I think the whole thing was a communication issue...and cultural differences. Yuna and David both have respect and love for each other, from what I gathered from their past interviews..
Hmmm… I think this says a lot about the Yuna and her mom’s interpersonal communication skills…South Korea is also very westernized so I don’t know if I would chalk this up as merely cultural differences…
It wasn’t because of Yuna’s mum!! It’s a long story. So basically Yuna and Brian contract was coming to an end after the 2010 Olympics. Yuna at the time was seriously considering about retiring since she had achieved everything that she wanted to in figure skating and found no more motivation to skate. Brian knew this, which is why he betrayed her. So after the 2010 Olympics, the Japanese federation had contacted Brian if he would coach Mao Asada if Yuna were to retire. (Brian admitted that they did, there’s proof of the email that he sent to Yuna). Obviously it caused some friction, but since he declined Yuna still wanted Brian to coach her. She arrived in Toronto on 31st of June but when she arrived things were different. A few weeks earlier, Brian had renewed his contract with IMG and through this accepted an offer to coach young junior Japanese skaters. In Brian’s mind it was either, coaching a Korean skater not a a lot of years left or strengthing his connection with the Japanese (meaning more skaters). Brian chose the second option, and Yuna no longer become a priority. All of the coaches at the Toronto Cricket Club didn’t care about Yuna, most of the time Yuna would train alone. (Adam Rippon confirmed this in an interview)! The ONLY person who cared for Yuna was David Wilson, her mum even said that Yuna had learnt SO much more from David than she did from Brian. To add to the problem, people from the Japanese federation and reporters & media were therefore coming in and out off the Toronto Cricket Club. Yuna and her team didn’t feel comfortable as they felt like they were being watched on by the Japanese. Brian priotized coaching the Japanese junior skaters than barely spent with Yuna. It’s not a coincidence that Yuzuru Hanyu ended up being coached by Brian. So there was bad friction between Yuna and Brian, and ultimately Yuna decided that she didn’t want Brian to coach her. They held a meeting with Yuna’s team, Brian and Tracy to let them know that they were longer her coach and she leave. Brian however made it seem like he was fired without any notice which is completely bullshit. Brian had released the statement when it was 6am in Korea and a day before the All that skate LA ticketing day. So Brian was a complete dick for doing that, and also he released details of Yuna’s 2011 program music to a Canadian interview press without Yuna’s consent (once he was no longer her coach). He even used his boyfriends ID to post bad things about Yuna on t skating forum. So in a way, Brian was so much more bitter and resentful and lashed out at 19 year old girl. He was so much worse than Eteri was when Evgenia left her.
@@xct3214 wow....i cant imagine Brian will be like that, I had found few things that very confusing in what Brian had said before, now i got the answer. Thank u so much for the explanantion.
@@xct3214 But some things you wrote aren't verified. 1.) There is no evidence the Japanese Skating Federation asked Orser to coach Mao Asada. He has said in interviews (which can be found on the internet, which I recently read) that he heard that specific rumor floating around, but it wasn't true. He was never asked to coach Mao. So he immediately contacted her to let her know his priority and focus was her. Can you give your sources that verifies JSF asked Orser to coach Mao? 2.) Also, when Adam Rippon mentioned Yuna "skating alone", he was talking about how before she came to Cricket, that she hadn't skated with anyone really before, no sharing of rink time/ space. But there at Cricket, he and Yuna got to skate together. He was not referring to her "being left alone" and no one caring about her, as you wrote. 3.) If he spent time with junior Japanese skaters, it seems Yuna and her mom, especially, made some assumptions that he was doing this to be rude to them. People who are not Korean don't know or understand the tension between the 2 countries that originated from the colonial period. To assume Orser knew, then to mudsling at him accusations (Yuna and her mom) was really unfair. ----I really think it was all miscommunication due to language and cultural differences. Brian said he and Tracy Wilson (coach) had a meeting with Yuna's team and at the end, he still had to ask if they were ending it, because it was not clear to him. When they said "yes", he and Tracy believed they (Yuna) had just ended their coaching contract. Tracy Wilson is witness to the meeting. He said they both looked at each other and asked "What just happened?" So if Tracy Wilson ALSO thought Yuna's team had just ended their coaching contract, then her translating team did not do their job well. So for them to act surprised when he officially came out with a statement that he was no longer coaching Yuna is ridiculous. -- He explains why he had to make public that they went separate way quickly. He did it in fairness to the other skaters who had competitions coming up. He didn't want the news to out during that time and take the focus off of them, creating gossip, etc. -
