactly give informed consent or be the informed recipient of information....) I remember seeing paper but never the instructions until 2 years later!
The main thing is he survived, and he is in good health to this day..it was unfortunate how his career ended...but his kids could've lost thier dad...and thankfully that didn't happen.
@@foreverunsaved6661 To my knowledge Bret Hart never seriously injured another wrestler. Bret even said so in his hall of fame speech. Even as good as Owen was in the ring, he still injured Steve Austin.
The Hitman is the best wrestler of all time for me. I love Flair, there's no one on the mic like him and a great worker. Stone Cold is my favorite of all time and was an insane draw. Bret Hart was a phenomenal wrestler when he was in the ring and he was an immaculate worker. It's a damn shame that his career was cut short.
Concussions are scary. I sustained atleast 3 from playing football in highschool. The main thing that i remember is the instant ringing in my ears and the light of any kind become blinding. I prided myself on playing every play my team needed me so I never got checked out after any of them. In retrospect knowing what we know now about the seriousness of CTE and what it can lead too, I wish I had gone to the hospital. Tension headaches, short term memory loss and an inability to focus on tasks at hand are just some of the adverse side effects I have to this day over 20 years later.
And then I realized that I wasn't the best that ever was. I'd been saying this for so long that I started to believe it myself. I hardly ever throw a temper tantrum's anymore. I'm almost all grown up. Brett Hart
To say that goldberg kicked him with every ounce of strength he had in his body is rediculas. I mean the kick looked like it was fake to me and the impact was not as bad as he was making out here. I think he really milked this because he didnt like the guy. Ive seen much worst impacts this guys just loves to moan about everything. Never known anyone as negative. He just want the sympathy because things never went his way in the end. He's full of it.
Only thing ridiculous is this comment. The kick looked fake yet hit with enough force to snap the muscle in his neck and give him a concussion so bad it ended his career 🤔 honestly take a second and listen to what you’re saying. Goldberg has a history of being clumsy and injuring people. He ended Brets career , why wouldn’t he be bitter when the last thing he said before they went to the ring was “don’t hurt me” . Everyone knew what he was like and Goldberg simply didn’t give a shit

I mean have you actually seen the video?!?! The guy was able to get up and walk out of there appearing to be fine. You cant "Snap a muscle" in your neck and walk it off. The guy would streight up not be able to move. It also happens to be an injury thats hard to argue with because its difficult to prove. I could say I had neck or back pain and there would be no way to tell if I was lying or not even by a doctors examination/scan. Always a go to excuse from people that and I dont beleive it for a second here. Your obviously a big fan of bret and he cant do anything wrong in your mind but really look at the kick and how he was after it and tell me that he had a life changing injury that took his career away. Come off it and open your damn eyes.
I used to love watching Goldberg back in the day but in all honesty he was never a safe wrestler to work with. People used to talk about Ryback being careless or dangerous in the ring but Goldberg wasn't that much different. Brett was lucky his neck wasn't damaged even more than it was from that kick
22 years later Bret isn’t letting it go. I don’t blame Bret. Dude really was cost millions of dollars from Time Warner. Bill I know feels guilty but Bret will always remind him about it in shoot interviews and Bill’s got to live with that which sucks.
The fact he kept working after the Goldberg match also heavily contributed to his early retirement. That’s is on Bret. He could’ve easily taken time off as it was WCW.
@@South_0f_Heaven_ - Yep. His career could have continued had he taken a month or two off. He didn't, and that's on him. Goldberg didn't end his career. @@AnEternalEnigma - Not true at all. People DO recover fully from concussions all the time. IF they get the proper rest and don't do anything to cause further brain injury for the next month or two. I've had a nasty concussion myself. In 1985. I know what it's like.
Toxic energy depression vibes, he talked about bad luck & got it. Don’t talk about what you don’t want to happen, be proactive of it and avoid it instead 💫
The thing was most people didn't really know how serious hart's injury was during the time that it happened, Like I knew he got injured for real from getting kicked in the head by goldberg but I didn't really know that he had ten percent brain damage after it happened.
