The defendant didn't state his case right. He should have said the plaintiff lied to the cops about him just bringing out the gun for no reason... that it was all self defense, because the plaintiff attacked him first. Had the plaintiff told the truth, the defendant wouldn't have wasted so much time and resources in jail.

This is why it's important for people to know how to articulate, and defend themselves. The judge totally would have awarded the defendant money, if he knew how to articulate his case. Literally all he had to say was " He stabbed me, then called the police on me and said I attacked him. He was the aggressor. I was found not guilty by reason of self defense." At the very least he should have sued for medical bills and pain/suffering.