@@xct3214 I agree with bpxl53yews. 1) It's not just Brian who clarified that he never got an offer to coach Mao Asada. Mao Asada herself confirmed in an interview that her team never approached Orser for a coaching offer. 2) Yes, Yuzuru Hanyu going to Orser wasn't a coincidence not because of the intervention of the Japanese Skating Federation but because Yuzuru himself approached the Cricket Club. He made it very clear in several interviews how he ended up in Toronto. He went there particularly because he wants to learn the same technique taught to Javier Fernandez because he liked Javi's 4S the most. By that time, Yuzu and his team were already in the Senior International Circuit. Even without the help of the JSF, Yuzu could easily get in touch with the Cricket Club. In fact, Yuzu's choice to train in Toronto has been one of the reasons the JSF were displeased with him as he chose to train abroad. During Mao's time with Arutyunyan, she experienced the same disdain from the JSF simply because she trained abroad. 3) Japanese media were nowhere near the Cricket club at that time. After the 2010 Olympics, the JSF doesn't have any superstar skater training at the club. Keep in mind that at this period, It was Daisuke Takahashi and Mao Asada who were Japan's top skaters. They had no business going to the club because their top skaters and up-and-coming skaters weren't training in Toronto. 4) Brian was so much more respectful towards Yuna than Eteri was to Zhenya. Eteri slammed Zhenya on national television and the poor girl never had the chance to protect herself from such mudslinging. From this interview, Brian didn't blame Yuna, her mom, or her team. He merely concluded it as being the decision of an adult to which decision Yuna had every right to make. 5)Brian using his partner's account to shame Yuna on her decision to leave is an unverified rumor just like everything you have noted. Sure the timing of the release of his statement wasn't the best but it didn't affect the show in terms of sales and performances. And to be honest, the news of their split wasn't as controversial as the rumors flying around on whether or not she's retiring because Yuna openly said she wants to take a break. The only thing I can agree with you is the fact that it wasn't because of Yuna's mom. Yuna always seemed timid to the public but she was no pushover. One thing that was confirmed is that the final say with the decision to leave was with Yuna. Of course it went through so much discussion with her team including her mom but it was a decision she made for herself and no one is blaming her for it. Not her mom, not her fans, not Brian or the cricket club, no one. Sure the split came as a shock back then but it was something that people accepted and moved on. I hope we can put this issue to rest because all the people directly involved are in happier places. Let's all wish them well.
I think B under estimated Yuna's camp about how much it offended them to have Mao's offer even be considered.... it is just such a shame because they did create magic and Yuna definitely soared under his tutelage. I just fell in love with figure skating watching Yuna's work with him and David Wilson.
He's not coaching Mao. He's coaching Yuzuru Hanyu. Yuzuru went to him himself to get better at his quads for the next Olympic. Are you guys saying that even a 18-year old can't learn from him since he's Yuna Kim's coach? That's outrageous.
Jaeden Norris he made her just as much as she made him. He was an experienced and well accomplished figure skater who passed on his own knowledge to Yuna and helped to give her professional feedback on her skills, and in turn, she gave him a name as a coach as she displayed her talent and honed the skills she’d learned from him. There’s really no measuring who benefitted more from each other, and there’s no reason to. Yuna Kim has proved herself time and time again to be phenomenally gifted and skilled skater, just as Brian Orser has proved himself to be a talented and proficient coach (if the skaters under his teaching are of any indication).
This is just sad news. We'll never truly know the real story, and what truly transpired between Brian and Yuna. I just hope that even though now that they've split, their relationship has not become hateful or anything. They were such a great team up until now. *sigh* It's life though, things happen and big changes could occur anytime. Good luck to them both.
I think that's a very harsh and groundless thing to say. And she didn't exactly say that. She said things weren't always smooth sailing between the two. He was her coach for 4 years for christ sake and was a factor in getting her to where she is. You can't do that with someone you have to "tolerate". That's a gross misquotation. We don't know what exactly happened. What's clear is that something happened after the Olympics that caused the split.
David Wilson spoke to the Korean media about Orser's revealing Yuna's new long program music to AFP. Wilson said Orser did not discuss his plan to reveal the music choice with Wilson and the news completely shocked him.
Yea. I mean he's knows the business because of his experience, surely he would know it isn't right to spill Yuna's program back then. I suspect it's all about money 💸
If I had my way, pretty much every comment on this video would be taken down and nobody would be allowed to have a name like "StopToTellALieB." The insults Yu-na Kim's fans are slinging at Brian Orser are offensive and ridiculous. I highly suspect this is all just because he treats Koreans and Japanese equally as skaters, and some people just can't handle it.
In summary, 1. Yuna was thinking about retiring, she didn't want to hold on to anybody for her unsure future. Ahe was hesitating wheter to keep on skating or not becuase Olympic gold medalist was her final destination. 2. It was clear that Mao's agency reached Orser offering him a spot as a coach, but Orser did not really defend himself well.
