I really think every faction should have that, at least to some extent. Like it's kind of silly that you can't convert normal archers to poison archers, etc.
@@jamolotl Agree, it pisses me off that the fantastic unit of dwarf warriors that helped me out through multiple battles just gets thrown in the scrap heap because (for example) I can recruit Longbeards at rank 6 from local recruitment. To be able to upgrade would give me continuity with that unit that's been with you right from the start without gimping your battle line. Thematically it would be great also as they progress to Longbeards and then become elite Ironbreakers over time. I'd even take a loss of say, 3 chevrons, to be able to upgrade them.
Bretonnia (the region) looks absolutely beautiful in Immortal Empires. Really feels like a fairytale land. I think it's one region that has really benefitted from the brighter lighting and more vibrant art style of game 3.

With Alberic build stables and grail building to make a force of Knight's of the realm and grail fanatics. Leave bregone and go wherever you want. I went on an insane crusade wherever demons are. Then I took lothern for myself and became a trade powerhouse. For ze Lady!
I think it's important to note that Repanse's quest battle for her sword is currently bugged and is not completable; make sure to get a mod that lets you autoresolve quest battles if you're going to play Repanse right now.
For the lady! Also for some reason, only Louen has the item set bonus that CA said they were giving the legendary lords with 2+ items. At least in my game.

I found Bordeleaux was an incredibly fun campaign and its easily my favorite of the 4 right now, but I also ended up with a very different campaign where I didn't end up at war with the hunstmans until past turn 100. I just took my first province, left the enemy faction alive, killed the vampire coast faction to the south east. I didn't even know the demon factions existed because itza and the huntsmans expedition killed them both off I had sailed over to help lyonesse and the rest of brettonnia before turn 30 since the south east was in total peace.
Previously a Repanse fan, this time I really enjoy the Bordeleaux campaign (completed it 3 times for science). My main issue with Bordeleaux specifically is the lack of lizardmen fighting bonus tech and I'm not sure the chaos tech works effectively against the tzeentch/khorne subfactions. And the quest asking you to take Sartosa - if you do it you'll meet 3-4 new factions that will declare war on you and send ships your way even as their capital cities get besieged. Manageable but still requires 2 armies permanently mobilized on your northern coast. My usual strategy : - 1) Have the lord join army, set up vows, Beat up the lizardmen at war, recruit knights errant every chance you get. - 2) Research asap the human lizardmen friendship tech to get an early empire alliance and easy non agression with southern lizards. They'll shield you from Vampires and pretty much guarantee an easy cheese west against dark elves & tomb kings. - 3) Then research dark elves tech and start heading south, tzeentch & khorne subfactions will rip each other apart you just need to be patient to pick up the cities almost for free, then head west. - - 4) Empire will rush the northern Lustria elves, you can choose to ignore this province or take scraps but it will severely weaken them in the long run fighting Mazdamundi past turn 60 or so. - 5) Make sure you build farms everywhere and don't go above the peasant cap. Keep 2 armies pushing at all times, with your stronger in ambush mode with a sweet 80% thanks to jungle. You'll cheese dark elves and wabam, you control like 1/3 of Lustria and make a shit ton of gold. - 6) The rest is fairly easy, just keep in mind once Mazdamundi and Empire are at war Both Itza & Sotek WILL betray you if you allied with Empire, I usually do so to get a free war with them without penalties. They will have armies ready to take your closest cities, you should prepare for it. Usually you have time to take all the Vampire Coast cities before that happens, having more than enough gold to prepare large armies of knights - 7) Profit (and don't forget to cheese gold visiting shipwrecks around) - 8) piece of advice : with the anti player bias in this game, I strongly advise against granting military access freely to half the planet for better diplomacy, the return on investment will be poor and everyone they encounter and their whole families will declare war on you. Sometimes Empire will declare war on Elves, make sure you don't take your relationship above "Defensive Alliance" with them. Thanks for the artillery units anyway! You can choose to totally ignore original Bretonnia, let them die out to Orcs or Vampires. I find it not worth pursuing the confederacy path with them, at least early on. All of Lustria with trade routes everywhere makes you richer than you'll ever need to be. So far I've always expanded to "Europe" or "North America". This time around I have once more conquered all of Lustria save for Empire regions & the Pool lizards so I can enjoy some diverse units, preparing for ultimate crisis, then I'll use the sea lane to expand in "China" and see where it takes me.
