IN PART 3 WE PREP THE SLAB STEP BY STEP INCLUDING HARDCORE , COMPACTION , SAND BLINDING, LOWER DPM , INSULATION AND TOP DPM . WE THEN GET THE CONCRETE BARROWED IN AND USE A LONG LENGTH OF STRAIGHT 4X2 TO TAMP IT LEVEL.
WE THEN USE A BIG BEN FLOATING TROWEL TO PUT THE FINAL FINISH ON IT ......ENJOY

Once*, two brickies were offsite on business when a late readimix lorry came to a house shell waiting for a floor. After negotiating with a strong, and happy-but-thick labourer, the devious lorry driver fired the whole lot down the narrow hallway, using the words "i'll give it a good wetting, it'll run full well, like a river, don't you worry...see you next time." Five long minutes later, Mick and me were amused by the sight of Darren paddling furiously with his shovel, still waiting for the stuff to turn into a river! We jumped in and helped him but we lost a lot of Friday evening waiting for a trowel-able surface to appear...I mean - you want some fines to rise up, just not most of them! *once - happening only one time........... Never, ever again! ;-D

Great job again boys.....we put Dpm down just before concrete so it doesn't fill up night before if it rains.....I'm guessing that's what happened looking at all the water on top mate. To be honest though probs did you favour made it nice and wet which is easier to tamp off 👍 look forward to rest of the build the brickwork was looking top notch.

It's really interesting that your concrete slab is on top of a thick layer of styrofoam. Intuitively, it seems like it would need some kind of rebar to prevent it cracking. (Just a guy who knows nothing about concrete, lol.)

How did you know how deep you needed to dig? And what consistency is the concrete base? What materials
@SteveAndAlexBuild

spenceational86 we needed to dig down to allow for a 100 mm slab + 125 mm insulation + 100 mm of hardcore , so 325 mm below DPC . The concrete was a barrow mix firm who mix it on the wagon so there is no waste at the end . Thanks for watching and commenting again pal 👍🏼

I prefer to work the concrete from one end to the other, whether it's front to back or side to side, rather than throw it all in and starting pushing it around with a rake. A lot easier to level and much cleaner job. No mesh reinforcing? Also let's hope there's no screed going on that slab, it won't key to that troweled finish.