Hm... I don't know how to react to this. I love both Brian and Yuna but none of them are clear about the whole story behind it!!! Very confusing!!! I hate to see them this way. :-(
lol I remembered this, it was all I think miscommunication. She being gold medalist with a performance that probably could never match she wanted to take sometime to really sit down and think if she wanted to do this over again another 4 years. But for B his skater just performed the greatest program ever for female skater, he was available so to speak. Ofcourse Mao’s group sent an offer, he never denied that. What he denies is “accepting” said offer. In Korea this thing exploded, the betrayal etc. haha in all actuality he was waiting on what Yuna wanted to do. Like he said other skaters were lined up waiting he needs to make a living haha. What he should have done was squash those rumors out right and be like I’m Yuna’s coach only period, and will remain by her side until she decides what she wants. He even was surprised Yuna had a “voice” meaning a lot of her daily life is controlled by others like her mom etc. probably influenced her into thinking Brian was leaving her. Sad really they both ended up moving on Yuna didn’t have that spark she had before and next 4 years was a shell of her Olympic performance, retired after the Sochi Games (those games were BS, complete disgrace) but I think Yuna was relieved and ready to move on from skating.
@@celsdd6906a better example would be the medals she won after brian. yuna continued to win even after the split so that should be a bigger testament to her ability without orser
I saw Yuna in the 2011 Worlds. Leaving Brian was a big mistake. It was not the missed jump, but the whole routine lacked the flair and beauty that Brian and his team brought to Yuna to enhance her talent. She will always be a great skater, but I think she was so much better with Brian!
It was because it was a very difficult year for yuna. she was exhausted from personal and Orser. she didn't say it was because of him. she said just couldn't focus on the game.
Hope that Yuna and Mr.Brian would eventually set aside all of the unhappy memory that could be a affected by some stresful and overload period of time. There was a lot of meaningful things that they had! They are both great. So hope that they would all feel happy for the wonderful thing!
Maybe in Orser's mind, he's just a coach so he should be allowed to coach whomever he wants to coach. I don't know if it was real about Mao's group contacting him, but if I were him and my student dropped me right after winning OGM, I would feel confused and would want an explanation. I suppose that the reason why he felt the need to go onto the media was becuz he wasn't getting answers from Yuna's camp. I think that All that skate didn't handle the problem right so it escalated things.
But it's true that he shouldn't have gone onto the media and used it this way to get answers. Revealing Yuna's programs was definitely back-stabbing her and it's such a pity that he did not consider (or maybe didn't care) about the cultural part.
@@olivialau88 But when the "cultural part" is harboring resentment towards another country, that's discrimination and deserves to be ridiculed and ignored.
Idk exactly, but back in the day Russian coaches would coach the same rivaling students. I don’t think it’s very kosher, but it is what was done. Japanese have made other Asians hate them for a long time due to Japan invading and taking over so many others.
After 4 years of training Yuna and being her mentor, with more than enough spotlight just on himself - interviews, conversation, and (probably) general interest -, wouldn't anyone think Orser was more likely to have been well aware of the "passive agressive battle between Koreans and Japanese"? Regardless of how trivial the matter seems to someone who may not be emotionally invested in the situation, remaining ignorant of its existence doesn't seem very plausible is what I mean. It's pretty hard to stay ignorant of the situation for someone coaching a Korean international-superstar :)
Yeah sure, like what classless Japanese/Korean would straight up reveal to Orser and tell him about the JPN/KOR tensions? I'm sure you wouldn't have. If you're not Asian and living in a Western country, chances are you have no idea about it. Ask any white guy right now who has worked in Samsung or Toshiba or some other international corporation with Koreans and Japanese - they have no idea. Judging by your name, you're either Korean or Japanese, and you probably subconsciously dwell in this tension everyday. At least my Korean friends do. Everything about Japan - they make fun of it. Very immature. It greatly annoys me, but if I wasn't Asian I wouldn't understand. My Japanese friends don't do that, they act with more class. By the way, Yuna didn't really become a superstar until a year leading up to Vancouver.
I'm sorry but you and I aren't on the same page to have a productive discussion. You're making a classic redherring argument, that is: my ethnic background can be detached from my comment. I was pointing out that someone coaching a Korean superstar would probably be aware of the "tension" if the main competitor were Japanese. Whether the superstar came into spotlight a year or just six months ago; the Olympics being an international event, this is a type of issue that is going to be raised by journalists interviewing athletes and their coaches. FYI they've been competing against each other for some time before the Olympics. And, yes, I am aware of this fact probably because I'm Korean. But I would be anyways if I had some knowledge of current events, or just listened to the commentators during the Olympics or World Cup. The fact that there are some people who aren't and that they live in the West quite doesn't qualify the claim that it's perfectly normal to be unaware. Lastly, I'm not sure the fact that your (Korean) friends lack class is a relevant issue here. You're basing your opinion solely on the grounds that your friends make annoying comments. But, again, I mean Kim Yuna and her former coach, Orser are the main subjects here. Rest of the Korean or Japanese people or their complaints shouldn't play a direct role in this argument given its small scope :)
@@missngbrownie pretty weak. “White guys” as old as Orser have had plenty time to understand some knowledge of tensions of Japan between the other East Asian nations. I’m not saying it’s right but there are Chinese in their 80s and 90s today who still abhor Japan due to their wars and occupation . Acting like their aggressiveness is without reason actually shows you to be the one with immaturity.