I just wish each Lord hade their own type of theme. I'd like to see each lord buff up/give bonuses to specific types of units. For exampel: Fay Enchantress - trebuchets, grail guardians Louen Leoncuer - Hippogryph knights/ upkeep bonuses Alberic - Foot squires/ upkeep bonuses Repanse - Quesnting Knights/Peasants
On legendary that 15% replenishment puts the Fay Enchantress way at the top for me, since as a faction they are kind of lacking in that area. I get that her campaign isn't exactly the most interesting though.
Never played Bretonnia despite a thousand hours in WH2. I'm doing all the factions in alphabetical order in Immortal empires. Just about to finish up Taurox for Beastment. Bretonnia's next. Your vids are helping choose which lord I should choose for each one. Thanks a lot.
Kinda nuts how much time you put into these videos. Really appreciate, probably the best basics know what for both this game and mount & blade i've seen.
So, the Vow that he suggests to pick for Repanse here is a trap. That vow requires that one kill a Legendary character of those named factions. It is considerably easier and faster in almost all cases for ALL lords/ladies wishing to complete the Grail Vow to simply pick the one that only requires killing 5 of any kind of Lord/Lady. :) Also, there's lots of folks complaining about the 2nd Vow being bugged. If they are meaning the defeat a legendary character, that could be bugged in some cases. I haven't yet tested it on all characters in WH3 IE that it should work on, but it was bugged back in WH2 that it wouldn't work when defeating Rakarth for example. That one is a trap, and either the sea battle option, or the siege battle in a desert or jungle option will almost always be better and safer picks. Note, for the siege battle in desert/jungle, this siege MUST be at a MAJOR settlement. It will only trigger on the main army doing the attack and any reinforcement armies won't trigger the effect, similar to the battle at sea option. Not sure if it works on defensive sieges, I don't come across those much outside of early game before it's even a choice. Additionally, there could be a bug with Paladin heroes not getting credit for it even when they should be. I don't recall it being bugged like this in WH2 but I'm not 100% sure. One Paladin in the army seems fine and credit is given as it should be if the lord is also getting it. Possibly if 2 or more Paladins need that Vow, it might not trigger for either. I'd have to do more testing to find out! All that being said, the Vow system sucks. I really hope they fix all the bugs or annoyances with it at the very least. A rework of Bretonnia's whole system would be nice too imho. Feels clunky compared to all of the new stuff from late WH2 and beyond.
I agree, it is a huge pain having to pick a new vow every time you complete one, especially towards late game when you have a bunch of Lords trying to complete their vows. The second vow is such a huge pain in the butt to complete. I almost always have to go out of my way to complete that vow. It also seems silly that there are no vows/ update related to the new chaos factions. I would imagine that Bretonia would hate chaos way more than skaven or something.
@@akanuwolf 2nd vow is easy, just sail a lord to a sea wreck/island that is placed just off the coast and auto resolve the battle, as its really easy. Bam, you have completed the quest auto resolving 1 battle.
