Things I liked about the production; The diversity...the UK has always been a diverse nation (they came with the Romans and there was a sizeable black population in Tudor England, that arrived in the entourage of Katherine of Aragon and Philip of Spain. Note of interest...Elizabeth 1st was petitioned to expel black sailors from England because white men were annoyed that they were marrying and having children with white women. The music....whomever made the decision to use classical renditions of modern music in the series was a genius. The diversity...for those complaining about the use of black actors in the series. Please note that it wasn't unusual for WestIndian "planters" in the 18th Century, to send their offsprings to the UK to be educated. The Diversity.....hopefully the series will raise questions about diversity in films. After all if white actors can play characters from the old testament and Ancient Egypt ...... The costumes... The dancing... The opportunity for black actors to be recognised on the world stage.

Agreed What Penelope did was horrible she didn't have to blast Marina in public like she did and destroy her family and sisters reputation. She reminds me of the the entitled "nice guy" that assumes that if they like a someone they are entitled to that person. Ignoring the fact that the person doesn't feel the same. Then trying to sabotage that person's relationship with other people. That's what Penelope did With Colin and Marina. Marina wasn't in the right but Penelope was clearly in the Wrong.
Things I didn't like about the production; The hypocrisy of the men (although I accept that it reflected 18th Century attitudes). The idiocy of the women (there were educated women around in the Regency Period). The costumes.... why are the men wearing trousers and not breaches? And why were the men wearing boots to a ball? The posture of Eloise and Marina. Their governesses would have forced them to stand/sit up straight.
If he had been truthful Daphne wouldn't have had to force him down, she was just proving a point which she only came about to know because of discussion with her Maid Rose
I enjoyed the concept of the show BUT the treatment of Marina made me so mad. I hate Penelope. I still want to like Daphne and Simon. The rape scene is so much worse in the book. So the change was needed but still a problem.
@Zsuzsanna Varga me desperate? U are the one commenting on my comment trying to defend this show so much. I actually like the show but I can be critical of the things I don't like. They do dark skinned black people wrong in most shows and movies. Keep this in mind as u go through your future and you will notice it