Mao won a medal without coach more so without her former coach rafael way back 2007 worlds. Mao loves the ice. Win or lose, she’s happy. Mao doesn’t even him to be her coach. Why are you hating on her.
history repeating itself and now Medvedeva moved to Orser. I just want to know why yuna split with him and why Evgenia split with ETERI!!!!! SO MANY UNANSWERED QUESTIONS. but Brian is great i respect him so much
She left Eteri because she backloaded programs and made medyevna skate them. She ended up with a fractured foot. Most of Eteri's skaters end up injured. Julia, sherbakova, medyevna, and zagitova. All injured.
she left eteri because Eteri put much more effort for Zagitova in Olympic, after she's injured. She knew Eteri going to dump her anyway, since she seen so many talented junior with more difficult technique. She realize she need to try another training method because she's adult now, and her coaches no longer put her as priority anymore. She learn from Lipsnitkaya and didn't want to be like her, so she left to Orser that she considered as one of the best coach. Hoping for next Olympic.
I think Orser felt that way because Yuna could have fired him face to face but no she let her mom do all the work. Then calling Orser liar after. Like girl you already fired the dude why invest energy. I dont really see anything wrong if Orser did coach Mao.
What you said about Yuna is completely unfair for her because you're only believing Brian's side of the story. First of all, Yuna's mother was not the one who fired him. Yuna held a meeting with Brian & Co that she wanted to leave. He did lie by making it seems like Yuna's mother was the issue. She had every rights to defend herself and her mom because Brian wasn't professional enough to handle the matter and communicate his misunderstandings to Yuna. Yuna was already uncomfortable with Brian even before she won the Olympics, therefore the issue was not because of Mao. So as much as there was misunderstanding, Brian was also wrong to publicize their private matter and crossed the line by revealing her program. He said he didn't want their split to distract his other students, but he took the time to do a cute mini interview and give bad publicity to his former student. He's just as awful as Eteri Tutberidze when Evgenia left her.
A coach going on Tv and bashing his former skater and her mom is just unheard of. It's unprofessional. It is very common to witness good and bad break ups between many skaters and their coach. No one knows exactly what REALLY happened except for Brian and Yuna. I would not think less of him or Yuna for their split up, However, he should be ashamed of himself for talking about it on Tv. He might of done it to improve his image, but It makes him look immature and unprofessional. If he wanted to talk about it, then Yuna should of been there to be fair. I can't criticize anyone unless I hear both sides. Obviously Yuna is bigger person for not publically humiliating her former coach.
I am sincerely surprised that Mao, who is not involved in this Canada-Korea issue, is involved. First of all, Mao has been saying that she is looking for a Japanese coach for months before this problem occurred. At this point, it is clear that Mao has no eye on Orser at all. This problem between Canada and Korea was reported in Japan because Mao's name was also there. Mao's team immediately denied it. Mao's manager told the Japan Times, "We are very surprising. We never contacted him and never thought about it. The story is groundless. I don't know why such a story came out in Korea," he replied, denying that Orser will be his coach in the future. Mao said in an interview in Korea, "I was also surprised when I saw the news. I don't know why such a story came out," she said. And even if Orser is chosen as coach, Mao and Orser will not get along because Mao has a strong 3A obsession, unlike Kim who was not obsessed with 3A and followed Orser. A Google search for "真央、ソチ金メダルへ...タラソワ総監督+新日本人コーチ" and you will find a Japanese article about the Vancouver Olympics. Please translate and read. Mao's team would never do anything to provoke Korea. Mao and Japan have nothing to do with this fiasco.
Kim actually reached out to Brian Orser because she wanted to learn 3A from him. But because of her back injury, she wasn't able to train it at all and gave it up. According to an email Brian sent Yuna, he said that Mao asked him to be her coach but after Mao's team clarified the claim, it seems like Brian Orser really lied to Yuna. No wonder she left him.
It's too bad because it seems like it was all a language / communication mishap. Because Yuna's team had an English translator, and Brian did not have a Korean translator, he relied on what they told him and Tracy Wilson. He says they thought after the meeting with her team that he was being fired and that Tracy thought that too. So I would have to fault the translator (on Yuna's team). But it looks like that wasn't true because her team got angry he made a public statement that he was no longer coaching Yuna. (He had to since his other students had competitions coming up.)
Seriously what does it have to do with Mao? Brian you have disppointed Yuna and her mother' s trust, so please don't make matter worse by mentioning Mao. If Mao wants to be so called "nearer" to Yuna she should have hired David Wilson, but she never did. Mao is just trying to improve and be happy on ice. Why can't you leave her alone, Brian? And Yuna is the one who makes you successful as a coach, is that what you do to her? This jerk is just trying to cash in Yuna's fame. I believe he had the aspiration in skating initially, but after Yuna becomes so successful in those few years he began to change.