Bret and dwarfes are probably the saddest factions in the entire trilogy Not a single new unit or ROR through the years for Brets If feels like some factions like lizards have more RORs than Brets have standard units total I'm really hoping for a big update and the fact that the undead got it brings hope
@@thomasfleming8131 I keep hearing this argument but tbh if we relied on official lore only we'd never have factions like vampire coast, kislev, cathay, units like great stag knights or hyppo knights etc. With the amount of power creep brought with game 3 and WoC dlc they don't even need to invent new units, they can just update the old ones to be more functional and cool. These old factions really just feel very.. old I dunno Beastmen update showed that CA can make the most haggard of old factions fun when they want to

CA already went beyond the source material with Royal Pegasus Knights, Hippogriff Knights and Grail Guardians. But it's harder for them than most other factions in the game. Kislev and Grand Cathay were collaborations with GW as they make Old World, which makes Vampire Coast the only one that they've really had to redesign themselves. I'm not trying to discredit CA's designers, but I also don't blame them for fleshing out the rosters that are easier to flesh out

"Expand the Bretonnian colony" is a weird way to say "exterminate the lizard men" I also keep getting the empire declared war on me, but I think that's a bug with Normal difficulty making Order faction leaders act aggressive but at other order factions
I loved Alberic for his bonuses (faster knight recruitment and better trade), but Skinkies are meant to be loved and protected not lanced and trampled. I'd have to pick Louen overall.
Love these videos especially as a new player to the Warhammer series. Gives me a great starting point for my campaigns. I'm sure you're getting to this, but I'd love to hear your take on the High Elves.
Repanse has always been a very fun Campaign due to her Starting Province literally being the best due to it being a 4 Region Province in Warhammer 2, but also no roadblock, as the 2 Errantry Bretonnian Faction will join your Faction after defeating their main opponent.
In Warhammer 3 I would say she’s slightly weaker, because her starting province has only 3 regions and not 4 like in 2. Also the AI sucks BALLS. In my experience the nearby Bretonnians and dwarves consistently get absolutely steamrolled by the tomb kings from the south. Making confederation very hard and taking the regions requires war
The Fay Enchantress is by far the most refreshing campaign I've played in this game recently. Great start, great enemies, fun mechanics, replenishment, very powerful Legendary Lord.
He is on a roll at putting the best LL of each faction as the worst on his list. Fey Enchantress is the strongest LL for Brettonia. He is either trolling or he mentioned some criteria at some point that I missed.
Just started a Repanse campaign, and I get what you mean about slowing down after decimating the undead around you. Ended up having alliances with the dwarves and the empire in that corner of the world. Although it is fun including maelstrom rockets to a bretonnia army haha.
When I played Bordeleaux I went straight for the relationship with men tech & that forged me a great alliance with Markus that was very beneficial as I field his empire infantry as my main infantry line, they have better stats than bretonnia's peasant infantry even with 3 points in the red skills. You can also do this with Lizardmen or high elves early on to get a good melee line without using any peasant capacity. I bee-lined for the demons & took them out early, researched diplomacy with lizards to get them on-side for war against vampire coast, and I had every threat on Lustria either on-side or killed except rakarth very early. Those unit exchanges really benefit bretonnia by plugging up their melee weakness/peasant cap problem that makes the early game a slog for them.
It could just be me, but I feel like the main thing hampering the 2 LLs in Bretonia proper is the empire. It takes up a huge chunk of the area east of you, but you have no real incentive to fight them, so they kind of act as a barrier.
CA needs to pop the cherry and just give us Betrand (the Warhammer Fantasy Robin Hood expy) and the less savory highway robber side of Bretonnia Complete with those Crossbowmen, Hermit Knights, Herrimaults and Faceless

@@Anttown123 I'm noticing it really depends on what faction you're playing. Something like Greenskins or Daemons of Chaos, etc. with no trade or anything, it's all about keeping costs down.
I've been one of the biggest Bretonnia simps since WH1 with Alberic being my favourite. His starting location was perfect after you dealt with Massive Orcal and the Red Duke but his new start in Lustria is so over powered and broken. I managed to get over 300k gold with 23k per turn with him on VH/VH by turn 70.
What did you do? I tried to leave the lizards alone, made defensive ally with Markus, and then sailed back for Bretonnia. Then the lizards attacked Markus. It's been rough. Should I have just kept taking all of Lustria?