It's brets karma for burying Bill and making out bill somehow did it on purpose to hurt Bret and ruin his career. He's so bitter it's unreal. Like seriously? I don't see how he thought Bill wanted to actually hurt him. He REFUSES under any circumstances to accept that bill made a mistake and it was am accident. He's created a narative in his head basically convinced bill pretty much planned this for weeks and exicuted his plan of destroy brets life. It's beyond sad to see even to this day the sheer hatred he has for Bill and no matter what anyone says/ What Bill says, he refuses to forgive him or forget and to this day labels Bill like he took joy and pleasure in planning and executing his plan to take out Bret. It's sad, and Bret will die the bitter old man he has always been.
@@jaycuthbert245 Goldberg wasn't a seasoned worker- he was all gimmick. I assume Bret's concussion wasn't intentional on Bill's part- but wrestlers have to take care of each other. @@GrassValleyGreg yeah it was a mistake on bills part but Bret is put of order for the brutal burial he puts on Bill and shamelessly blame Bill as if he's scum of the earth. His hatred for Bill has never subsided and it's actually gotten worse as the years have gone on. Bret needs to realise what you just said, he was still greens and still learning. More importantly he needs to stop with the vast comments aimed at Bill and accept that bill ofcourse never ment to hurt Bret. It was a mistake and an accident. And Bill doesn't deserve the sheer brutality of brets mouth every time they talks about him. If you've listened to some of the shoot interviews he's mentioned Bill it's rather disgusting some of the stuff he says.
@@jaycuthbert245 Bill did just fine for himself, it doesn't appear that he suffered professionally from Bret's criticism. But Bret is right, Bill was reckless. Bret has every right to be bitter about the concussion that ended his career. It wasn't just that one kick, unfortunately Bret carried on without recovering from the initial major concussion, and suffered several more micro-concussions over the next few months before he realized something was wrong. Bret was old school, and was about as reliable a wrestler there was. He always showed up, worked his ass off, ate a job if he had too- and mastered his craft.. So for a guy like Goldberg to come along and knock his block off... I understand Bret's resentment. And he's not wrong. All of that said, Bret was a bitter man after Montreal, despite his epic WCW contract. Bret hated every minute in WCW lol- great money, but he obviously hated every last minute.

He says the kick was to the back of the head. I have watched the tape so many times. The kick wasn’t to the back of the head. It was front right towards the side
Bret Is The Greatest Imo. Flair is up there too for entertainment. But for pure Pro Wrestling, Mix and technique, natural ability, skill, entertaining matches, imo btet is the best ever.
Wow he was not that negativ here about Bill here but when the Years gone one he got more angry about the Kick. I still don't blame Bret for rating about it , i think Goldberg was always too much of a mark for himself and should have been more careful in the ring. But it is what it is.
I'd be lying if I said Bill didn't entertain me, but now that all this stuff has come out about him having been a danger to work with, I can't believe he got into the hall of fame. I mean, he was famous, so I guess he "deserves" it on that level, but it just doesn't feel okay being that he ended Bret's career and nearly did the same to taker.
The irony being almost all of Goldbergs appeal was how real and violent his moves looked. At the time I was a teenage mark eating it up. Seriously compare Goldbergs spear in his prime to anyone else's like edge and it doesn't even look like the same move. Goldberg folded dudes up in the most brutal fashion and that's the main he reason he got so over. I'm glad we are starting to know better now but if you think Bret got it bad watch Goldbergs matches with jobbers. He nearly killed them and the only benefit they had was it was almost always short squash matches. Imagine how badly he messed up their lives to get over and how we'll never hear their story. Brets right as usual.
Goldberg was an untalented fool, only got over because if his look and reckless style that lower card guys had to just put up with. Then his matches with bigger stars sucked because hd couldn't do as much of his reckless stuff he couldn't have a decent wrestling match if his lofe depended on it
He got concussed but recalls what he said right before going to the ring? I’ve been concussed numerous times. One time in a game I got hit so hard I don’t remember playing in the game at all. I think this guy had a CAREER full of head injuries that culminated in the end of his career. Sad. Yes. But blaming one shot that didn’t even knock you out for a stroke you had way later after you’ve had brain scans looking for damage. Cmon man.