There must have been some kind of a terrible misunderstanding for her to make such a horrible open accusation on twitter. Once words come out of your mouth you, that's it. The damage is done.
@yorishiku2525 Whether or not Yuna could have gotten a gold medal with another coach is a moot point, the fact of the matter is that Brian was her coach and the person she trusted to coach her to her gold medal. Yes she was doing well before Brian, but she also said herself that Brian helped her overcome her shyness and to project more confidence on ice. The drama is sad for both Brian and Yuna.
it seems to me base on comments by both of them that Yuna is more hurt by what happen between them than Brian is. so that may indicate him doing something behind her back or without her approval. technically he worked for her and not the other way around. if they want to keep the real reason for the split from the public, people should respect their wishes. time to move on.
Orser totally skirted the question regarding the Japanese and the interviewer is completely biased. This interview makes Kim's decision seem very prudent.
When the interviewer asks Brian about Yuna's tweet, he doesn't answer the question at all. Instead, he evades the question and says something totally unrelated. The interviewer should have told Brian what Judge Judy would say, "That's not my question!!"
but both were choreographed by Brian Wilson. Yuna won by landslide in 13 WC without Orser. It's Yuna who brought Orser his fame, because at the time he was a nobody as a coach and became somebody thanks to Yuna.
Dooly King I can partly agree with you, that Yu Na helped him to become a famous coach, but why did Yu Na choose him if he was nobody? When she came to him she was not Olympic champion as well, right? so I think Brian put lots of work on Yu Na so she became Yu Na,queen of ice.And Yu Na was not only one awesome skater, he had some other brilliant skaters as well.
No, he didn't have brilliant skaters at all at the time. He was giving group classes but never had experiences as a coach. Yuna was his very first student. He ought to be be grateful and consider himself lucky that Yuna was his first student. Yuna would make any coaches, even Tarasova, shine with her talents. It was actually David Wilson her team wanted her to work with...as David is known for his talent and also making students enjoying themselves with his animated personality. Her former coach at the time requested David "Make Yuna a happy skater." And that's how she came to Crickets Rink and saw Orser who was working there giving group lessons when he was not participating in ice shows. So she figured he, an Olympic medalist, would be perfect choice for a coach to work with. Yuna still would've been Gold had she hired Frank Carroll, Nicks or even Tarasova as a coach at the time. It was Orser who happened to be around. Btw the system of Cricket from what I know was there were specialists in each areas of fs. E.g. David in choreography, Orser in jump techs, Tracey Wilson in steps, etc and so on...so it wasn't only Orser who "created" Yuna. There were several people in her Team that had made Yuna what she's became today. Orser actually used to make some mistakes as she was constantly injured due to wrongly programmed skatings (e.g. 2007, 2008..etc) Her mother and the team almost let him go before the Olympics but decided to stay since major changes might've affected Yuna. Anyway, the main point is that Orser was not the one who created Yuna. Sure, he was a technically secured jump coach but the people Yuna and her Mother were so grateful were David and her physical therapist and her former Korean coach.
Dooly KingYuzuru Hanyu is his second olympic Champion, and he is extremely talented skater and he stick with Brian and seems does not have any problems with him. May be Yu Na should have stayed in Korea with her Korean coach?
Mango Bay for you to compare Hanyu and Yuna's situation is just too ludicrous. you ought to know why Yuna broke up with Orsor. He chose $$$ over Loyalty, and wanted Yuna and both MAO to work together. He ought to know there're some things that's too sensitive in cultures. Hanyu and Javier can work together in friendly rivalry, but he wanting Yuna and Mao to work together is going way too far, offending Korea. He needed to learn about history and the sensitive cultural aspects within the two countries. Anyway, actually, her former coach at the time wanted her to have an international-level coach who could make her grow. Korean coaches are strong in technical-wise, imo, but, as you know Korea is not a figure skating dominating country. they don't have decent figure skating rink to train, thus why Yuna easily would adept to any sorts of ice rinks in various countries where some ice rinks would be poor. Like I said, Orser happened to be at Crickets when Yuna's former coach wanted her to work with David. Again, it was not Orsor, but DAVID, whom Team Yuna wanted to work with first and Orser happened to be at the ice rink and asked to be a coach. He became what he is today due to Yuna's massive talent. Again, he was no perfect coach making mistakes and errors as he had no experiences being a coach. Yuna was his very first student. He cultivated his craft of being a coach with experiences and became what he is today. Hanyu grew under his wings and also with Tracey Wilson, too. They all are part of the Cricket system, from what I know of. If Orser was an extremely talented coach, then ALL or at least MAJORITY of his students should have been champions, but only Yuna and Hanyu, and maybe Javier. There are many of his students being just mediocre skaters. That should tell you he's overrated and the glory goes to the talented Yuna and Hanyu, as they both were technically secured and talented skaters when coming to work with Orser.
