I actually miss those days being like ten years old sick home from school playing video games and laying down. Even when I was truly sick and had chills and felt weak, I enjoyed the comfort.

I’ve never been able to successfully lie my way to staying home, my mom and dad were just too clever. So I had to actually be kind of sick and dramatically make it seem worse.

In the UK we called these shenanigans Skiving off lol

I got lucky as a kid, my mom let me and my brothers have mental health days off from school decades before it became a thing. Just as long as we didn’t abused it, we could stay home, and my mom would write a fake sick note for us to take to school the next day. She was really ahead of her time.

Ah, as a child I master the art of playing hooky.... The most important part is to not just wake up one morning and be sick no you have to plant the seed weeks ahead of time. A little cough here and little scratchy throat there. After a few days of that, you go to bed early than normal turn down things you like to do out of the blue. Then you zero in on the date you want to stay home and you sell it the night before with some coughing and whatnot and make sure your mom brings up being sick 1st and boom your chilling at home watching talk shows and playing video games this method never failed .

My mom would always watch the price is right on fridays at 11. I would sometimes come home from school after an early dismissal and see her watching it.

My mum used to let us stay home if we threw up. One day I forced myself to throw up and excitedly walked up to her and said "I threw up. That means I get to stay home, right?" and that ended us being allowed to stay home when we threw up.

My mother was the one to do the “play hooky” stuff. Mostly because she knew I was a terrible liar and a straight A student and thought I needed a break

Can totally relate to the hooky setup. Was fun for a bit, till the school catches on and serves you a Saturday school detention. Then you're in a classroom with a bunch of much older high school future drop outs, listening to conversations that no 12 year old should hear, talking about pregnancy and where they got laid. And that is why I was determined to obtain my high school diploma, and yes, I did exactly that. Never played hooky after that Saturday detention

I played hookey when I was too stressed at school. This was about 15 years before “mental health days” were a thing. My mom knew this but let me stay home anyway, because I did better in school when I had my “fun days”.

This reminds me of every 90s cartoon I saw that did an episode on playing hooky. The kids had a terrible time and ended up missing something real fun at school. Hey Arnold did that, Rocket Power did, and other shows I'm forgetting about.

Literally laughed every second of the video

All the different little antics I've pulled as a child to play hooky. Good times. One thing I did is would mix parmesan cheese in a bag with various foods I ate, dump it in the toilet, splash my forehead with very hot water, and then get my father and it would suffice. Other times I'd take a lighter I found and a thermometer and get it up to about °102 and time it so it looked like I just took it out of my mouth.

I feel you Tyler, that creamy milky sweet medicine is the bomb. When I had scarlet fever I had to drink that shit for an entire month and it was glorious. I remember the taste to this very day. Absolutely delicious. They even gave a syringe I had to drink it out of because they assumed my 8 year old ass wasn’t gonna drink it, boy were they wrong cause I looked forward to every dose every 12 hours.