@@Bertoleyus First off I wipe out the Daemons as soon as possible with Alberic and began moving west towards the Dark Elves. Wiping them out gives me a positive relationship with Gor-Rok so I ally with him and pay off Markus into non aggression, further alliances when you have the money. While I'm doing that, Luthor makes his move on you but Vampire Coast are laughably bad at attacking you so a normal garrison wipes out their 20 stacks easily enough but I put a damsel lord there just incase and then slowly build up an army to go on the offensive. It's up to you if you want to research the tech for buffs against VC, Dark Elves and Daemons, I did but it didn't feel necessary. After wiping out Luthor, push to take the Volcanic islands and then you'll have as many ports on each coast. Honestly then just let Gor-Rok and Markus carve up the north and south so you're safe in the center. Use your minor settlements to push nothing but the economy, the ports will give you growth so don't worry about that. Send heroes out to discover as many faction as you can and get those trade agreements going. Ignore all diplomacy, combat and confederation tech and only focus on growth and economy. That'll lower overall upkeep. Once you have outposts with your allies, swap your troops with allied troops as they don't affect the peasant income mechanic and that'll increase money. Then if you're getting a bit bored from the lack of fighting, then take Alberic across to where Nakai is and steal all his lands. I played a long campaign victory with only 2 armies and the second wasn't doing anything besides guarding the border incased Noctilus attacks. That only happened very late into the campaign and was easily crushed.
@@Bertoleyus Allying with Markus pisses the Lizards off so definitely befriend Gor-Rok first and just pay Markus off until he's happy to accept you as well.
one of the things bretonnia needs imo is an infantry line that doesnt break after 10seconds of fighting. I get it, thats supposed to be their weak point, at the same time we have lots of factions that have 2 great things, dwarves for example have great guns and infantry
Repanse - or Jeanne, as she's better named in the French version of the game - is my absolute favorite bretonnian LL. The character, her hero, the crusading campaign, etc. Alberic's campaign seems very interesting though... a pity the Empire is apparently hostile, but that should be fixed. I'll wait for an update, - tbh the old races feel quite "behind" rn, as expected, especially with the new DLC. The other 2 in Bretonnia are just boring. I don't like sitting on my a$$ waiting for invaders to come.
I didn't have any problem with the empire on my playthrough. They weren't trusting, but we stayed on neutral terms until I got the diplomacy tech that made us the best of friends. That, and I killed vampirates.
Ive played a bit of the Fay enchantress campaign. I like the changes so far. She gets a paladin instead of the lore of beasts damsel (WH2), so you have a fighter and a spellcaster in your first army. Uniting Bretonnia is great for me, because no way I would conquer all of this with peasants. I love the new victory conditions, you now have a short victory which requiers no chivalry to complete.
For everyone trying Bretons for the first time, its not necessary to buff up peasents. just go Lord spam early and let them do the work. Bretonian Lords are actually pretty strong early and you can prepear them for later (you need that Vows going)
Had the same happend to Markus campaign tho it was in Coop We did manage to complete it later down the road after 5 times diffrent turns. Tho alot of the follower quests for him are broken forever.
Alberic campaign is insanely easy... you can take over all of South Amer-- i mean Lustria pretty easy. Secure your northern border with an alliance to Hexoatl and then return to Bretonnia as the king and save everyone
Alberic's campaign is pretty fun, but I ended up allied to the empire very early and they dragged me into war with the rest of lustria. Will note that there are at least 2 skaven factions there too so there is a lot to fight even before you end up ticking off Itza.
Compared to Empire, Brettonia aged much better imo, they're still fun to play with mechanics that aren't very strong but still works. And cav got better than in WH2, which helps Brettonia quite alot
The Fay would have a much better campaign if she had to build shrines to Ze Lady in all 4 corners of the map. That would make her so much fun. Build a shrine in the Black Pyramid of Nagash 😂
I would have thought Alberics faction would have had a unique tech tree like Repanse since he is on a crusade in Lustria so should have buffs against lizards
I really wish Alberic and Markus would like... Not hate eachother for no reason... I played a campaign as Markus and Alberic declared on me on like turn 6, lol.