Hanyu didn't train with him since the pandemic. He was focused on the 4A so he was with his jumping coach for the most part. Brian and Tracy's video about his retirement kind of insinuate they're fine tho
Brian, I'm afraid that you ruined your own reputation for life. This is something people wouldn't forget that easy for years. I hope you find the way of integrity and make up with Yuna for your own peace sake. Don't sell your soul to devil. There is a right path in life.
I dont think the coaching change was the issue but maybe the reason and way in which it was ended. I commend Kim for even coming back another year to train and compete. I wish them both the best.
I think there was some kind of miscommunication between him and Yuna, I don't think Brian had a reason to lie because he was still new to elite coaching at the time, there was nothing to gain by throwing the newly crowned Olympic champion that HE coached under the bus. Even though Yuna was still considering her options, she also had no reason to lie about Brian, and she seems like a genuine person. Maybe it's because of the translator, maybe it's because of the Korean-Japanese conflict, we'll never know. I hope one day they'll be able to communicate and really understand each other's side of the story
i have a feeling there was not only the mao rumour (if she did actually do that it was very low. but she was going through her 'be like yuna' phase then), but he wanted another gold medal and to push her towards the next olympics but she was thinking of giving up because of her injuries and also because she was over it- she'd achieved her ultimate goal at just 19 with nothing left to work towards, never got to be a normal teenager and when she competed even half decently she'd win by huge margins. there were no challenges left. her lack of motivation was so clear in her performance at 2010 worlds. they made each other. he was an inexperienced minor player in coaching until he got an incredibly talented world junior champion and grand prix champion on his books. i don't think he could believe his luck at the caliber of skater he had. and she gained a lot of maturity from training in canada. and you could see in the kiss and cry they had a great relationship. but he's the employee and she's the employer and if she wants to dismiss him she can.
I have to somewhat partially agree with you. But Yuna was quite sick with cold in 2010 WC(she had an interview some weeks after the Vancouver Games and at the time she sounded pretty ill with cold) and the last thing she wanted to go was the WC, but she went out of obligation. Mao and Japan had everything to do with their breakup. Brian chose Money over Loyalty. Yes, parting with the coach happens all the time in the fs world, but the way Brian and Yuna had to depart was pretty sad. They could have departed by wishing each other the best. As of this moment, it's the former designer for Yuna who's currently working for Mao and Japan. That should give you some idea what had happened. From what I know, the designer cannot work for Yuna at all. This has to do with Brian, too, as Brian has ties with the designer. The Jap. were secretly videotaping Yuna during the practice in Canada, and you don't want anything of sort to be around you when you're trying to work/train hard for your craft. Nobody does. There were these kinds of uncomfortable happenings thus why Yuna decided to leave such environment. Orser as Coach should have protected her or come up with a constructive plan to work in such situations, but I guess he did not. He chose Money. I don't care to know the details, but I got the puzzles fit enough to know what had happened. It does not matter any more, since Yuna has retired and don't need the designer or B as a coach. But still sad that it had to end so ugly like that. It should have been like with Brian Wilson, how their drama had ended in a fairy tale-like happy ending.
Based on this Korean blogger(the link-deleted by youtube), Brian Orser had allowed Japanese Juniors to his training team, all of whom being part of IMG group, financed by Japanese sponsors mostly. Yuna's team felt her next moves and training were watched and felt encroached. This anchor and Orser focus more of Yuna's Mother, reviewing her as if she was in the wrong of this departure, but it was Yuna's decision to leave Orser for not controlling his stance fairly and doing the media prematurely.
ALL I CAN SAY IS... I WOULD LOVE TO SEE BRIAN ORSER COACH MAO ASADA... IT WOULD BE DEFINITELY AN EXCELLENT RESULT... Yuna and Asada are the best rivals of the competition... I see them eagerly compete for the first place...
you know there was no way Yuna or any non-Russian would have won Gold in Sochi. on the other hand, Yuna won Gold in 13 WC by LANDSLIDE, and that was without Brian Orser. Hanyu won Gold in Sochi because Plushenko withdrew. If Plush didn't withdraw, surely he would have won Gold even he just practically stood there on the ice.
Dooly King Plushenko withdrew because he knew he wasn't going to be anywhere near ready to take on Yuzuru Hanyu after witnessing his amazing performance in the team event. Poor Maxim Kovtun, though.
Mady Ramlan But Hanyu didn't give Gold performance at all, even he apologized for it. Plush still had a better chance to win the Gold even if he practically stood there on the ice throughout the program.
Well, the Olympics isn't always about glory, but it is also about survival. Hanyu was the best of the night and he won. Are you implying that politics would have ensured victory for Plushenko if he were to compete?