Watched Goldberg on Stome Colds Show. Goldberg wants to be displayed as a humbled guy. Yeah works if you put out sentences like " I watched the other guys in the the ring and they all wanted to be me"
Who knows? I’ve met Bret and he wasn’t particularly friendly to me. I’ve also met Goldberg and he was very friendly to me. They’re both humans who have good days and bad days.
Goldberg gets too much heat for ending Hart's career. He kept wrestling with a concussion, getting "choke slammed every night." Bill was just the catalyst.
God he’s such a baby. I’ve seen that move over and over and over and that kick didn’t land the way he says it did. And an elbow feeling like a pillowcase with a brick in it? Okay Mr. CTE…
Have you been elbowed in the face by a steroid fueled 270 lbs man before? And wait, how can he have CTE if he's making up this Goldberg story? He's far from the only one to talk about how dangerous Goldberg was early in his career. Hell, he was dangerous late in his career too. Ask Taker about that one. Bret only had his career cut short by five to ten years because of Goldberg. That's at least ten million dollars in earnings he missed out on. He has every right to be bitter.
He does like to wine a lot. He wouldn't even give up the belt knowing he was going to the WCW. If McMahon let him do that it would have destroyed the WWF back then. McMahon made the right decision and he knew it and that's why he did it.
I’m glad he’s living his best life and making money. Athletes get concussions. It sucks. I’m no expert and certainly I’m not Bret. That said a wrestler retiring months, and hardcore matches after a kick. Doesn’t exactly scream the kick was the culprit. Being “the best there ever was” for a wrestler with 0 charisma in a promotion that is pushing characters over talent, would be a better reason to retire, in my opinion. It is unfortunate that his concussion didn’t get him over like the screw job, and the stroke finished it.
@@EM-tg4ft I don't know about Dupree, but he didn't injure Undertaker at all, he had his arms behind Undertaker's neck and there was no impact whatsoever lol it was true he botched it and it could've been bad had Goldberg not put his arm behind Taker's neck. As for Scott Steiner, Steiner himself told Goldberg to land stiff shots at him backstage. And Goldberg did as Steiner told him. Can't blame Goldberg for that.
Why after 20 some years is Bret bringing this up, he never raised this much hell back then. Bad that it happened and Goldberg has apologized many times over what the hell more does he have to do?
Dude this interview is from years ago, holy shit. Look at how young Bret looks in this, he has white hair now and not to mention has had multiple strokes.
@@Mayunholdup duh huh , I know this is from years ago. My point is Bret is bringing all this up here recently and don’t forget he went onto wrestle more matches after this incident, Bill has apologized profusely what more can he do?
Bret was easily one of the greatest wrestlers ever. Top three for sure, I would have no problem putting him number one. Goldberg was a hack who had no idea how to work a match, tell a story or do anything interesting in the ring.
This was the fresh post interview on the goldberg injury. Now wcw at this point was ran like a joke. Bret was clearly hurt and no one took care of him afterwards. Given a couple advil. Lol. Any EMT doing a Legit diagnosis would know he's fucked up and needs to go to the hospital. See in the ufc once you suffer a concussion the athletic commission strictly forbids any head contact or contact of any kind for 90 days minimum afterwards. This is why ufc fighters who get brutally ko'd can come back after 7 or 8 months. After the Starrcade match Bret needed to be taken off the road immediately. After subsequent match he had afterwards was putting layers on top of layers on an already injured brain. Facing sid and nash and Terry funk in a hardcore match? Damn. None of that should have happened. I'd like to say goldberg ended his career. But wcw did as well by not taking care of Bret and I even put some blame on Bret for not stepping in for his own health and saying wait a minute I'm messed up. But he just won the world title. The big gold belt. That meant a lot to Bret. But there needed to be powers to save you from yourself. I think if proper post concussion protocols were followed much like in the ufc. Brets career wouldn't have been ended.
I don't want to hate anybody but it makes it hard not to hate Goldberg and it's whoever was responsible for any of this being allowed to go on it was known that he was a dirty fighter I mean why is he still getting respect in any capacity and still being allowed to fight after all this