The problem I have with Bretonnia was the lack of attention in WH2, and I still think their attention in WH3 is somewhat lackluster. The vow system was totally idiotic in WH2. Repanse all her lords could easily get to next tiers, because she fights in the sand. While Louen ones were struggling to find sea battles or either Dark elves LL or chaos LL so couldnt progress. Yeah there was Rakarth in Albion, but he was bugged. Also I hate how the lords vows didnt progress with Chivalry progress (which stops at tier 2 anyway). There was a severe lack of enemies for Bretonnia in WH2, thats why Alberic is probably moved although its sad because that means no Marcel of Parravon. But I would have loved to see some additional non-bretonnia settlements like f.e. Graves of Culieux (vampire mayb) and or Fortsummerfall/Glanborielle (orcs,). Also on the last year released GW Old world map we see Wood Elves in the Forest of Arden. Also the Black Chasm would have been excellent additional non-Bretonnia settlement. Also I hate how we had a ton of random minor factions in Araby, while Antoch was not a bretonian settlement. While by lore its the biggest outside of Bretonnia itself. Not even special building. New units, specially the lack of heroes, like a castellan engineer would have been cool. So yeah I am not really content with how Bretonnia came out of WH2. They really have nothing cool. Its still the same static campaign it was before.

All you have to do is auto resove one of those points of interests just off the coast and you complete it. you get a heap of gold and a vow completion for auto resolving 1 fight.
@@xPureAndTheTaintedx which is purely rng based if they spawn around you or no. You can complete maybe 2 lords for the first 50 turns while Repanse lords just needs to win a battle in the sand.
I hope they will get an update soon to modernise their mechanics and give more variety to the troops, because unfortunately bretonnia is the only good-guy rush faction.
Can someone explain why is it that in videos legendary lords have completely different damage levels at level 1. Here, ItalianSpartacus has 480 damage level same as in TW2. All of my TW3 campaigns in Immortal Empires have new levels of damage starting at around 240, like it's a different version of the game or what is going on? I have all the DLCs/FLCs, latest patche, no content mods (UI mods - construction progression icons and coloring change + better camera mod).
Go to settings - graphics and set unit size to Ultra (if your PC allows it). Damage now scales of unit zise and TWW3 is balanced around ultra unit size
Yes, same here - I love Repanse the most of the Bretonian Lords, but the quest battle is not working - I kill all the Tomb units but the battle won't end. Hope this get fixed soon.
The fay enchantress really needs her quest items reworked. Most quest items in WH3 do 3-6 things. She's the best bretonnia faction but her items aren't that great.
Actually i find that vows are bugged, at least the one that have to battle in a jungle or desert. Alberic was literally fighting on jungle and i didnt obtain shit lol.
The bugged quest you are talking about here is likely the Questing Vow where one must win a siege battle in a jungle or desert region. Sadly, this requires that the siege battle happen in at a major settlement. It has been like this since WH2. Also, just like the Manaan one, only the primary army's Lord or Lady and Paladins in that army will get credit for it. Any reinforcement armies won't get credit. I'm not sure if this can trigger in a defensive major settlement siege, but I assure you that it works at least on offensive ones, even in WH3 IE! :)
Of the 8 Bretonnian full map campaigns over TWWH2 and 3 the four in the 3rd game are the worst: because of stupid minor settlement battles. TWWH2 is a vastly superior game.
Never really played bretonnia before but at least on legendady louens position seems bad. Because of the peasant limit you cant make more then 1 army very easily and the knights errant suck so you need to get to tier 3 before you can get anything decent. I actually found myself relying on artillery.
I like these series. However it shows how little interest CA did put into actually updating the game and making it work , enjoyable, challenging and fun for all races. FLaming attacks vs those races is almost garbage. In WH2 it was utterly shit, now at least it reduces healing rate.
Tomb King and Vampire lords have weakness to fire and it stops healing by 50% on all units. Its very strong. Game is also a beta, im sure there will be changes coming for underperforming factions.
@@expandeux Warhammer 3 Immortal Empires has not been out for 7 years. CA said its officially a BETA and things will be adjusted as they go. You know the skill doesnt just give flaming attacks right? i know you cant see any value in it, but there so many worse skills than this in the game.