Did he say Tracy Wilson, 1988 Olympic Bronze Medalist and Figure Skating Commentator, coached (or worked with) Yuna? I had heard NOTHING about that in the past if so.
Oh, and for the record, before anyone accuses me of it, I'm not Japanese, and I'm not even of Japanese heritage. I simply think it's terrible for this great champion and human being to be treated like Satan incarnate and have homophobic slurs and worse thrown at him, just because of a misunderstanding that still isn't entirely clear, but which I suspect has much to do with ethnic hatreds that have nothing to do with figure skating.
I feel bad for Brian, though he had his golds and Yuna only went down from departing this relationship. She lost that spark in Sochi. . . then quit the sport. She was the queen in 2010, and the way she treated her coach left a little black mark on her "perfection". . . too bad, but Orser has nothing to be ashamed about!
what? after their split yuna continued to either win or have never finished off the podium. yuna like many athletes suffered chronic injuries which led to her retirement plus she has already won every single thing their is to win. how much more did she have to prove before she was allowed to retire? she’s still an ambassador for the sport and the reason the olympics were held in pyeongchang.
Orser why you are not saying about you got the scout suggestion from Asada Mao and you gave Yuna lots of pressure with IMG which is sponsoring Asada Mao... You hurt Yuna's heart too much... While you were coaching Yuna, you were coaching Japanese figure skaters and many Japanese skater staffs were looking at only Yuna.. Too many stories behind...
Whatever it is, this guy is a coach. Kim Yuna is the skater. Obviously, there's no way the skater mistreated her own coach who's importany to her success. Clearly, the coach did something wrong.
Sad that the relationship ended this way...But the sad part of this is the fact that he ended up revealing coaching aspects to give the insight to others. Who would be her competition...And then she quickly retired in '14...So so sad it took a little of over 3-4 years before her whole career ended...She was and will always be a true talent!!! ok I will admit I put Kwan way ahead of her league even if she broke records btw..lol
Oser was lucky that Yuna came to ask to coach. He had a chance to show how great he could have been all the way to the end instead back stabbing Yuna...poor guy with not enough intelligence.
Yuna has stated that her working relationship with Brian Orser was fraught with difficulties and has always been "awkwards" and "uncomfortable" from the beginning. Her terminating the relationship was just the culmination and obvious conclusion to an unsatisfactory, burdenous and ambivalent collaboration with someone she only tolerated, but didn't necessarily like, enjoy or feel close to.
I dont care what you people say he is my 2nd cousin I do not take to kindly to you people.:( Even though I never seen him my dad says he is his cousin.:)
Well Yuna's team should at least explain their reasons to Brian as to why they want to split in the first place before the media caught up and everything escalated. And not making an assumptions based on rumors about Mao Asada. As far as I know Yuzuru Hanyu and Javier Fernandez are the longest athletes under his coaching, and in additions there are also Jason Brown and Cha Junhwan. So I don't get it why people discredit and treat him so badly about the whole Yuna's affairs.
Subject: rumours Date: Sun, 25 Apr 2010 20:46:04 -0400 Hi Yuna, hope you are well and getting some rest. i am sure you have heard some of the rumours that have been going around about Mao. I just want you to know that I am loyal to you and am always here for you. Her agency did inquire about me ( and team ) working with her, I told them that you are my first priority. I have to say that I was flattered she has an interest, but your skating comes first.
David Wilson spoke to the Korean media about Orser's revealing Yuna's new long program music to AFP. Wilson said Orser did not discuss his plan to reveal the music choice with Wilson and the news completely shocked him.
it’s also interesting to note that this entire split controversy happened on the day yuna’s ice show in the U.S. ticket went on sale, when borser expressed discontent via IMG New York
And Orser did NOT want to make written contracts with Yuna from the first place. It was made verbally. That was very unusual and he can’t complain about his contract because it was made exactly how he wanted. And he had blank career as a coach. I still don’t know why Yuna got him at the first place . www.koreaherald.com/view.php?ud=20100826000873
yes dear. She won silver in 2011 world championship, gold in NRW trophy 2012, gold in 2013 world championship, gold in 2014 golden spin of Zagreb, gold in 2014 Olympics :)
@Niteangel100 maybe it's b/c B.O. still wants the attention that a star gets and he's not used to being treated like a coach - an employee - and not a star.
Yuna was already had super technicality, and much she needed was the artistry which have come from her choreographer. "In August 25, 2010, Orser caused controversy by revealing Kim's 2010-2011 competitive program information to the press without Kim and her choreographer's consent." This tells you what kind of person Oser is...Such a pitiful person with not much of integrity.
It’s funny he plays victim. Yuna got gold medal and he knew she wouldn’t work for next Olympic. Then he got offers from young shiny juniors. Of course he would want to get them with more$$$$$ rather than staying with Yuna. When Yuna was in Canada for training Orser didn’t have time for Yuna. So Yuna trained with David and no coach. That explains a lot.
