I knew him, too, Cissy. I was 14 when I last saw him. He lived around the corner from me with a local girl, in Windsor, called Linda Lawrence. She ended up raising one of Brian’s children with Donovan, in Eire. Linda’s younger brother was a pal of mine called Stuart. Of course, I did not know him well but I did meet him on one or two occasions. I last saw him waving at me in a phone box on St Leonard’s Road in Windsor. He was living at 98 St Leonard’s Road, Windsor, Berkshire, which was almost directly opposite where he was using the telephone box. I looked at him and he just waved back asi turned into Queen’s Road as I lived at no 53 back then and was walking home. I never saw him again but on the very few occasions when I was fortunate enough to meet him, he was very warm and cordial. He seemed like a very genuine young man, to me and I will always remember him as that. I certainly see him as nothing less that one of the most important contributors to the 1960s cultural revolution in Britain, which was to lead the world. He was a magnificent talent that is still underestimated but even The Beatles held him in the very highest esteem, as did Hendrix, Morrison and Dylan amongst others, and rightly so. Brian Jones is the skeleton in The Rolling Stones cupboard and he always will be. I still maintain that their treatment of him was absolutely appalling and still is. Not one of his children ever received a dime from The Stones to this very day, a fact which turns my stomach. One of them had to purchase a ticket to go and see the band his father created as they wouldn’t even let him into their stadium gig without paying for it. Sure, Brian was dealing with a few issues when he was almost certainly either murdered, which is the most likely scenario, of killed by accident. Tom Keylock, a bodyguard and chauffeur working for Alan Klein, claimed he witnessed Frank Thorogood directly confess having killed Brian on his deathbed but as the police have stated, that, “Evidence,” if you can call it that, benefits one man only, by getting him off the hook from further speculation and that man was Tom Keylock who may very well have been ver much implicated in Brian being actually murdered. We will never know now but there is a mountain of evidence that does indeed point to the likelihood of foul play.

@@Cissy2cute There was a documentary on tv a couple of nights ago about his life, made for some sad viewing.

It was Oldham who wanted Jagger as the leader, with Keith as his sidekick. There was no longer any place for Brian. I have tons of photos on my PC and one in particular shows Jagger and Oldham bearing down on Brian in a recording studio. Not a friendly pic.

ElleSee: Brian was the first Rocker to die at 27 so you could say he founded the 27 Club as well as the Rolling Stones.

Exactly 2 years later another 27 club member died the legend Jim Morrison on July3rd 1971

Was Ian Stewart a full member of the band? He played piano at most of their concerts and on their albums. He played at the s***show that was Altamont.

@Geoff Poole Ian was a member before Jagger, Richards etc. have a look their history. Loog Oldham got rid of him as he didn't fit in having a square chin.

Plenty of people remember Stu. He was an integral part of the band.

Yep, most of my family are buried there, a very tranquil place, at 69 i guess i'll be there within a few years or so.

In my opinion the Stones made their best singles when Brian was in the band, along with two of their best albums, Beggars Banquet and Let it Bleed (fun fact: Delia Smith made the cake that's on the album cover). Exile On Main Street is my personal favourite album. Keith Richard's comments about Brian in Life were unfair in my view, partly because Brian is no longer around to challenge them. The dead can't sue and it looks like Keith Richard too full advantage of that. Reading Life gives the impression that Brian had a walk on part in the band's development when the opposite is the case. I doubt Keith Richard was an exemplary colleague when he was a heroin addict; he should take a look at himself.

@@geoffpoole483 I think my favourite album is Beggars Banquet. However, they made so many great tracks in the 1960s, many of them not on UK release albums, that for me their greatness is spread over the catalogue rather than examplified by one specific album.

I am very disappointed how the stones have pretty much ignored Brian and discredited him over the decades due to personal problems and Keith basically stealing Brian’s girlfriend which led to his downward spiral and I believe was murdered 3 weeks after leaving the group. Think about Syd Barrett, Pink Floyd have done nothing but say good things about him, but only Bill Wyman ever said positive stuff about Brian, it’s a great shame. I think some of it is guilt on Keith and Mick’s part.
