I like the fact that curry is a very broad term in food. In SG, these mainly chinese, malay and indian curry. And all of them is very different. Of cos we also have curry from different country as well like japan curry and british-indian curry. And i like all of them becos of the different taste and smell of the spices as well as the hotness of it. Some is creamy and some is salty so there’s definitely a choice for everyone.

Singaporean Indian . Not really Indian a lot of the dishes. Rojak never seen it in India .
@josur8181
@josur8181 5 лет назад
I think Singapore is mostly populated by Tamilians, so the food and curries are mostly inspired from southern India and I feel Singaporeans are at severe injustice because India actually is so multi-ethnic that the dishes do not do enough justice. There are a few restaurants though specializing in North Indian dishes like Khansama but misses a lot on specialties from other Indian states.
@yuma420
@yuma420 5 лет назад
@@josur8181 Most Indian food in Singapore is inspired by Malaysian Indian cuisine. Very different what you find in the south of India in cities like Chennai, Hyderbad and Banglore. North Indian food in Singapore is abysmal.
@josur8181
@josur8181 5 лет назад
@@yuma420 Umm.. not sure about that because when I was there and especially when I tasted the Indian food at Little India, it had a strong resemblance to Indian cuisine than Malay. Perhaps there are some dishes that are inspired by Malaysian cuisine but mostly of the ones I tried at Little India tasted mostly what is available in India. But my main point was Singapore Indian cuisine uses the word Indian and is rather Tamilian (aka South Indian for me) but misses out on a lot of cuisines from other parts of India which is a bit disappointing.
@yuma420
@yuma420 5 лет назад
@@josur8181 I'm not talking about Malay food. I'm talking about the Indians that have been living in Malaysia for a century and how their version of SE Indian cuisine differs from what is found in India. Most Singaporean Indian food is a mix of India and what the Indians in Malaysia eat.
@josur8181
@josur8181 5 лет назад
@@yuma420 We are both talking in the same context but with a slight difference of opinion. The food that I tasted in India and in Singapore (Indian food) - tasted all the same for me but to be honest I didn't try everything off the menu so I may be missing the different Indian cuisine evolved in Singapore. Do not disagree with your views but what I mean is not everything is different from what I tasted ( i didnt taste everything of the menu though ;)) while in Singapore and felt was the same as that found in Southern India. Probably from my own experience I assume its safe to say that 'some' of the Indian cuisine found in Singapore is unique whereas its predominantly inspired by Southern Indian cuisine.

Wasnt the story of merlion meant to represent SG as a lion city and how SG used to be a fishing country before any famous guy come over. Therefore representing SG as a lion and not fogetting our root as a fishing country. And therefore merlion. At least tats what whoever taught me told me.