I think Brian is a kind of person that never hide private things, it must be his character, sometimes i found he likes to say something to express his mind without thinking.
yuna was always on the podium even before hiring him as a coach. we can't say he led her to becoming an olympic champion. she was always great. hanyu as well. he as a great skater even before meeting him. he was just lucky to coach two olympic champions. to those who don't know the truth, the truth was revealed that he betrayed and abandoned Yuna twice to go to japan who is willing to pay him more. Yuna never even made any excuses even when she was being criticized bc she was scared it would make him a bad person when he made up lies to protect himself. be an adult. she was only 19 when this happened. be ashamed Orser. don't lie to yourself.
yunyu lol she has so many coach though. I think the problem is her team not Brian. Brian didnt even coach Mao. But again if ever he coach Mao who really cares. He is just coaching them. The best skater who skated clean will win at the end.
@@Amb3r1981 And what's the deal about having many coaches? Mao also had tons of coaches in her career. Also their split was not because of Mao, Yuna was already uncomfortable with Brian even before Olympics, so before Mao's team reached out to him. Brian showed his true personality by publicizing their private matter and revealed her program. But Yuna's team is the problem? That's bullshit.
as a white guy i can't believe you would say something so racist and ignorant. Innocent people have been killed by lots of different types of people. Columbine, Oklahoma City bombing, etc. race has nothing to do with it. Please be respectful and do not make inappropriate remarks like that. Thank you
Possibly the skater her management company was referring to that was getting more time from Orser was Hanyu. Yuna probably felt she didn't need a coach that season since she wasn't doing the GP circuit, just the World Championships, she only needed choreographers. No point paying hourly rates for a coach when he doesn't take the training sessions himself, he was paying more attention to the boys. The only people working with her were the choreographic teams. But in the end even though she was a member of the club Orser wasn't going to let her use the ice there if she wasn't paying him. So he made a fuss about it to make her leave.
Yuna split with Orser in 2010. Yuzuru joined Team Orser in mid-2012. Fans were actually surprised that Yuzuru switched coaches (from Nanami Abe to BOrser) in 2012 after bagging the bronze medal in WC so there is little probability that Yuzu was the cause of Yuna transferring. There is little to no chance that Yuzu was contacting Brian to be his coach in 2010. Orser not handling training sessions himself and focusing more on the boys when Yuna is his prized pupil (and the only high-profiled one at that time) are baseless assumptions. The only other student Orser had that had a name-recall from Yuna's time under Orser back then was Adam Rippon from what I remember, and I don't think anyone would accuse Orser of focusing more on him than Yuna. Javier entered the team in mid-2011 and Yuzu joined in April 2012. Also, David Wilson isn'ta choreographer exclusive to Orser's team. She doesn't need to be skating in the ice rink in Canada to be choreographed by him. Orser didn't make her leave, Yuna chose to part with him, which is well within her right.
Why believe in a falsehood and silly rumors about the reason for the break up of Yu Na and Brian Orser? Mao Asada clearly has nothing to do with that and unfortunately this rumor is already spreading faster than a Michelle and Clay marriage. Orser is NOT interested in coaching Mao Asada since he doesn't know her at all. He knew Yu Na Kim clearly from the ground up and for his lingering faith in her. Who is Yu Na Kim to trust? John Nicks?
Brisingam Well Yuna got robbed and yes medal is just a piece of gold in our hearts she has 2 gold too but thats not the point shes a LEGEND and she will always be idk why u compare
Yuna has NEVER been off the podium. She was the first figure skater to achieve a Super Slam, at age 19- compare that to Hanyu’s at age 25. Does that make her better than Hanyu? No. Both are GOAT’s of their respective divisions. You know NOTHING about what truly went on behind the scenes regarding Yuna and Borser’s situation. Don’t act like a smartass.
Besides, every authentic figure skating fan knows what took place in Sochi 2014- corruption. Where is Sotnikova now? Busy handling her nail salon business? Give me a break. Sochi was the first and last competition she ever won, unjustifiably so. Don’t make me laugh
. Yuna was the lucky ones because without it she would not have won the gold. Orsen was a great skater and a coach is recognized in your country and the world, the need to Juna not because he has other skaters who want him to train them, Javier Fernandez is one of them. She is the one that has lost.
Sanaa Chisley Isn't it? After he coached her to a gold medal, she dumps him like a capricious, arrogant little snip. What did he supposedly do to her that was so terrible? The reason she never gave a reason was because she never had one.
@@GwaiHaida She never gave any reason because she didn't want to embarrass Brian. Brian is a liar and got caught lying even in this interview because he later revealed that Mao's team reached out to him. You would rather believe him who had been caught lying than believing Yuna's story?
the Japanese team took Yuna's coach, choreographer, and outfit designer i think that was the reason they split, the Japanese team offered more money and B wondered if Yuna's side would offer to pay him more to match that
