Surprising him with that and having him pay for two dresses is kind of rude. Plus it didn’t seem to me like she was genuine in saying she would pay for it. It sounded a lot like she was guilting him into agreeing to two dresses. If someone is paying for the dress either respect the budget or pay the difference. I would never go over budget if my mom paid for the dress. But if the dress was slightly over, I would pay the difference no questions asked.

In the Asian culture, we wear 3-4 different dresses, but they are no where as expensive as this. My former friend spent only $900 on her white wedding dress, $200 for her reception dress, $150 for her Chinese dress and $500 for her Vietnamese dress. She got all of her outfits for a good price and they were all nice. You can get nice dresses for cheap.
