I forget the point I'm heading towards in a story sometimes too. And I'm 30 years younger than this man. I'm fine with waiting 'til he gets it back. His stories are better than mine.

My stepfather was also a 3 war veteran. 6 of those years in war zones (1 year in the Philippines in WWII, 2 fighting in Korea, 3 tours in Nam). Like Bg Gen Bartlett, 36 years of active service. Retired a Colonel (Army) because when when they offered him a star if he did a 4th tour he walked away. My blood father was also career Army (2 war veteran, Korea, 2 tours in Nam). Like Gen Bartlett, he was mostly logistics, never got a combat command, unlike my stepfather who had stories that would curl your hair. One night, I said something stupid about "desk jockeys" that never actually fought (referring to my blood father). My stepfather all but backhanded me off my chair. "Who the hell do you think fed us, armed us, got us in and out of where we had to be, from arranging for the helicoptors that saved my ass being shipped in down to furnishing a damn shower and clean underwear!!! We couldn't have fought ANY of those wars without your dad (and people like Gen Bartlett)" Today I have nothing but the utmost respect for BG Bartlett (and BOTH my fathers) for everything they did.

In 1966 I landed in Chu Lai when it was a Marine airfield . The runway was marson matting and rolled up in front of our Skyraider ( EA1F NAVY VAW-13 ) The very next time we landed at Chu Lai it was a 10,000 ft concrete runway LOL

I worked with a gentleman who was a chemist at American Builtright (sp). He was a bird colonel Marine pilot in the South Pacific and has since passed on. To the remembrance of Col Kenny Dobbins.

I want to have a beer with this man....I would be laughing too much to drink the beer though!

Hey my name is Kenneth W. Bartlett and I am a Vietnam vet and retired US Army Inf Captain with twenty years, maybe we are related, although I seriously doubt it. :-) .

Regarding the WW2 service, that is some impressive story there, I haven't heard many interviews with PBJ vets. The Palawan raid: Awesome for the ship's crew to have a reuniion with the people they rescued. Go Navy! Tough job in Australia :)

Whoever disliked this, feel free to continue sucking down that sweet free air your breathing but remember men like this one are the reason your sucking down free air at all. Sad, some people just dont get it though , Much of the problems we have today are these same 27 assholes who disliked this causing the problem. Much love and respect to all men and women who served and serve currently.

I can't imagine walking around in Tokyo right after the war. These heros stories are very important every one should listen. The government should take care of these men and women and their families for the rest of their lives for what they've done and what they've been through

Wow, what a great guy. I would have loved to have worked under this man. My kind of boss. it's amazing how far he went doing 3 wars. The runway portable mat system I think is still used today. I totally respect him. Also interesting is did not talk about his combat at first and had to be prodide a bit.

I spend hours listening to these stories. It is fascinating trying to understand better those that did what that did because their country asked it of them.

Flew off the runway at Twentynine Palms quite a few times------off his Marston Mat. It worked but was a bit bumpy.

One of my Great Uncles went in to the Army in 1941 as a Private and was Commissioned by General MacArthur in Australia and spent the next 4 years in Mongolia telling the Army Air Corps what the weather was going to be over Japan and had to be briefed by General MacArthur on the first Atom bomb he ended up staying in untill 1975 as a Lt. Col. and I joined the Air Force in 1978 at the tender age of 17 and was a Security Police Sargent doing Nuclear Weapons Security in Strategic Air Command in Missile Security , then Germany in USAFE F-4Gs then B-52G's in Texas at Abeline !

The Aussies and the first European Americans were Brits. Moreover, Aus was in WW2 British. 1,000,000 Aussies were not sent to Britain. We are brothers to this day.

Can u open bye thanking them for there service with respect and also for there sacrifice...I feel like they would open up more too you and the interview could only get better OK these guys look at you like a kid who will never understand whose asking personal questions. In the intro they give there name OK 👍 and that's when you say first of all I'd like too thank you for your service and sacrifice 🙏 it means alot too me . Then move into questions.

What gets me is other countries persist on 'trying' this one; they never learn that people like this are the fabric of this nation. Most of their thinking is based on jealousy in some form shape or fashion.

Maybe that's what happened in Vietnam.....too many MA$TER'$ DEGREE'$ ?.....Thank You Soldier.
